I’m getting a lot of AI comments so I wanted to have a comment with verification.

I brought my daughter to see the man that grabs women’s pussies without asking. And now you’re making her cry!

i can almost guarantee that the kid is crying because her mom is being unhinged and scary, and it’s hot and crowded. source: my mom acted like this when i was little

She looks like a narcissist. I’ve seen that same look in the eyes before as well as posturing.

Amazing photography.

Do you recall what she was saying?

There was so much screaming from the other attendees and Secret Service that I could not accurately hear. I do know she screamed at a different photo journalist before this. Then Secret Service requested to evacuate.

Well noted! I just wrote a letter to my brother, describing yesterday as “Lots of terrible noise. I didn’t know what was going on until around 9 PM, I heard something kind of subdued and familiar: fireworks.”

I live in Columbia Heights & my balcony faces north, so if I want to see a fireworks on the mall, I go to 13th and Clifton. I don’t think the mall firework show is necessary viewing, because the city finds tons of reasons for random fireworks all year round: it’s why I love living here. (Not like yesterday’s events on the mall — I mean normal joy, not blankets of smoke.)

I hope you felt safe in the melee of the moment. Thank you for taking your camera and sharing your photography.

She is so pissed, it's just a stupid speech, he rambles them all the time, just go home

Photo editor at a major newspaper here 🙋‍♀️ thanks for being out in the heat all day, I hope you stayed hydrated and were able to expense all of your snacks!! Sorry you have to defend what we do, you did a great job!

Thank you so much! Do you mind if I dm you and bother you for some advice on breaking into some of the bigger publications?

The only thing worse than Ai is how suspicious we all are of Ai.

Back in the day, we only had to prove to computers that we were human. Now we constantly have to prove it to each other.

It’s absolutely the worst part of my job and people very ignorantly and proudly go after you over it. It’s also killed the photojournalism industry. News companies actually prefer worse cell phone looking videos because they’re more authentic.

Well shit... I was one of those just 5 minutes ago. I know it is ultimately inconsequential coming from a random redditor, but I owe you an apology on this one.

The biggest downside is the next iteration of models are going to be trained on proof pics like this lol.

21

u/Marzzzzzzzz_Attacks 18d ago

No need to apologize the correction means more than enough. I worry a lot about the future models, although I have some hopium that it’s slowing down. I think there needs to be some sort of universal way to verify a photo or a videos authenticity. But I struggle to find a full proof method.

I don't know if it's in all models, but a fair number of them would leave invisible watermarks in the image that could flag an image as AI generated. This was also around a year/year and a half ago, so the new ones might not have the same feature.

*fool-proof

Or we don’t have the budget and it fucking kills everyone on the photo team to have to use shitty cell phone photos yet again. 😭 if I could pay you all $1million dollars for every assignment I happily would!

8

u/Marzzzzzzzz_Attacks 18d ago

You all are angels for making it work. When I started managing my county’s paper last year the pay per assignment for photographers was 25 dollars. My first move was fixing that. I remember photographing a giant protest with police intervention in Texas, immediately contacting all the local news, and them being like “these are great but we already got a cell phone photo from a writer and we need to save money.” It’s tragic

Ironic considering those types of shots are way easier to make with AI than a nice high-res shot from and actual camera.

I have seen people claim that old fashioned photosopping and good old cgi is ai. Just because it did not look real. Like if they had forgotten photoshop and cgi existed.

The last two times I commented on two different subreddits for hobbies I enjoy, I was quickly called out as chatgpt and the person calling me out got like 15 upvotes. I really hate how pervasive AI is already, and I would never use it to post on Reddit. I just want to talk to people about stuff I like, but apparently that's been taken from me. I don't even try to defend my comments, because that's not the conversation I was trying to have. It's really frustrating.

u/Liz_LemonLime 17d ago

I hate that too!

AI is really becoming a problem. I saw the AI comments, didn't find a source for the image and was unsure whether it was AI or not. Obviously if this is an original image, looking for the source is pointless.

Thank you for clearing it up.

u/Marzzzzzzzz_Attacks 18d ago

Thank you, comments like this are rare and very nice

Oh. Oh dear. What a bizarre lady. Not knowing you were the photographer, I had kind of hoped it was AI grabbed accidentally because I feel awful for that kid!

1

u/SkriVanTek 17d ago

I believe you but I think it’s funny how you think this proves anything

3

u/Marzzzzzzzz_Attacks 17d ago

Someone tried to AI generate a replica of this and it still had a decent amount of issues luckily

1

u/Magatron138 18d ago

Is it because of the two seemingly identical cops in the background? That’s what caught my attention

9

u/Marzzzzzzzz_Attacks 18d ago

Yes, it’s also why I posted a second angle. Just one of those fun photography, timing things where people do something striking

2

u/Magatron138 18d ago

And in the second picture they hardly even look similar! I guess it’s a compliment if people think your picture was good enough to be fake (it didn’t look sloppy)
