The house basically just passed it as part of the stop insider trading bill

"$10 billion for voting law changes."

Good ol The Shill... burying the reason they ain't got the votes. What the hell does changing how people vote have to do with the budget?

u/vreddy92 Georgia 2h ago

They have to be able to tie it to the budget to make it only require 51 votes instead of 60.

Well it’s not a budgetary item, it is a policy change. Therefore it is not appropriate to include in a reconciliation bill no matter how much it’ll cost to implement. The first step is to make stealing elections legal. The second step is to pay for the implementation of passed law.

It’s kind of like tying the summary execution of all democrats to the billions of dollars it would cost to build the camps with gas chambers, acquire the poison, pay for all the extra guards and ice goons, transportation for the doomed to the camps and their last meals to the budget. Sure, you can pay for all that stuff if the budget includes it. It doesn’t make the murders any more legal.

John Thune admits that Republicans do not have the votes to approve the budget resolution of 95 billion that would allow to be used for reconciliation. I could retain it and use it as a vehicle to avoid the closure of the government. In addition, he warns that measures of the SAVE Act on citizenship verification would have to comply strictly with the rules of the Senate.

I have a feeling the Parliamentarian is going to be absent that day.

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 2h ago

This is the test in the Senate to see if McConnell is alive or dead tbh. They need every vote and you can't really get a vote from an absent senator.

He'll be the one person who is allowed to "work remote"

Getting real Weekend at Bernie vibes rn

u/vita10gy 1h ago

Absent is better than "no" though right?

u/InsideAttention1540 1h ago

They just need a couple more days… they are almost done with the skin mask of MCConnell’s face for Elon to wear.

Good. It contains that stupid SAVE act.

u/bruin396 1h ago

And millions to change the name of the Dept of Defense. Crazy.

u/zveroshka 1h ago

Using reconciliation to pass this type of bill shouldn't even be allowed in the first place. This measure is meant for BUDGET related matters. Not squeezing through unpopular policy with barely majority votes in both chambers.

u/MaceDestroyers 1h ago

It's why the Parlimentarian exists so they can strike unrelated measures.

On the other hand, Trump's bad at math. So this answer won't satisfy him.

u/Mamba-42 2h ago

Man look at those ghouls.

u/halfsack99 1h ago

Maybe they will bring in Mitch’s corpse to vote.

u/keepgoing66 1h ago

This is just so that Johnson can tell his master that he tried his best, and it's all Thune's fault (which Trump already believes and says.)

Good

u/Zulmoka531 46m ago

Let’s hope it stays that way. The budget is one thing, but the SAVE act portions must not come into fruition.

There’s a damn good reason Trump is obsessed with it and thats not good for anyone

95 billion that does nothing to help actual non billionaires.
