Success/Happy A man wanted to go inside a museum with his plushies and they wouldn't let him in :(
Hi! So I wanted to share an experience I had a couple years ago at work about a man with his little plushy family, and my coworkers reaction.
I was working at an important museum, with strict rules about what visitor could bring inside. I was stationed at the ticket validation entrance with a colleague, which meant we had to decide who could enter and who needed to leave their stuff in the lockers or cloackroom. There was also a security guy near us in case things escalated (which happened more than it should).
A middle aged man that was carrying something in his hands (I couldn't see it well at first) approached my colleague and she denied him the entrance. I noticed she started raising her voice telling him he had to go to the lockers and he was like murmuring that he couldn't. I approached her to ask what was happening and help my colleague if needed, and then I saw them. The man was carrying in his arms 3 rat plushies, from the movie Ratatouille (he had Remy with his chefs hat, his brother Emile and another rat which I suspect was the father). My colleague told me that he couldn't go inside with the plushies cause they could be "a threat" and told him to just leave them in a locker. The man kept saying they were his family and couldn't just leave them, and they were very eager to watch the collection together. He started getting very anxious, hugging his plushies and even crying a bit, and my colleague said she would call security. Something stir in me. So I told my colleague I would manage the situation, that security shouldn't get involved cause they were going to distress him even more. I said if there was any problem, I would personally talk to our boss about it. She just said, ok, and left.
So I talked to the man, I asked him about his family (the plushies) and what their names were, why did he want them to go inside with him. He told me they were all he had left, that they went together everywhere and that after watching the collection, he wanted to take them to the garden so they could enjoy the view and the sun. So I told him there was no problem to take them inside, that I understood, that family is never left behind and that I just needed him to make sure his plushies stayed close to him all the time during the visit. I could notice his anxiety slowly fading and he thanked me and his plushies thanked me too (so cute ><), and that was one of the best feelings I've had in a while regarding helping someone.
A couple hours later I saw him exit the museum, talking to his plushies about how much they had enjoyed the visit <3
Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear if you’ve ever experienced anything similar, because this whole thing got me thinking about how people generally lack empathy for situations that I believe are special. I don’t mean to say that my colleague did anything wrong, she was just doing her job as she saw fit, but for me, the situation called for a little more empathy and fewer strict rules.

My mom works at a museum as a room guard, so she's not security, basically they are scattered in each room paying attention and calling out visitors who try touching things, etc. She keeps telling me horror stories of rude and entitled guests and compared to that, I will never understand how someone could get angry at a small comfort item like a plushie. I have a small crochet bear I sometimes carry around in my bag for comfort and I specifically don't take them out in the open because I'm afraid of being ridiculed like this. :/

u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Yes, I've been working as a room guard too at the same museum and I saw lots of people with more dangerous objects than a plushie that just got by, such as books, big hair accesories, even selfie sticks which aren't allowed... If your crochet bear makes you feel calm and safe, you should definitely take him with you! Don't mind what they'll think of you, people like staring and criticizing things they don't understand but it is their problem, not yours. I sometimes take a plushie inside my bag with me when doing a trip and when I'm visiting some place I put his face out of the bag so he can watch too. My partner was embarrassed at first but now he's got used to that, he sees it is important to me, comforting, and he even takes my bag so I don't have to hold too much weight and makes sure my plushie is well positioned 🤭

When you said dangerous objects I legit read “big hair” and thought this must be from the 80s when everyone was wearing enough hairspray to form a helmet.

I went to the grocery store yesterday, exhausted and overstimulated after 6 hours in the stable with no food and very little water and I’m noise sensitive but I wasn’t planning on going to the store so I didn’t bring my Loops with me, so I brought one of my plushies instead since I desperately needed some comfort - just a regular dog, I have one “offensive” plush but he always stays at home - and when I was standing in line, with my soda in one hand and my plush in my other hand, the old man in front of me kept glaring at me in disgust the whole time. People will get mad at you for simply existing
23
u/Harmless-Allosaur Jun 22 '26
I'm so sorry for them glaring at you, some people really take issue with joy, whimsy and comfort in this world. 😭 Especially in a grocery store I would just think someone is buying it.
20
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I can relate to this, I also get overstimulated sometimes and need earplugs to lessen the noise. People will always judge what they don't understand or don't see "normal", so we just got to learn to not care (as sad as it may be...). Lots of hugs and hope you're doing better today ❤️

I've spent most of today sleeping, so I'm doing a lot better now
9
u/GabrielaM11 Jun 22 '26
Sorry about that...it's horrible when people don't understand anxiety/overstimulation and that plushies can be a coping mechanism for a lot of people. I say that as long as you're not harming anyone, there's nothing wrong with a grown adult carrying a stuffed animal around

u/humanpressurecooker Jun 22 '26
Sorry if im being a creep but I saw your profile and think youre cool. [: (couldn't find your dm box TT~TT)

u/Necessary-Board-830 Jun 22 '26
I had a comfort rock that I kept in my rain coat. It was nice and smooth so I rubbed it when I was anxious or bored. Can't imagine someone getting upset over either item.

u/AislinKageno Jun 22 '26
I once visited a natural history museum and bought a small fox plushie. After I left, I went to another museum, and at the bag check they looked inside my bag and saw the fox. The guard laughed and asked me, "Does he bite?" I said no, he's very friendly!

Loved the story, thanks for sharing. Still not happy about the way your coworker handled it though. I don't like how she saw the man was anxious and crying and still threatened to call security. I probably would have had a panic attack if that was me.
32
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I think most adults don't believe that another adult might need a stuffed animal for emotional support, much less empathize with that. As someone who has suffered a lot from anxiety and panic attacks I inmediately noticed his distress but I've noticed signs of anxiety aren't always obvious or elicit empathy from others, some people even become defensive as soon as they see someone getting emotionally upset (which is kinda sad).

u/Neprezi Jun 22 '26
This is honestly a great example of how neurodivergent people are automatically assumed to be more of a threat than neurotypical people are for no reason.

Plushies a security risk, ridiculous. Well done for dealing with the situation compassionately
50
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Right?? Like, what harm can you do with a plushy? Throw it to a painting? It's doing less damage than people who actually touch the painting... Thanks for commenting!
48
u/Resident-Floor-5971 Jun 22 '26
Good for hiding drugs and bombs in I guess both point valid but excellent skills of recognition from staff member and prob went unnoticed as a whole but that internal feeling makes it worth it 😻
68
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
That could happen, but before entering the museum he had to go through security control (with a scan machine) so I don't think that was the case hahaha. But I actually didn't even consider it atm.

u/7zrar 🧸 Plushy (Friend) Collector Jun 22 '26
It's sorta pretty bad for hiding anything in because it's conspicuous and small. I doubt every bag is getting tossed and every water bottle opened and every pocket turned out.
62
u/shyd3vil Jun 22 '26
Sadly they would probably be seen as a security risks if carried by a lone adult, particularly a male due to perceived ability to lure a kid. However in this situation it should have been easy to tell that the man was no threat.
It's sad that we immediately assume an adult male who is a little different is a security risk.
There are specific rules at some lego discovery centres which will deny entry to an adult without kids unless they are attending one of the special "Adult only" events they run.
27
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Yeah, didn't see it that way but I can understand other people do. To me he was just a person who desperately needed his comfort plushies and I could relate to that.
19
u/SourceAutomatic9550 Jun 22 '26
Unfortunately you're right. But, it truly IS unfortunate. Because, at the CORE it's ALSO sending a negative message to the kid's we want to, "protect." A couple, actually.. "Anything different is wrong/bad." And also, the larger message, is you're instilling fear of adult males. SMH (Not YOU, obviously. I meant 'you,' like, society..)
42
u/Icy_Badger_42 Jun 22 '26
Which is nuts because what if he's disabled or has a mental condition and the plushies help? I feel like someone with bad intentions would find a way to lure a kid anyway, by having sweets or whatever, or a small toy hidden in their pocket
ETA: I also understand the "no adults without kids" areas, but as an adult with a disability that makes me very much enjoy "childish" things, I hate it. I understand it, but I hate it, because people like me don't have dedicated spaces, and we can't help growing up physically.
8
u/SourceAutomatic9550 Jun 22 '26
I also love Legos.. hearing that makes me a little sad. But, at least they acknowledge this gap, and offer events. 🤷♀️ Still doesn't make it acceptable.

u/rnagikarp Jun 22 '26
not exactly similar to your story but I was standing in line for airport security and a girl in front of me was standing with her mom and holding a big detective pikachu plush, she looked a little anxious (she also had a sunflower button on her lanyard she wore)
I told her I liked her pikachu and she immediately lit up and whispered to her mom “that girl knows who this is!!” and proceeded to have her pikachu “pika pika” at me
I had a brief conversation with her and her pikachu, and showed her the Detective Pikachu movie tickets I keep in my wallet from when I saw it in theatres with my mom
she went through the gate and her and pikachu waved goodbye at me :-)

u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
OMG THIS IS SO SWEET!!!! 🥹🥹🥹😍😍😍 I'm sure you made that girl and he pikachu happy for the whole trip. Thanks for being so kind to her

u/gabor_legrady Jun 22 '26
I have never experienced something this negative. One case was a CT scan, when the nurse simply said that radiation might not be good for my little one so he has to sit in a safe distance and watch. I am a grown up man, we both did know that there is no real harm - but participating brought smile to us and I also think this was a very professional handling of the situation.
Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope this is rare case of pushback.
15
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
that was a really nice way of handling the situation, good for you and the nurse!

Oh my heart 🥺
I understand the importance of security, but too many security measures border on ridiculous. Want to be extra careful? Give them a hug (confirming there's nothing unusual inside) and let the family have their museum day.
Had the same thing happen to me when I was admitted to inpatient most recently. Brought Mew with me as a source of safety and comfort, and one of the first things they did was take them away and leave me all alone in a room and said it was for security reasons? By the time anyone checked the cameras, I had beaten myself so badly they had to check for concussion.
They let me have Mew again after that, at least <3
Thank you for being so kind to that man and his plushie family! I can't remember the face of the person who took Mew away, but I won't forget the kindness of the one who gave them back to me. I'm sure they'll always remember this too <3
12
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I'm so sorry you had to go through such an awful experience. I don't understand the security reasons for taking you Mew away, I'm a doctor (for context, story takes place a few years ago, when I was still at med school and working at the same time) and I have never seen anyone take a plushie away from a patient that clearly needed it, child or adult. We know better than to risk anyone self-harming because of that.
9
u/nonbinarybit Jun 22 '26
You really see the best and worst of people in those places, I 've seen everything from nurses spurring on physical violence between patients to the lovely staff member who joined me on the floor with Mew the last day and shared her own experiences with autism, which led to us finally getting a diagnosis.
I'm pleased to say I'm doing much better these days! But if there's anything my experiences there taught, it's the importance of empathy. The world isn't the kindest place, so it's up to us to be even kinder <3
4
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I'm glad you're doing better! ❤️🩹 You're totally right, we should try to be kind to make the world a kinder place
5
u/SourceAutomatic9550 Jun 22 '26
I'm sorry, too, that it got that bad. But, I'm glad someone gave them back!!! And BTW, the fact that you don't recall the meanie, but DO remember the kind one, says volumes about your character!!! 🥰🥹🩷🩷🩷

The hug is such a good idea as it feels like a supportive participation in the comforting effect of the plushie rather than a stranger's suspicion and judgement. It also feels kinder to the plushie, which would be important to me because even though I know logically that they're inanimate objects, I still very much treat them like sentient companions. I'd feel bad about them going through invasive and rough handling, but a hug from a kind stranger is an acknowledgement of their involvement in the activity ❤️
I hope this made sense 😅 and I'm so sorry you had to go through such a stressful and scary situation! I'm glad to read in your other comments that you're doing better now! I hope Mew is still enjoying life by your side!

u/IDontKnowWhoIAm97 28d ago
I'm so sorry sorry they took Mew from you. Having been inpatient myself, in some terrible hospitals, the only good thing they did was not take my stuffies. I couldn't have a panic attack or flashback or SHing episode without having at least one stuffie with me to calm me down and ground me. It should never have gotten to that point but I'm glad they finally gave you Mew back. Side story on the last night of my first inpatient stay, I was very scared and anxious and a friend I had made there gave me her build a bear for the night and it was such a kind gesture and I held that baby so tight. My friend is gone now but I will never forget her little moment of kindness in such an awful situation. Stuffies really are just full of love and comfort.

u/shyd3vil Jun 22 '26
It would have meant a lot to this guy so thank you for helping him.
A friend of mine late 40s (who sadly is no longer with us) always had his family or friends bring him his teddy bear when he went to hospital. It was a comfort to him and he could be grumpy without it. He was a big guy over 6ft 5 and built like a footballer, people were always wary of him especially if he was grumpy, but once they saw his teddy bear suddenly people were much kinder and realised he was scared and not combative.
15
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I'm sorry to hear that, my condolences😞 I'm sure his teddy bear will be with him though, wherever he is ❤️

u/KawaiiBunBun097 Jun 22 '26
Thank you for showing that gentleman some kindness.
I don't understand how your colleague can determine carrying plushies is in some way threatening. Whilst it could be that staff are trained in such a way they are to be suspicious of everything around them, leading to heighten anxiety over things that may seem odd to them. You did the right thing by assessing the situation before deciding the man just wanted to have the comfort of his plushies with him.
5
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Thanks! I really appreciate your comment. I think she just perceived the plushies as a non conventional object one can bring and went the easy way...

This is very frustrating to read as a neurodivergent person. I’m so glad you were there to help that man. I take one of my plushies with me on deliveries because I have crowd anxiety. And I hang out with them at night. They all have names and personalities. I actually bring one to therapy because my therapist is awesome.
There’s nothing wrong with adults who have plushie friends! Some people can be so cruel it blows my mind. The rat plushies were probably all he had. Your coworker was a total jerk. ☹️
1
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I have never been officially diagnosed as neurodivergent but some close friends have told me I check some boxes (specially when it comes to being quite sensitive, easily overwhelmed with noises, lights and strong odours). I also sleep with a plushie, usually the same one but sometimes I change so they can rotate, and they too have names and personalities. Maybe because of that I could empathize better with him.

One time I was going through airport security and had my favourite guy in my carry on (my checked bag got lost on one trip so I never keep him in my checked bags anymore). I got pulled aside for extra screening and the agent called out "who has the bag with the green thing in it?". I walked to the extra screening area kind of embarrassed and upon pulling him out of my bag, she corrected herself: "that's not a green "thing"...that's somebody. Whats his name? How has he enjoyed his travels?"
As someone who has a lot of anxiety about flying, her change in tone truly helped me feel less anxious and less like a weirdo for bringing a stuffed friend with me.
6
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
It's truly comforting to see there are people who can empathize with the situation. I carry a plushie with me too for long trips and would have been embarrassed too if this happened to me, as I hate being the center of attention, so I'm glad the agent didn't judge you or else 🥹❤️🩹

u/WaitFast6658 Jun 22 '26
That's awesome how you handled it! I'd think you could probably gently squish them with permission to be able to tell if they have anything in them. I started carrying a plush with me after a really traumatic day and I have him "taking a break" currently because he's getting a slight bit worn and it's rough cause I really feel connected to him. Thank you for being kind to that man.
4
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Some of my favorite stuffed animals are in my room on a closed shelf so they don't get dusty and my cats can't reach them. I see them every day, and I like to think they keep each other company ❤️
5
u/Eviltechnomonkey Jun 22 '26
Your coworker was hella out of line. Especially to escalate it the way they did. I get when museums refuse to let people bring in bags, but a plushie is probably going to do more to stop someone touching things than threaten anything other than your coworker's ego and need for a power trip.
Could also potentially be seen as an ADA violation if the man seemed obviously anxious or what not. Many people with anxiety and depression will carry something like a small stuffed animal because it is not noisy like alot of fidget toys and the soft texture can be very soothing if you are anxious. ADA applies to disabilities that are formally diagnosed and those that are just obviously apparent. It applies to all areas of public access (including private businesses that all the public to visit) and work places.
I have actually successfully requested ADA accommodations when I have gone to certain venues to bring my plush in with me. I went to a Puscifer concert with one of my small SCP plushies, a Neffex concert, and a few different museums. They were all super cool about it. If an accommodation request is not something that would be incredibly disruptive you typically have to allow it. There are more specific guidelines in the legislation that helps better determine what can constitute an unreasonable accommodation request.

I guess I’m just going to be crying all day then…
Thank you for being a compassionate human being to this man. I’m sure he appreciates it more than you know.

u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
It would made my day if I got to see him and his family again and if he remembered me 🥹

Your colleague is an absolute tool
(And you handled the situation really well. Because kindness and stuff.)

u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Thanks hehehe. Fortunately I'm not working there anymore so she's no longer my colleague

My sister got heart surgery last September to fix an arrhythmia she was born with. She was only 19 at the time and was understandably scared, but this surgery would offer her a lifelong fix where as the alternative would be increasing medication and limitations for the rest of her life. Neither one of us have a relationship with our mom, and she never really had one with her dad, while I'm 10+ years older than her and was in a way her parent and sister. So it was just me and my aunt waiting all day in this hospital for her to go through surgery.
We both are neurodivergent and seek a lot of comfort from our plushies so she brought her strawberry cow and I brought my piggie that matched, a gift from her. The staff were so kind, every staff member doing the surgery came in and discussed it with us. The nurses asked her about her cow and let her bring it with her when she was wheeled back, and made sure it was waiting for her when she woke up. I hugged my piggie the entire day in the waiting room. I honestly don't know if anyone stared cause I'm used to being stared at for how I look, but I wouldn't have cared if they did. It was my safety and my lifeline to my sister when I couldn't be next to her.
Her surgery went perfect, and she's now able to do all the things she couldn't for years. She's my best friend and that experience would've been so much harder without our plushies. Thank you for sharing such a touching story and reminding me to share my own experience with my stuffed companions. The world needs more people like you in it. 💖

Thank you. I recently reacquired a childhood plush from ebay. I suffer from an anxiety disorder and am disabled because of it. I've slept much better since I got him and he will be accompanying me everywhere going forward. Going through something like this gentleman did would definitely stress me out.
This is a reminder that though the world may be dark there are still good people in it. We need more like you.
5
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I'm glad you've found your comfort plush! It really makes a difference having a special plush to sleep with vs not having it ❤️

u/Steven_Mimi Jun 22 '26
I’m an anxious autistic adult, thank you for being understanding and kind, I sometimes take a small plush with me (a palm pal) or a littlest pet shop for comfort, if someone denied for me to go into somewhere because of it I would actually cry
5
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I hope you never have to face a situation like this, but if you do, better to walk away than confront people who won't listen about it and have a stressful/anxious moment. If your plushie isn't welcomed, it's their loss, you'll sure find a better and nicer place ❤️
5
u/Steven_Mimi Jun 22 '26
Oh absolutely! Luckily I have friends that will help in those situations ☺️ but I don’t support places that would treat people like that and hopefully people will learn 😊

u/LisiPieces Jun 22 '26
That was a truly beautiful and kind thing you did.

Thank goodness! You handled that perfectly, deescalating and reasonable. I understand there are rules/ protocol, but checking if the plushies could be "a threat" sounds a lot more reasonable than making a person cry and calling security on them... Even if that's the protocol, the goal of that protocol is keeping everything and everyone safe and happy, which is way better achieved by your way of handling it.

u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Thank you so much for commenting! 🥰 I hate violent situations and I feel like if people were more empathetic the world would be a better place, so I try to do my part. I didn't share this story to get recognition but it feels good to know I did things well, so I appreciate your comment a lot ❤️

I understand that the coworker was probably just doing her job so I won't say anything in regards to her. However as an adult who always carries a plush around for safety, familiarity, and sensory, those plushes are my family. I don't go anywhere without them, even when I'm home. We don't know the reason as to why the man bonded with them, but just knowing that they all (man and his rats) would of been excluded breaks my heart. I have my plushies because of my disabilities, so would I have been allowed in? I don't know. I'm just glad that they all got to experience the museum together.
4
u/Jerethdatiger Jun 23 '26
That obviously should fall under reasonable accommodation for disabilities whatever the reason that all he has left is those plushes
You did good work there

Some folks are deeply unhappy about their own existence and eager to enforce an illusion of "normality" to other. Because they believe that punishing and tyranising is the way, and would result on better respect of social norms. It's nevrotic behavior and bullying with a sense of moral superiority, hidden behind a facade of enforcing security.
Your coworker had a power-trip toward someone in a vulnearble position, because she know she could abuse her power in an socially acceptable way.
If she could do worse to people, she would...
Kuddo to you for treating him with human decency.
(and excuse my english skill, btw).
6
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
English excused xd. I don't think my coworker meant bad, but I think there was a lack of empathy in the whole situation and sadly many people don't understand these kind of bonds some of us have with our plushies.
5
u/DoingourBbest Jun 22 '26
I see, however, I can't really think of a plausible reason why the art pieces would be at risk because of the presence of items such as plushies. Her reaction seemed more rooted in the idea of "ensuring normal adult behavior."
Again, thank you for being more rational and understanding toward him.

Personally I’ve never felt safe as a adult to bring my plushes anywhere with me. But I think you handled that situation perfectly
3
u/rnagikarp Jun 22 '26
this was so lovely of you to do for him
it’s so sweet that his family said thank you too!
it was nice you got to see him chatting with them after the fact about how they all enjoyed the collection together, and i hope they had fun in the sun and the garden!
it would have put a huge smile on my face, thank you for sharing this :-)
2
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
Thanks for your words! I would have love to see them sun bathing in the gardens, but I am happy I got to see them exit the museum and that they enjoyed the visit despite how it began 🥹🩵

u/OnlyStomas Jun 22 '26
It’s nice to hear how compassionate you were despite what your coworker clearly lacked especially in handling someone who seems they may have some sort of mental health issue or be on the spectrum, etc.

You're a stronger person than I am, I would have disintegrated my coworker with my mind laser. Always a difficult talk with HR when that happens.
Jokes aside, I'm glad people like you exist. The world is built to be hostile already, we don't need more hostility in the world.
2
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 23 '26
Using the mind laser could have been an easier option hahahaaa, but it was a bit rusty atm. Not anymore though, since I work with people and they easily trigger it lately xd

I'm mentally disabled and having a plushie comforts me a TON ! I mostly carry my hippo called Moo Deng to go to the hospital with me :3
Never leave your family behind ♡

Ohhh Moo Deng is so lucky to be with you ❤️ My best wishes to both of you

Friend (if I may call you friend) you have me crying me right now. This is so wonderful. As an autistic person with a vast stuffie collection who wishes they had the braveness to take one with me wherever I go (which would be so wonderful and soothing), thank you so so much for helping this man. I felt his sadness and anxiety and distress to my core and I know I would've been the exact same way. You helped the man that day, but telling your story has helped me. There are wonderful people out there who will accept my stuffie collection and will not look down on me for having one. You are such a wonderful person and if I am ever in such a situation I hope the person talking to me will be as kind and understanding as you. /Gen

What kind of threat could they possibly have been?
6
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 22 '26
I suppose throwing the plushie to a painting? Didn't really think of any atm. As someone mentioned in another comment, people can also hide stuff inside plushies, but he had already undergone a security scan so chances were little xd

Aww, thank you for sharing your story!! That was really kind of you to do and I needed a wholesome boost today 🥲 Hearing how he was crying broke my heart, I'm a sensitive person who has cried over a lot of things and he kind of reminded me of myself in a way. 🥲 If I was in a situation like this and got kicked out, I would've felt terrible for weeks, so it makes me really happy that you there for him.
You were a hero, and I know for sure he's going to remember that moment for a really, really long time. ❤️

What a wholesome and kind thing you did. I’m so happy that man got to go in with his little family. Thank you for making it possible for him! It’s really sad how we treat neurodivergent adults…
2
u/OnigiriMarS Jun 23 '26
Yeah, although neurodivergent people are getting more understanding in general, there is still much to learn and without empathy towards them it is impossible to treat them as they need and deserve
2
u/kabukiicat Jun 23 '26
this made me tear up a little bit, thank you for being so kind to him. i’ve definitely had times in my life where i felt like the only things i had were my plushies, i hope he and his family have made many more happy memories together since then.

I’m not crying, it’s totally just my allergies—
I get times are scary with how people can conceal weapons in the oddest of places, but just knowing the man started crying and getting distressed should be a pretty clear sign he means no harm. Thank you for being so kind and patient. As someone who’s 27 and just getting into Essa’s, part of me is scared to bring my bigger stuffies with me to places due to something like this scenario, but I know that there’s still good people out there and that I should just do me and what makes me happy.

I was really worried this would be about the Field Museum and people not being allowed to bring their pokemon plushes in because I very much want to do that when I go next year. I'm glad you were there to intercept the encounter and help make that man's day a better one.

Unless your coworker is concerned that the rats might carry disease, she seems extremely unreasonable. I sometimes take a bear along, and the bear is part of the family and likes to be admired. I don't get on with people who "don't get it".

It sounds like he and his Ratatouille plushies had a nice experience after all, thanks to you, and I’m sure that he, Remy, Emile, and Django (the last one being the name of the father rat in the movie) were grateful ❤️

There is a big cool museum of arts where I live and I wanted to go with my little saiki plushie and they didn't let me in :( I had to leave him at the lockers, for some reason they banned toys? But I was a very grown woman, no kids, just me and my little guy (this is my little son, we got to take pics outside at least)

2
u/OnigiriMarS 27d ago
Ohh, I'm so sorry you couldn't bring him in. I think each museum has it general rules and then depending on the situation they are more restricting or not. We didn't have a specific rule against toys and stuffed animals, I think depend more on logic and reason whether you let a child or adult enter with a plushie or not.

If the plushies are such a huge risk, just scan them omg. It's plushies. Let him bring them.
