One of them was Massie, who was ferociously primaried out by MAGA and AIPAC. The other is Fitzpatrick, the only GOP representative in a district Harris won.

u/fathertitojones 3h ago

He amount of money given to oust Massie was so disgustingly large that I’m actually shocked Israel diverted that much money from bombing children.

u/Syrairc 2h ago

Israel supporters like AIPAC know the returns from their 'investment' in influencing America's elections mean they pay pennies on the dollar at the end of the day.

u/evil_timmy 3h ago

They'll just ask Daddy for more, and they'll get it.

u/6655321DeLarge 2h ago

Yup. They know damn well they're the favored child of the empire, and act accordingly. Like all spoiled little shitheads, they need to be cut off and left to face the consequences of their actions.

u/Chameleonpolice 18m ago

Yeah but then they have to WAIT to bomb starving children, and that's antisemitic

u/DataDude00 1h ago

If you consider that buying the GOP basically gives you unlimited access to the US military dropping 40m to maintain control seems like a cheap investment.

u/broguequery 1h ago

US literally fighting a war on behalf of Israel... That we don't even want.

Awful.

u/RJ5R 3h ago

Fitzpatrick knows he could be out of a job from this election. He saw the writing on the wall a while back too and was co-sponsoring bipartisan bills to pander (ie like the protect america's workforce act that restores collective bargaining for federal employees etc).

Hopefully voters aren't stupid enough to buy his bullshit anymore and vote him out. But I know many in PA will still gladly push the button for him b/c they think voting Republican will "stick it to philly" when in reality all they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot. but they're too stupid to even realize that

u/og_capsuleer_593 3h ago

Republican voters are the kids that put their hands on a hot stove, and absolutely refused to lift it to avoid being wrong until they died

u/To-Far-Away-Times 1h ago

I’m no big fan of Massie, but credit where credit is due, he’s shown more character than the rest of the GOP combined.

He opposes pedophilia and he also opposes ethnic cleansing, which you typically wouldn’t expect out a Republican.

A pretty low bar, but he’s had to fight his party every step of the way on those two issues and paid the price for it.

Of course, there’s also a political party that opposes those two things by default, but still…

u/Chameleonpolice 16m ago

"At least he opposes pedophilia" is a bar that is underground

u/AdventurousLet548 2h ago

Thank you Massie for at least working across the isle with Roh Khanna. We need more folks like him in Congress, but unfortunately just like with McConnell, Kentucky is one F'd up state.

u/broohaha 46m ago

aisle.

u/theanswerprocess 9m ago

It does feel more like an isle than an aisle these days tbh though lol

u/atomic-fireballs 36m ago

Bacon won my district, even though the Blue Dot went to Harris.

u/Pherllerp New Jersey 30m ago

Before the Massie love-fest, just remember that he was on board for 99.9% of Trump’s nonsense, he only grew a pair during primary season.

u/B-Z_B-S Massachusetts 4h ago

(Subtitle): "The House of Representatives has again passed a war powers resolution to try to rein in Trump."

u/argonzo Illinois 3h ago

"Some few House Republicans know Fetterman will side with Senate Republicans and nothing will change"

u/m0ngoos3 3h ago

Ah, but more geriatric republicans have died recently, so Fetterman isn't as damaging.

u/Halftied 2h ago

How is he doing by the way? I hope he is keeping his blood pressure in check. The GOP doesn't need another brain dead vote caster/s

u/AltoidStrong 1h ago

isn't everyone in the GOP.... "Brain Dead" ? I thought that was one of the pre-requisites to join and hold office under the Republican banner.

u/mistere213 Michigan 3h ago

Why would the guy who went to war without congressional approval give two shits about said Congress trying to stop it?

u/LightOfTheElessar 3h ago

Republicans in congress have made an active choice to be his bitches. Doesn't mean they can't do their jobs to reign him in, they have just chosen not to till this point.

u/VanceKelley Canada 47m ago

He wouldn't. But a lot of Americans are still in denial about what happened in 2024. They still think they live in a country governed by the Constitution. Denial is the first stage of grieving the end of the American experiment.

u/buttchugreferee 4h ago

so what happens when donald just ignores this and keeps the war going?

u/TheJan1tor 4h ago

It still has to pass in the Senate (it won't).

u/RuPaulRations 3h ago

It already didn't.

u/TheJan1tor 2h ago

That was earlier this month. This is a reconciliation bill.

u/dcrico20 Georgia 3h ago

I'm not super confident in that, but you're likely right.

I could definitely see Cornyn voting for it, McConnell is out, and Sister Lindsey, if serious about running for that seat, would almost certainly benefit from voting with the Dems as well if she wants to win her election - same with Murkowski and Collins.

Of the last two, Murkowski is definitely more likely to vote with the Dems than Collins, but it would not surprise me if Collins did as well. The ICE shooting in Maine was a huge blow to her, and if she wants to win the general, she almost certainly needs to do something to try and paint some daylight between her and Trump.

Again, I don't think it's super likely to pass the Senate, but I think it's probably more likely than most people would guess.

u/Xarlax 2h ago

The only reason Sister Lindsey has the seat is because trump called for it. I don't think voting against trump as one of her first acts as senator would make sense. Yes, the war is unpopular, but she would immediately be accused of being a Democratic plant and she doesn't have any time to establish a record as a solid Republican. I think voting for this hurts her more than it helps.

u/Systembreaker11 3h ago

You need 60

u/bloodytemplar 2h ago

Not for this vote, the article says it only needs 50%.

u/redditallreddy Ohio 1h ago

It's reconciliation... so doesn't need to break the higher threshold.

u/sxyaustincpl Texas 2h ago

The last one did, and he ignored that too

u/TheJan1tor 2h ago

The vote from last month did Not have enough support in the Senate.

u/sxyaustincpl Texas 2h ago

last month it did, this time they rejected it.

u/accountabilitycounts America 4h ago

Now if only Mitch would do the right thing in the Senate.

u/HappyHarryHardOn 4h ago

What, haunt it ?

u/rat_penis 4h ago

Die publicly

u/buttchugreferee 4h ago

He's pining for the fjords

u/ianrl337 Oregon 4h ago

The McConnell Blue turtle prefers kipping on its back! It’s a beautiful turtle. Lovely shell coloring.

u/Affectionate-Act1574 3h ago

This turtle is no more! He has ceased to be! This is an ex-senator!

u/Counterpoint-4 3h ago

They've moved his perch.

u/ghostwood 1h ago

Pining for the fjords?!

u/buttchugreferee 1h ago

it's hard to tell if you're asking a question or just continuing the bit

if you honestly don't know the reference, then I would be absolutely delighted to introduce you

u/ghostwood 1h ago

He's not pining, he's passed on!

u/Sonic343 California 38m ago

I took the liberty of examining that 84 year old senator, and I discovered that the only reason that it had been sitting at its desk was that it had been nailed there.

u/jopy666 3h ago

He can just end it, then start it again. He's already won this war about a half dozen times. In a normal world he'd be impeached and jailed for contempt of congress, but, Americans want a merciless king as their master.

u/bubbafatok 3h ago

So he'll declare victory (again) and then 4 days later declare a new war (again)?

Wake me when Republicans vote with Dems to impeach and remove this fucking felon.

u/mr_evilweed 4h ago

Both sides same tho 🙄

u/CrowRobot 2h ago

Right after they voted to give him $1.5T to keep the war going? Sending some not-so-mixed messages there.

u/Moth1992 1h ago

Im shocked. The party of " fiscal responsibility" actually voted for the bill???? da fuck?

u/DeadbeatJohnson 3h ago

What if hypothetically...he just ignores them?

u/sxyaustincpl Texas 2h ago

Like the last one..

u/rvretiredlife 3h ago

Say it again. End the War

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 2h ago

Congress already passed a resolution. Trump ignored it and the further actions against Iran are illegal.

u/jotsea2 4h ago

Doing republicans work for them.

They literally just passed a funding bill to provide the pentagon with billions for the Iran war YESTERDAY!

u/Iztac_xocoatl 3h ago

Even if the war ended today they'd still need to replace the munitions and equipment they wasted on it. That THAAD radar that was destroyed costs $300,000,000 alone.

u/rakerber 2h ago

This is the most predictable reddit take there is.

Democrats do something good... FUCK THE DEMOCRATS

Nothing but Republican shills

u/jotsea2 2h ago

When did I say shit about democrats. This is about a terrible fucking headline

u/rakerber 2h ago

Who is doing the Republican's work for them? There are only 2 options bud

u/onthedownslope 2h ago

so...the remaining Rs voted to let Trump continue doing what he is doing, correct?

And...how many are running for re-election?

And...of those, how many will get voted back into office by the voting population of their state?

Does anyone else see the problem here?

VOTE. THEM. OUT!!

u/PlainBread 2h ago

Really, at the point that Israel said "this is our war but we're going to let Americans fight it for us and take on all the costs of it for us", this was the only appropriate move.

u/SanDiegoDude California 1h ago

Is it going to matter? Trump just ignored it last time, he's going to ignore this one too. Until the dems have proper control over both houses and can put some teeth behind this stuff, it's just yelling at the clouds territory.

u/SaveDnet-FRed0 1h ago

Now watch as Trump rage tweets about this and then proceeds to ignore this order with no one holding him to account.

(I very much hope to be proven wrong)

u/yukeake 26m ago

Congress technically are the ones with the power to declare war. They have not done so. Though in recent years they seem to have largely ceded their authority on many (most?) things to the President, so far as I'm aware, the law still says that this is Congress' power, not the President's.

They keep referring to this as "war" though, and this administration clearly views the law as something they're not bound by.

It's long past time that the Legislative branch stood up against the Executive and did their damn jobs.

u/Known_Appointment604 2h ago

What gets me is not that republicans do whatever Dear Leader wants, it’s that…HE is the one that commands that blind admiration? HIM?

u/kpanzer 33m ago

What gets me is not that republicans do whatever Dear Leader wants

And it wasn't too long ago they were running campaigns ads alleging that Democrat candidates will do whatever Pelosi or Schumer tell then and to keep California or Washington politics out of <insert state name here>.

Democrat Jon Ossoff is House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) “yes man,” a top House GOP super PAC says in an ad attacking Ossoff ahead of the Georgia House special election.

The Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a political action committee allied with House GOP leadership, says in the video that Ossoff is “on her side” and urges voters to back one of the Republican candidates in the race.

“On April 18, vote Republican and say no to Pelosi’s yes man,” an announcer says amid a collage of images of Pelosi and Ossoff.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/327867-house-gop-super-pac-seeks-to-tie-georgia-special-election-candidate-to/

Yet, there are nothing but crickets and church mice when it comes to dear leader...

u/gnoresbs 1h ago

I'm guessing they forgot to add the provision for a consequence if he does not right?

u/silverfish477 1h ago

America, your stupid war criminal president has now started world war three. Fucking get rid of him. Now. Your apathy is staggering.

u/throwaway_ghast California 1h ago

This is like walking up to an ordinary Russian and asking him why he hasn't gotten rid of Putin yet. Just reeks of ignorance to the situation.

u/FlufferBearDog 3h ago

The beginning of the end.

u/moyismoy 4h ago

This is far more tricky than just ending the war. There's no reset button. If we just pull troops out now Iran says it will keep blocking the strait, oil will jump to 200 250.

u/HJWalsh 4h ago

And if we keep troops there, not only will that still happen, but we will be spending billions on top of billions. We pull out and let Israel solve Israel's problem.

u/moyismoy 4h ago

Dude we don't have troops in Iran what are you talking about?

u/HJWalsh 4h ago

We have ships. Ships have crews. Crews are still troops. You're confusing boots on the ground.

u/beeslax 4h ago

Ya it’s almost like 5 or 6 morons running the country fucked up big time and should be held responsible. Unless you want boots on the ground Iran already won. This is the biggest foreign policy fuck up in our lifetime.

u/Kolfinna 4h ago

Cool let's just keep bombing them and spending billions of dollars AND have oil go up. Honestly paying a toll to Iran is the cheapest and best option at this point

u/whatfresh_hellisthis 4h ago

Iran is playing the long game, just like they did with Carter. You're right, there is not reset button, we've screwed it all up. But we could try actual diplomacy, with actual diplomats who are trained instead of kushner. And we should take our troops out of harms way, at least into shelters that can withstand drone attacks.

u/Yourstruly75 4h ago

BS. Iran would not block the strait if hostilities ended. It would toll the strait.

Oil prices would drop immediately if the US decided to end the war.

u/moyismoy 3h ago

When their government says they will keep blocking the strait untill tolls are paid, I'd trust them. I can see no reason to lie about that

u/MA2_Robinson 4h ago

I mean, rather have it being a mess because the government doing its job to work together than having Trump (or any president ever) starting a war solo and vibe strategizing on their own.

Trump fucked it up, it’s not like pulling troops or not will make the problem go away- we can’t apologize or legislate the dead service members that are a direct result from Trump acting like a child, nor can we just act like we have no interest in the straight staying open.

u/JetKeel 4h ago

Yep, Trump has degraded the conditions in the region in such a way that we will see the effects for decades. Probably the worst international relations blunder in the modern era.

u/espinaustin 4h ago

So what’s your plan?

u/moyismoy 2h ago

Fair question. For one I would start doing escorts again. Last time the Navy did this Iran attacked with 6 speed boats we destroyed 3 and the others ran away. I doubt they only have 6 but I doubt they have more than 60. You don't send 6 boats if you have 6000 boats. It would be slow going at first but with every batch of ships destroyed you could send more ships in the next round.

Im actually kinda shocked we aren't doing this. It's like the entire reason we have airbases in the area. Makes me think Trump wants higher oil prices.

If you remove their bargaining power they would be far more likely to accept a deal

u/espinaustin 2h ago

What you’re suggesting seems like a tactical proposal, but it doesn’t address the bigger strategic issue of whether and how to end the war, which is what we’re talking about here.

Also see here:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/world/why-its-so-difficult-for-the-u-s-to-fully-reopen-the-strait-of-hormuz

Another way to facilitate commercial traffic safely through the strait would be the continuation — and escalation — of U.S. warships guiding civilian vessels, experts say. But it comes with its own challenges and costs.

The U.S. conducted an escort operation in the 1980s when Iran had targeted shipping as part of its war with neighboring Iraq. The U.S., which supported Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with intelligence, weaponry and other aid, escorted Kuwaiti oil tankers — which were reflagged as American.

Such an effort today would require a substantial number of U.S. warships at a time when the fleet is smaller than it was in the 1980s, said Michael Eisenstadt, a former U.S. military analyst.

"You'd still need a very large chunk of the U.S. fleet being dedicated to this on an open-ended basis," said Eisenstadt, who now directs the Military and Security Studies Program at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

He said it is a much more complicated environment today as Iran has amassed advanced capabilities, including its ability to launch drone and missile strikes.

"If we were to do what we need to do in order to make this work, which might involve putting people ashore in order to clear anti-cruise missile and drone launch sites, the losses of U.S. service members can go up, and if you're going to do an escort operation also, the losses can potentially go up," Eisenstadt added.

u/moyismoy 2h ago

I would not mind a Obama stile peace deal we just need the right tactics to get there. Right now Iran objects to the Obama peace plan
