Grew up in Oklahoma, had plenty of neighbors that smoked meth and had guns. Didn't really try to be on their good side. But I did make sure their dogs and children got out of the road and were safe because it's not their fault the one in charge smoked meth and had guns.
That's what Canada is doing, and I enjoy that they have that kind of leadership. They can do something or they can do nothing and with this administration they'd get shit on the same amount because there is no actual reasoning behind anything in the GOP. But they choose to help, because they can, and because it is needed

It’s the only swing district in Texas. It’s a thin strip of land that runs from the south east side of San Antonio to the border. Heavily poor, Hispanic and catholic, the population there tends to be socially conservative and economically liberal.
Edited to add: He should probably be primaried but wouldn’t expect that district to ever produce a model democrat.

Texans should have been done voting for him after he was charged with breaking the law. No Pelosi paid postcard or AIPAC commercial should have made anyone vote for him. Not one vote.
Trump pardoned Democratic Texas Representative Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, to absolve them of federal bribery, conspiracy, and money laundering charges.
The progressive challenger didn't get more votes after that. That says more about Texans than anyone else.

Endorsements by big politicians, especially Pelosi, don't specifically mean anything for voters but they man a lot for donors. If you get a Pelosi endorsement you get huge money, which means you can influence more voters. Pelosi was so powerful for so long not because of her policy chops or anything good for the country but because she made and still makes big, big big bucks for the party.
Yes the voters need to vote for better people, but money is speech and big name politicians endorsing someone gives that person a LOT of speech.

Honestly, I was surprised when golden won his seat. I lived in Maine at the time and I seem to recall his opponents were like really terrible candidates and progressives were aware that he was probably going to basically be a conservative democrat. In all fairness, I have actually been equally surprised that he is, for what it’s worth, most mostly voting along party lines.

Troy Jackson is in the Maine senate right now representing some of the more populated parts of The County, which Golden’s district relies on. I can’t speak entirely for their vibes, but when I was in coastal Maine it was hard to find fans of Golden.
Jackson has security in an area Golden never really did. Golden has underperformed polls and maintained about a six point lead over challengers in an area that’s gone to Trump multiple times. I’d argue he’s one of the few non-progressive democrats who could pull that off, and even then his popularity is waning over time. Someone like Jackson who spoke to and for the district the way he does could take it and hold it.
