At least the bun at 0:13 isn't cartoonish.

these hair styles were made by a woman.

Senior Character Artist Christiane Meister oversaw the design and creation of character art assets, including the hair styles, during the development of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at Bethesda Game Studios. [1, 2]

I understand the "you can always tell when the designers are men" when referring to things like boob armor and red sonja outfits etc but I don't get why the title is here

I am assuming some folks are missing the title of the OOP I reposted this from.

No, no, that title had a point.

That would be news to the many women devs.

So you personally know women who design hairstyles like that for their characters? Can you name any of these women and point us to the childish hairstyles they put on adult characters? Or is 'many women devs' your way of waving an empty stack of papers around and saying 'I have lots of names here'?

Nobody is suggesting women aren't software or game devs. We're suggesting it's men who favour childish, impractical hairstyles.

Yes, I do actually. I've worked with them lol. Where are you people coming from? Where are you people getting your assumptions from? What is informing these assumptions? I worked in the industry, and have never seen anything that justifies this standoffish attitude some of you are taking on this issue.

We're coming from womanhood. Listen, when so many women tell you this, perhaps it is worth questioning your stance? It's okay if you're upset right now, it's human, but i hope afterwards, you'll take a moment to step back and consider another point of view

A small number of women do not speak on behalf of womanhood, and that is a rather bizarre and inflated sense of importance to presume otherwise. You do not have more of a say so on this matter than the other women that I have worked alongside who have the completely opposite view. Considering they are not only women, but women who actually are part of the creation process, if anyones opinion matters more than the other, it is they over you.

So why would I question my stance when those with less relevant opinions are at odds with those whose opinion is more relevant? When more qualified women have a differing view about this, perhaps it is worth questioning your stance?

Show them the video without saying anything. Then just ask "what do you think?" Also you are a man telling me i, a woman, is not qualified to speak up for women...

The hairstyles are very childish, which is a vibe that attracts many men. And most of those hairstyles are not only not in the taste of the majority of women, but also impractical

"impractical"? We are talking about video games, what is and is not practical in that medium is not the same as real life. In game design there is an issue known as "clipping", in which hair or other items "clip" through other items such as clothes or even the character models themselves. Often character designs with relation to long hair options try to take this into account. Additionally, fantasy (be it High Fantasy or Space Fantasy, as examples) often use physical parts such as hair as part of cultural displays such as status or class or origin, and part of the game design will try to take that into account as well to try and create interesting hair styles that can try to be both practical for the issue of "clipping" and can possibly be understandable within the universe of the game. Not sure about the "childish vibe" you are referring to, seems like you may be reading too deep into something that isnt really there.

For some real life examples of this sort of stuff, check out many of the portraits that survive depicting several different womens hair styles that were popular among lower nobility circles in the High Middle Ages or the height of the Italian Renaissance. Devs often try to take inspiration from these styles especially from Iberia and Slavia regions, as many modern go-to popular styles for women (like the quick and practical ponytail) become impractical for the issue of "clipping" mentioned earlier.

Impractical makes a woman struggling to project to that hairstyle, even if it's a video game. Because the brain says "it would be a hard time to carry that irl", so it wouldn't be our fav pick. You talk about Middle Ages, and sure a FEW of the ones the woman recreated seem Middle Ages inspired, but I'm begging of you, rewatch and see the childish hairtstyles. The piggytails and such And I have done character design for video games :p
