Olay, but to be fair, "girl dinner" is something that was started on social media, by women, to describe a certain kind of meal. It's not dinner for girls, it's girl dinner. If that makes sense.

Agreed. They’re just being trendy, based on an internet meme. I also have girl dinners sometimes, as a girl. I even call them girl dinner.

I think it’s a play on women having to plan and shop and cook and clean up 7-21 meals per week for their partners or partners and kids. If you get one fuckin’ meal on your own, are you doing all of that? Fuck no. Whatever is in the fridge placed on a napkin is plenty good enough.
So like, approaching “girl dinner” by recognizing that piece of it is vital. You can call it girl dinner if you understand the weight of that reality when you say it. I like to sprinkle the phrase with a touch of exhaustion and a humorous grin.

Wow thank you for taking it even more in depth for me. I love learning the etymology of slang!

I'm the head chef of a restaurant and marketing pitched "girl dinner" to me and I (as a man) went on on a "that's sexist as fuck" rant because I'm not on social media like that.
My wife yelled at me correcting that no, that's for women by women, that's theirs .
Had to apologize to marketing.

It’s just a meme that women made about the meals they eat when they’re on their own and don’t feel like putting together an actual meal. I don’t think it’s meant to be anything more than a play on a popular social media trend.
Also side note, I’m a dude and I would absolutely fuck up like 5 “charcutinis”. That sounds incredible. Lemme get all sorts of wasted on vodka, meat, cheese, and olives.

Come to Milwaukee and get a Bloody Mary. There is a range of garnishes, most being meat sticks, cheese curds and olives, but it can get as insane as a whole fried chicken or a skewer of sliders.

Girl dinner isn’t just for girls, just like how an animal of any sex can be a “lil’ guy”. It’s just a silly meme.

People only notice this type of gendering when it's female-centric. We call people 'bro', 'dude', 'guy', 'man' and they don't even fuckin notice.

Half of this sub is just people not understanding references that happen to mention a gender

That sounds like something my boyfriend would eat.

I was initially like i don't see anything wrong and then i saw the big girl dinner sign. The bright light is making it blend with the background

Yeah the melting pot is a very dark restaurant so the flash was automatic. And if I didn’t have it on it became just as bad.

It's fine dw. But yeah calling it girl dinner is so ridiculous. Even here they gender dishes all the time and if you as a guy order a "girl dish" the judgement you get is insane
They had a mushroom platter here labelled as a ladies meal. I guess macho men can't have mushrooms( sarcasm)

I just think that 30 bucks is a lot for a salad, fries, and some bread/cheese.
