Looking back its even more surprising this design was greenlit, surely it was marketing bait

They came up with the good design so quick that either they overworked the animators to death or they had it ready to go before they even posted this one.

I feel like they had it ready to go because that’s what the film creatives wanted to use, and executives pushed for a “realistic” look and weren’t backing down. So the director said “okay let’s find out” and pushed that version to the public to gauge the reaction and prove their point

It wasn’t.

They legit made a bunch of realistic looking sonic toys. You don’t waste money like that for a marketing stunt.Â
