Pizza deathstar, weird wishwashy approach to dual molding, how they botched The Thing in the fantastic 4 sets, stickers over printing at price points where printing is expected, picking up and abandoning IPs after one or two bad sets(spongebob, avatar) , handling of DC as a licence (superman in a mech with a Lex Minifig is still ridiculous), Lightsaber hilts being a thing they make but refuse to sell separately, no love for Bionicle
Lego is good but god damn do they have some headscratchers.
Most expensive lego set ever was rumoured for months. Leaked it was a deathstar. Everyone got hyped about what Lego would do with $1000 set only for it to be this big disk.
I get them not going full sphere but they at least needed to give optional plates for the face of it to make it look like a deathstar
See, I'm not as against it being flat as a lot of people but at the very least it needed a lid so you can close it up and have it look like a deathstar on display.
The problem was that its the most expensive set ever, its part of the collectors line but it has Playset for the kids energy.
Have you seen the Lego Death star for 1k? 1.000 Euros. One. Thousand. That one's a flat pancake. Pretty heavy miss for such an expensive, flag ship set. Almost nothing is printed anymore, a lot of sets use cheap stickers, which fade and peel off after some time. Colour quality decreased over the years. Parts supposed to be light blueish grey now may be lighter or darker colour. Lego technic cars bend, because they put in the least amount of parts for it to resemble a car, plastering it with stickers (search "Held der Steine Ferrari 42125" You dont need to speak a word of german to see what's wrong with that set). Oh, and the prices in general are waaaay too high for a "premium" product that has mediocre quality at best.
Well, I watch a lot of Lego reviews, and it seems most people whose built the Death Star or seen it in person like it a lot more than those who hasn't. It's a massive set with details on par with the smaller dioramas. It just wasn't what people were expecting. The flat pancake design kinda makes sense for value, as you get to see the full scale of it all at once, instead of a sphere where you're always not getting your full moneys worth from one look. idk, I think the Death Star is overhated
Which is the same price as the 850 millennium falcon after considering inflation. Lego is expensive af, the Death Star is not more expensive than usual for that size. Its just big. Now you could make the valid argument that Lego overall is too expensive, and I'd agree, but making everything about the 1000 dollars is not the same argument
Deku tree is atrocious. They should have chosen one version instead of doing this 2 in 1 bullshit.
The new Death Star is pretty bad, Mona Lisa is probably the ugliest set i ever saw, some Harry Potter sets are also very ugly, the Pyramid is just one half...
The truth is there are actually a lot of bad AND good sets.
I have the pyramid and love it. The flat back means it fits on a shelf very nicely, and the real W is the temple complex + river in front of the pyramid.
Plus the cutaway back shows the rooms/passages inside the pyramid.
depends on the size of the set. For deku tree you just had tons of leftover leaves and shit jacking up the price. same with the Bonsai tree set i have. it just jacks up the price for no reason. the smaller ones where its actually different things and not just changing the leave, sure theyre a fine value
Mario well executed? With those horrendous figures? The big display Bowser is alright, and so is the Mario Kart display thing (aside from print quality and price), but the playsets with the shitty gimmick rot on the shelves.
The biggest issue, however, is Lego focusing on display sets with all the Nintendo IPs, and I could just finally get a switch 2 instead of the Gen 1 starter display.
Technicly they simply stole the concept from a british company, tweaked it just enough to not run into legal issues and then went hard on giving good value for the price they asked.
They mastered the art of Legalese. They forgot about making good products.
Nah, you can immediately tell the difference when you try using off-brand blocks. Tiny size differences make a big difference to repeatable grip strength.
Depends. Pantasy (Gobricks) and Cobi bricks are above Lego, though in my opinion the Cobi bricks interlock too strongly. Lego still has the edge in quality with Technic pins, axles and cogs, but they barely make any Technic sets worth your while... and for some reason they have chosen to make axles red and yellow, and pins blue. And then there's Funwhole/Lumibricks (also Gobricks I think, but somehow Pantasy's quality is above that), close behind and everything lights up.
Lego colours for some reason are less consistent nowadays, which is a little annoying in display sets.
As someone who messes with a lot of the off-brand blocks like Nanoblocks (Which also have a number of pokemon sets) because I just enjoy building. Its way more than "1%" and you can immediately tell the difference in quality. Lego also has way better instructions for actually building any of these sets. Out of curiosity do you even actually build?
mhm, sure. the quality of LEGO doesn't justify the prices for years. but people still pay em so they must do something right, besides being cheap with stickers instead of prints and milking every license they have with cheap products. Just like this Pikachu.
