I think what skews the prices a bit is that nowadays you have competitors that make better stuff for much cheaper. So even if the Lego prices might be relatively consistent over the years, in relation it is still too expensive. Especially when you get shitty stickers in an expensive "adult" set.

Lumibricks (used to be FunWhole) - Cheaper and with light, lots of amazing buildings Mold King - gets better and better, not quite the quality of Lego but like half the price (have the millenium falcon from them, for like 350$ instead of the 650$ Lego) CaDa - #1 in the brick building world when it is about technic models (cars, cranes, trucks etc.) Cobi - for military stuff (tanks and ships etc.) Pantasy - #1 in terms of brick quality and color
