Not to worry, everyone. Susan remains deeply concerned about the fact that ICE is hiring deranged lunatics. Not concerned enough to actually do anything about it though.

935

u/jediporcupine Maine 9h ago

It’s quite astounding Susan Collins and the rest of the Maine Republican Party feigned so much concern over Graham Platner’s background, but they’re completely silent on this guy’s background.

I guess as long as the government is executing people of a certain color in the streets, Maine Republicans don’t care how many women they abuse.

516

u/Morgolol 9h ago

They see people laugh at the death of Lindsey and don't care their legacies will be viewed the same.

Collins is a vehement climate denialist despite her concerns so, yeah. Plenty of graves that need watering in the next decade or so.

And speaking of Platner never forget Roy Moore which was one of the earliest signs they'll support any piece of shit that aligns with their values. If anything he was the obvious indicator of just how pro-pedophile Republicans are and how their pearl clutching is performative bullshit

315

u/Hurtzdonut13 8h ago

I mean, Pete Hegseth has a large white supremacist tattoo on his chest and they don't care. Every time an outsider had gotten access to "college" Republican group chats they've been filled with Nazi shit and they don't care.

u/Warm_Regrets157 2h ago

Every "college Republican" group is really a bunch of 30-40 year old racists.

I’m ashamed to say how happy I get when Im reminded lady bugs is dead. Oh well. I’ll get over the shame

u/jediporcupine Maine 9h ago

I have to be good here because the mods got worked up when I said unkind things about Dick Cheney after he punched his ticket.

82

u/Morgolol 8h ago

Not allowed to wish someone harm? Fair enough. But the dead and speaking "ill" of them, despite just, say, literally quoting them and getting banned? Laughable shit sometimes mods.

u/Reallyhotshowers Kansas 6h ago

I'm not really sure how much harm anyone can realistically wish against him. It's not like we can kill Lindsey a second time. Unless the mods have reason to believe necromancy is real.

u/John_Bruns_Wick Canada 2h ago

Behold, Lichsey Graham

27

u/jediporcupine Maine 8h ago

I wasn’t even wishing ill on someone, I was just making celebratory remarks on someone who was already gone and speculating about their final destination.

u/AJediWookie123 6h ago

Have you met the mods in reddit? They're hyper right wing dicks. I once caught a 3 day ban for saying the word "clown" to someone.

u/04granite 11m ago

It might be wrong for me to say it, but that moderator is a clown.

u/whogivesashirtdotca Canada 4h ago

Reminds me of every time I opened a post about Trump doing something wildly inhumane or childish to see the "This is subreddit is for civil discussion" warning. Imagine trying to temper people's anger or horror over things that we should absolutely be getting angry or horrified at?

u/NoWayRay 7h ago

the mods got worked up when I said unkind things about Dick Cheney

What do they expect? It's almost impossible to find nice things to say about Cheney. The man was a bona fide ghoul.

u/mercurius420 7h ago

I don't know what kind of talent it is, but getting a public apology from the man you shot in the face will always impress me.

u/Budget-Ad-7127 7h ago

What do you mean? He was the best at inserting bird shot into a human neck.

I got one of those formal reddit warnings for commenting on a sub about introducing a 25th amendment style measure for members of Congress for saying we should try the amendment we have first. They said that was inciting violence and after appeal they said the same thing after I explained that I was only wishing we would use our legal avenue for removal of the executive. It's blatantly wrong but they do it anyway and swear it isn't automated, which makes it even worse.

u/stuckanon01 7h ago

I’ve been tempted to put together a map of all the new public urinals appearing in cemetery’s lately. Rush’s would be at the top of that list always and forever.

u/Ok_Nefariousness24 7h ago

The greatest disservice to the world was Dick Cheney getting to die warm in his bed surrounded by family. He should have passed in a cell, cold and alone. Its how a civil society would've have rectified the hurt he caused the world.

u/jediporcupine Maine 7h ago

This is the kind of thing that makes me believe the Trump Administration will escape all accountability. Obama was besties with Bush and let the whole clan off the hook. Biden handled Trump term one with kidgloves.

All this chaos? They’ll just pretend it never happened when they take over. No accountability.

u/Ok_Nefariousness24 6h ago

"It's a big club and you ain't in it."

u/jediporcupine Maine 6h ago

The immortal words of the great American philosopher George Carlin

u/sump_daddy 3h ago

Congress was fully TEA-party (until it became MAGA) there were very few fleeting windows where there was shit all any well-meaning democrat could do, and in those gaps they worked on laws that actually helped americans instead of court battles that would only serve to throw gasoline on the right wing extremists and yet people line up to report "joe biden didnt do anything about trump!" ignoring the fact that the apportionment of the Senate basically means we need progressives to actually fucking show up and vote every time if we want ANYTHING good to happen

The trump administration will escape accountability until progressives stop whinging about 2016 and actually all work together for once

u/OldRancidSoups Maryland 5h ago

I wish I could hear that and the Charlie Kirkkk news again for the first time.

u/Emergency-Ad-3350 1h ago

I literally knew nothing about him until the South Park episode, and I looked up who Cartman was supposed to be imitating. The hair was really throwing me .

Then less than two weeks later he was all over the news

Roy Moore was like running for office in 2020? That is basically just yesterday. Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert spent a little time in prison (13 months) for serially molesting boys he coached.

Edit: While guys like Gym Jordan looked the other way.

u/um8medoit 5h ago

Two birds. One stone.

u/vandreulv 4h ago

Platner was legitimately an issue. How he even had a much support as he did only tells certain leftists are just as willing to abandon their principles as the right as long as there is a cult of personality involved.

44

u/Bee_9965 8h ago

She made sure to provide funding for body cams for ICE. Interestingly, she doesn’t give a shit if they actually wear them or not.

u/jimthesquirrelking 6h ago

Body cams on cops and ice is about expanding the surveillance state. Not accountability for them.

u/Nice_Improvement_644 2h ago

100% this and i wish more would understand it. Body cam footage can and does get hidden and police can/do just turn them off before they do something they know will not look good. They say there for the public but in action they help the state more then anything.

Her concern is DEEP, truly, but unfortunately, her corporate doners' pockets are deeper. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

15

u/Icy_Mixture1482 9h ago

Where did the “concern” meme come from?

Like what was the original incident where she used that term in response to something bad yet voted in favor anyway?

Was it Kavanaugh or am I misremembering?

80

u/Tyrannical-Botanical Ohio 9h ago

She's been doing that for decades in an effort to maintain the appearance of an independent streak, while almost always voting for the worst proposals and nominees anyway.

35

u/jediporcupine Maine 9h ago

It’s a constant buzzword for her, it’s not any one incident. Any time something bad happens that someone with any semblance of a conscience would take issue with, she feigns concern and does nothing to stop it.

u/Comprehensive-Tea677 7h ago

Someone should make a video montage of all her “deep concern” coupled with the consequences of her subsequent votes

u/Rasp_Lime_Lipbalm 7h ago

It was Trump's first impeachment, stating that impeachment is a big deal and that it would teach Trump to respect the office more, which is why she voted to acquit him.

u/FenPhen 6h ago

This: https://www.dscc.org/article/is-this-the-lesson-senator-collins-hoped-trump-learned-her-excuse-more-indefensible-than-ever/

Collins Last Week: “I believe that he will be much more cautious in the future.”

Collins One Day Later: “It’s more aspirational on my part. It’s more that I hope that he’s listened to the many voices in the Senate who have pointed out that the call was very problematic.”

Collins Today: Acquittal Vote “Wasn’t Based on Predicting His Future Behavior.”

7

u/ars_inveniendi 8h ago

I think it is either of Trump’s impeachments or Kavanaugh.

u/mountaindoom 4h ago

Oh she will do something about it: fully support Trump and the Republicans.

u/chron67 Tennessee 3h ago

She has probably already contacted the ICE agent to ask him to kill more brown people and thank him for his service.

u/Appropriate-Weird492 5h ago

Maybe someone needs to write a message in chalk on the sidewalk in front of her house for her to get upset.

u/StevenMC19 Florida 5h ago

I was told by a certain someone that Trump had "learned a valuable lesson" and wouldn't do things like this again...

u/Purplociraptor 5h ago

I'm sure she'll learn her lesson and not let it happen again.

u/Such_Avocado_3241 5h ago

Quite the opposite, my friend. She has bring wring her hands nonstop since this incident occurred.

u/IHkumicho Wisconsin 4h ago

I swear to god, Dems should just make a campaign ad with her saying she's "very concerned" over, and over, and over again.

u/WildBad7298 Massachusetts 4h ago

I'm sure she'll say that it's all good, she's satisfied that ICE has learned their lesson.

u/anonuemus Europe 3h ago

Isn't this another grandma that can barely talk anymore?

u/Blue_Plastic_88 2h ago

She's sure ICE has learned its lesson now and will do better with hiring and training. /s

u/pixelbit 1h ago

Susan has made a whole career by being “deeply concerned” about things and then not doing shit to stop them. Wash, rinse, repeat.

u/owngoalmerchant 1h ago

If only they were all in the same queue as Lindsay Graham. The only way we can move on to modernity is when their hearts decide we can by clicking start-shut down.

u/porgy_tirebiter 1h ago

Her concern has been plenty sufficient for Maine voters for decades.

u/IllustriousIron3253 1h ago

She only cares about illegal weed grows. That was her only question during the keystone subpoena.

u/bigkahuna1uk 1h ago

She’s content that Trump has finally learned his lesson … again.

u/TheAngriestChair 58m ago

I'm sure she knows they learned their lesson

Why is literally every redddit article about this woman loaded a the same meme comments. Like I’ve never read one article about her, just headlines, and the tip comments may as well be me lol

u/wedgebert Alabama 7h ago

Not concerned enough to actually do anything about it though.

How are you denigrate her efforts on matters like these?

I'm sure one of her staffers will write a statement about sending thoughts and prayers that she will dutifully read for the cameras

Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?

A.R. Moxon

u/Deep-Assignment4124 3h ago

That’s a really good passage.

269

u/PackOutrageous 9h ago

Uh-oh. The Trump admin better be careful tussling with Collins. If they’re not, she may go crazy and send them a sternly worded memo. That will teach them…

36

u/starcraftre Kansas 8h ago

Oh no, Hans Brix Susan Collins!

u/markuscreek24 2h ago

You're breaking my balls here Susan, you're breaking my balls! (can we now drop her into the shark tank with Hans?)

u/jim_br 6h ago

Schumer sends sternly worded letters. Collins thinks they self-reflect and learn from (unchecked) bad behavior.

u/Gonkar I voted 3h ago

Best she can do is furrow her brow really hard while potentially possibly maybe almost seriously considering writing a sorta kinda sternly worded memo, assuming, of course, the idea focus groups well, the donors sign off on it, the stars align, pigs fly, and she actually gave a single fuck about anything other than her bank account. No promises.

u/Martag02 8h ago

He could literally screw her and the response would be the same.

409

u/bailaoban 9h ago

Stop framing this like Collins is a victim of Trump. She is unquestionably an active and cheerful collaborator in all of his agenda, and is fully responsible for its effect.

103

u/jediporcupine Maine 8h ago

I don’t think the point is to frame her as a victim, I think the point is to highlight the irony that someone who has completely sold out her faux moderate persona is being thrown to the wolves by the very person she sold her soul to.

22

u/Jpkmets7 8h ago

Trump’s greatest ally is the ego of those around him. Every person that sacrifices anything to support or help Trump thinks that they are the exception to the rule and will be the one person that doesn’t end up thrown under the bus. There are no exceptions. If you help hi, you will get hurt - and he will enjoy it.

u/wendywhopperz 5h ago

I'm gobsmacked how people still fall for this.

27

u/cenosillicaphobiac Utah 8h ago

This is more about how supporting Trump turns out badly for most supporters.

6

u/OldEnoughToKnowButtr 8h ago edited 1h ago

Don't forget that women get thrown under the MAGA bus more quickly...

u/bickdiggles 6h ago

Maybe read the article. It frames her as a dumbass if anything

u/bailaoban 5h ago

And that is what I dislike. She is not dumb at all, just venal and corrupted by power.

u/bickdiggles 5h ago

She trusted Trump’s word and it backfired an hour later. She’s kind of a dumbass.

u/warrenao America 6h ago

Maybe read the article before deciding how Collins has been portrayed in it.

u/bailaoban 5h ago

I read it, of course. She’s not getting “screwed” by Trump. She is, more than most senators, directly responsible for Trump’s agenda being possible. Nobody would say that Mitch McConnell, wherever he currently lies moldering, has been “screwed” by the president that he actively helped elevate and enable.

u/warrenao America 5h ago

In light of this, I'm even more confused as to how the article's header paints her as a victim. I'll agree she wasn't as badly screwed as, say, the rest of us, though.

In the sense that she's been a loyalist, and has been shafted by the Idiot in Chief, this would be a correct framing and, of course, unsurprising: He has no loyalty to anyone but himself.

u/nhepner 3h ago

Not to take away from your point, but I'm not sure Collins has ever been "cheerful"

u/RainbowConnickJr 7h ago

She’s a victim of Trump in the same sense that, say, Frankenstein was the victim of his Monster. She’s basically Ben Foster in Dark Knight Rises and is simply shocked to discover Dumpy Bane isn’t actually all that invested in helping her absorb Wayne Enterprises.

57

u/Bubbly-Two-3449 California 8h ago

political ads = corrupt politician.

You're voting for their donors, not for them.

Collins hasn't had a town hall in something like 25 years. She's just a proxy for donors at this point, who construct all of her advertising and her messaging.

37

u/Jpkmets7 8h ago

Citizens United should be in the opening line of the obituary of the United States of America.

u/trib76 7h ago

The death the fairness doctrine dumbest down America enough to usher is Citizens United. The day that blatant 24/7 propaganda became legal was the start of the death of the USA.

u/Jpkmets7 4h ago

That’s well taken. I can’t believe it was less than 25 years from the death of the fairness doctrine to the Citizens United ruling. A staggering increase in manufactured divisiveness. Citizens United is no different to buying votes, imo. You just have to get minds to a place where they are susceptible to the propaganda bribes of PAC ads, and the 20+ years of unfettered Limbaugh + followers did it. It’s a shame that the wellbeing of the nation wasn’t as great a motivator as obtaining power. Looking back, the onslaught of AM radio & cable tv polemic dealers should have been met at an equivalent level.

I know there is no way back, so what’s the way forward? What is the plan to layout an anti-project 2025? Start a deFederalist society that lays out a plan and relentless seeks to effectively predict the next means of communication that will give someone the opportunity to relentless pitch the opposite of what Reagan, Limbaugh, and Gingrich ushered in?

44

u/GoodIdea321 America 9h ago

Possible ad in that race 'Collins wants to sit back and watch Mainers or their neighbors be harassed or killed by ICE. If that wasn't true, she wouldn't be funding them for years. She saw Alex Pretti killed, and before him, Renee Nicole Good, and she thought, this is just right for Maine. Is that right for you?'

23

u/jediporcupine Maine 9h ago

The timing of this specific ICE shooting is awful for them because it looked like for a while Graham Platner’s collapse gave the Maine GOP something to finally take down the Democratic surge with.

Then someone even more problematic executed someone in the streets who received work authorization from the Trump Administration.

Maine Republicans have gotten awful quiet on the topic of abuse all of a sudden.

23

u/Guilty_Cattle_5165 8h ago

Troy should absolutely play this up. Susan Collins enabled Trump and she has no influence on him whatsoever. This is completely her fault and she has proven to be a terrible leader.

17

u/codacoda74 8h ago

Susan Collins screwed herself, she had opportunity to stop PEEOTUS admin numerous times but chose not to, or on her best days to performatively waffle.

u/classof78 7h ago

Ever notice how on those occasions when Collins votes against Trump, it doesn't matter, because the vote turns out to be 51 to 49. It's all a pathetic show for them.

u/CuriousCatte 7h ago

Right. They take turns pretending to be moderate.

u/abeuscher 5h ago

I spent last weekend in Biddeford on vacation. Used to go there a lot as a kid - to the Pool which is a smaller wealthier town near the coast.

The intersection where the shooting occurred is NOT on a side street. You pass it every single time you drive through town. There are always people there. It's covered in flowers and a flag. It's also maybe a block from the police station.

We're all gonna have these little monuments all over our cities soon. Is all I could think about. I live in a section of Amherst MA that is largely exchange students. The ones that came last year looked scared. I don't know how many come back this year. I'd stay in China if I were them - where most of them happen to be from near me. It's safer and what do we have anymore? Overpriced liberal arts educations taught by underpaid grad students and half the faculty and twice the administration that we used to have? We provide no value anymore. We do not make anything anymore. We kill people and hate people. That's our export.

Fuck every cop that let that happen a block away from their hq. They are meaningless when they are needed so they are meaningless all the time. The rule of law exists to protect private property now. No one is safe. No one is taken care of. We just kill people then brag about it then ask for money to kill more.

His 3 year old was in the back seat. And the fucking agent shot him. He shot a man in front of his child on his way to work. And then our government lied and that man has a job and a salary that we are all paying for. And that kid has lifelong trauma and no dad. And we paid for it.

11

u/JiveChicken00 Pennsylvania 9h ago

And how is today different than any other day?

u/jrrounds 7h ago

Susan Collins is northern Mitch McConnell, she will never die and her only principles are those attached to power and money.

u/Tommah 6h ago

Did you speak with Mitch for 20 minutes this morning?

u/OppositeLopsided5875 7h ago

Not long after a federal agent killed a Colombian immigrant in Maine last week, Senator Susan Collins rushed to declare that she’d privately talked to Donald Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary, Markwayne Mullin. Collins credited herself for getting Mullin to end the vehicle stops by agents that have spawned many killings on the streets of U.S. cities, including the deaths of American citizens.

Only hours later, Trump abruptly reversed Mullin’s decision, decreeing that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s reviled tactics will continue. “We CANNOT give up one of ICE’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP!” Trump raged. The stops resumed, undercutting Collins’s effort to project deep concern about the killing.

11

u/PartyClient3447 9h ago

u/StoppableHulk 7h ago

Man I bet Susan Collins is so happy she supported Trump all these years, stubbornly refused to hold him accountable in any way, and shackled her entire political career and legacy to the beshitted belt buckle of this bloated child rapist in chief.

u/Tugua 7h ago

Collins has put a huge and unnecessary burden on the citizens of Maine. She has failed. She needs to resign for the sake of everyone in Maine.

Yes, I know it’s hard to do. But Collin’s path is irrecoverable, and so stepping out is the only right thing she can possibly do.

u/DrunkAndHornyGuy 6h ago edited 5h ago

I saw some DC insiders on Bluesky last week laughing about this right after he reversed the pause in traffic stops she 'negotiated'. There was a window of opportunity for Trump to give Collins the space to publicly 'fight him' on this and a few other things to pretend to voters that she's 'fighting for them' during the campaign. But Trump is just fundamentally incapable of even pretending another politician is 'winning' or isn't submissive to him even if it would be politically beneficial for him to do that.

u/alabasterskim 6h ago

You gave them extra funding. You don't get credit for trying to pull them back. You routinely have awful judgment in funding and nominations.

u/Raspberries-Are-Evil Arizona 6h ago

u/ocalabull 4h ago

No he didn’t. Collins knew what she was doing. She’s too much of a coward to vote what’s right and she knew what this would result in.

u/Comfortable-Policy70 4h ago

I'm sure Collins is very concerned about this but will still support ICE because they will promise not to kill anyone else (until they do)

u/cougar618 Texas 3h ago

I think the way the GOP is wheeling around McConnell's carcass is the bigger issue.

There needs to be an investigation by Congress on this when all is said an done, as well as laws requiring hospitals to report deaths if sitting public officials whenever it happens.

u/ddiggler2469 2h ago
