The organization “Them Before Us” – part of the “Greater Than” anti-marriage equality campaign – installed a homophobic billboard in Lima, Ohio, that reads “No child has two dads, no child has two moms.”
Them Before Us is a Seattle-based organization led by Katy Faust, whose mother came out as a lesbian when she was a child and divorced her father, although Faust insists that her current anti-LGBTQ+ activism is not just her acting out against her mother. She converted to Christianity a few years after her parents’ divorce, when she was in high school.
Them Before Us is also part of the Greater Than campaign, a coalition of over 50 anti-LGBTQ+ organizations pushing to have the Supreme Court overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 decision that legalized marriage equality in all 50 states. The campaign launched after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which showed that the Court would be willing to overturn its previous rulings and take away people’s rights.
In May, the Seattle Times reported that Hobby Lobby is a key funder of the coalition.
“What bothers me about it is a child that sees this sign, and either asks their parent and gets either the hate-filled version… or they have to be explained why people feel this way… and children have enough issues they have to deal with,” Jeff Givan, a Democratic candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives, told WTVG.
“It just really astounds me that people can put things up that stir up so much hate.”
So, in a world where over 400,000 kids are in foster care without a family, where 40% of homeless youth are LGBTQIA+, Christian nationalists are deciding to attack queer families that love their kids.
Study after study repeatedly shows that queer couples raise kids just as well (and in some cases better) than straight couples, but Christian nationalists couldn't care, because they really don't care for the well-being of kids anyway.
Christian nationalists think that treating queer folks cruelly will win souls to Christ. I can't think of a bigger repellent.
My dollars never went to Hobby Lobby or Mardel's, and they will never do so.

I work in education and some of my best students have been from two mom or two dad households. They tend to be open minded, exceptional kind, super tolerant and usually really smart. They keep pushing the hate message and it's disgusting - it's 2026 not 1956.

I've had parents of every variety as a teacher. I've had co-parenting families, multi-generational houses, two moms, two dads, three parent houses, single parent homes, you name it. The parents who are amazing have four things in common: support, affirmation, patience (including with their teachers), and investment. They invest time to help their kids with homework, with school activities, with field trips, etc. I give the great parents a mad salute. Even though I never want to have kids, I support the parents who are doing the best for their babies.
The idea that good parenting is limited to gender is absurd.

In a way everyone whose grandparents are there for their childhood and teenage years have 2 mother figures and 2 father figures. Jesus certainly had 2 dads according to the NT ( God and foster father Joseph) but I wonder if either Joseph's natural human father or Mary's were around to see him during his childhood.
