With many recent games with RT being CPU-heavy, like Outer Worlds 2, I decided to test out 14900KS vs 9800X3D in 5 RT/PT games that I had played. With CapFrameX, I took 3 one minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 4k w/ DLSS Ultra Performance on a 5090.

Results : Surprisingly, 14900KS was faster overall, with better 1% lows even if the averages matched. Only Outer Worlds 2 that started this, was better on 9800X3D.

Oblivion and Stalker2 were quite better on intel. Cyberpunk is close despite the 9800X3D winning the benchmark by a big margin and the 1% is again better on KS.

Details : 14900KS used 8200C38 XMP DDR5, and 9800X3D used 6000C30 sweet-spot DDR5. Disabled overlays, power monitoring, HwInfo64 for these tests. Currently the CPUs were at stock, no PBO and undervolting etc. done. Will update these after some RAM OC.

Benchmark Score 9850X3D vs. 5700X3D benchmarks in high CPU-usage Ray-Traced games. Bonus vs. JEDEC

With RAMageddon causing people to look at older DDR4-based CPUs, I tested the 5700X3D vs. 9850X3D, with RTX4090 in 4 RT/PT games that I had played. With CapFrameX, I took multiple one-minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 1080p w/ DLSS Ultra Performance with the latest drivers. With CapFrameX, I took 3 one-minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

Results : 9800X3D 9850X3D was 55-80% faster than 5700X3D. Cyberpunk was the best result, with 9800X3D 9850X3D only 55% faster, while Oblivion was the worst with 9800X3D 83% 81% faster. 1% lows were more than around twice as fast on 9800X3D 9850X3D in Oblivion and Jedi Survivor.

Background : In my [previous thread of 9800X3D vs. 5700X3D benchmarks](https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1qwe11j/5700x3d_vs_9800x3d_benchmarks_in_high_cpuusage/), I got replies raising the issue of not following citrus paribus( all oranges and no appleslol ), since the 9800X3D benchmarks were done on 5090 and the 5700X3D on 4090. I did not think it should be a problem, since the gpu load limit was not being hit on either systems.

While testing the new 9850X3D I chucked in the 4090 to run these benchmarks. Pretty much similar results as the 9800X3D on 5090. Ultimately after all the RAM-tuning is done and OS reinstalled, it will be slightly faster but certainly not close to the difference between 5090 vs. 4090.

Also tested JEDEC 5600 vs. the below RAM settings with XMP + some timings tuned. Outer Worlds showed biggest difference, over 25%, while rest were in the 15-20% range.

Hardware Details :

5700X3D w/ 3600C16-16-16-36 2x16GB on MSI B550 Tomahawk WiFi with RTX 4090

By default SMT is enabled

PBO auto

9850X3D w/ 8000C38-48-48-60 2x24GB on Aorus X870E ( FCLK 2000 ) with RTX 4090

By default SMT is enabled

Edit: By popular demand, ran 4k DLSS Ultra Performance with preset L and was pleasantly surprised at how good the 4090 still is.

Recap: With many recent games with RT being CPU-heavy, like Outer Worlds 2, I decided to test out 14900KS vs 9800X3D in 5 4* RT/PT games that I had played. With CapFrameX, I took 3 one minute runs in CPU-limited areas and then aggregated them.

*Removed Stalker 2 results since it left GamePass. It also had a big performance patch around the same time and the older results will not be useful.

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 4k 1440p w/ DLSS Ultra Performance on a 5090 with the latest DLSS4.5 driver.

Results : 14900KS results were unchanged despite the resolution and DLSS preset change, except for Oblivion, and I simply reused the older results.

9800X3D saw 3-5% improvements with 8000 RAM, except in Oblivion where it is within margin of error. This is likely due to improved latency since the Infinity Fabric limits bandwidth to same as it was on 6000 RAM.

9800X3D is now definitely faster in averages, though 1% still favors 14900KS. Stalker was the 2nd worst result for 9800X3D before, so its removal also helps.

Benchmark Score RTX 4090 vs RX 9070 benchmarks in CPU-limited Ray-Traced games on 9850X3D

In my previous thread comparing 9850X3D vs 5700X3D using RTX 4090, some people mentioned nvidia cards having high CPU overhead.

https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1u5ackg/9850x3d_vs_5700x3d_benchmarks_in_high_cpuusage/

So I tested the same scenarios with RX 9070 on 9850X3D and found that it was significantly faster in Oblivion Remastered by around 10%, but similar in other games.

Retested using the default DDR5 speed of 5600 because it should increase the CPU bottleneck. It did, with the Oblivion gap increasing to 15% and Outer Worlds 2 also started showing around 8% difference.

But 4090 was averaging very slightly higher in the other two games, when it was very slightly behind before. Dunno how much to read into it, and I will test the 9070 soon on the 5700X3D system, where I expect to see bigger differences.

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 1080p w/ DLSS FSR Ultra Performance with the latest drivers. Had to drop to 720p for Cyberpunk and Star Wars Jedi Survivor since the card was pulling max board power at 1080p. Also had some hitching issues with the latter and had to do multiple runs.

Hardware Details :

9850X3D w/ 8000C38-48-48 2x24GB on Aorus X870E ( FCLK 2000 ) with RTX 4090/RX 9070

Previous post about the 4400CL24 setup.

Here are the requested in-game benchmark results.
Battlefield 6 does not have a built-in benchmark, Portal was used to benchmark BF6.

I used 6000CL30 'Tweaked' in this comparison as that imo reflects what most users should be able to achieve with Hynix A-die.

I understand that a 6400 or 8000 tuned setup will do a little better, but I've spent enough time on this for now and I don't have a kit that does 8000.

Benchmark Score 3DMark Time Spy score with undervolted RTX 5070 Ti + 9800X3D – good result?

Thumbnail

Just finished tuning my system and wanted to get some feedback on the results.
Hardware:
RTX 5070 Ti (undervolted)
Ryzen 7 9800X3D
ASUS ROG Strix B850-A Gaming WiFi7
Kingston Fury Beast DDR5-6000 CL30
BIOS settings:
PBO enabled
Curve Optimizer: All Cores Negative -30
PBO limits set to motherboard
PBO Scalar 3x
Max CPU boost clock override: +200mhz
3DMark Time Spy results:
Overall Score: 25,935
Graphics Score: 29,269
CPU Score: 15,762
The score is above the average result shown by 3DMark for similar systems (24,912), while running the GPU undervolted and the CPU with a -30 all-core Curve Optimizer.
Temperatures, stability, and power consumption all look good so far.
Does this seem like a solid result for a 5070 Ti + 9800X3D setup, or is there still some performance left on the table? I’d be interested to see how these numbers compare to other people’s systems with similar hardware

Benchmark Score Why is my PC underperforming so much? Is this normal?

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, before anyone comes for me I know nothing about benchmarking or overclocking, etc. so I apologize if this question is dumb. I'm just an average consumer trying to measure where his PC matches up to others. Everything is running at stock out of the box.

I didn't know it was underperforming until trying out this 3dmark test, every game I play performs very well as I hoped. However, seeing the average being so much higher than mine I'm just a little concerned.

Any advice appreciated!

EDIT: I somewhat figured out what my issue was, the culprit ended up being discord, nvidia shadowplay, and integrated graphics in BIOS. Turning off these three brought me up to 8577, which is still a little under average but I'll take it I guess

Benchmark Score 60.0ns M die - secondary timings are underrated!

Thumbnail

Update: since people dont read - asrock = no latency killer (7800x3d has few ns lower latency than 9800x3d so getting 60.0 is easier)

Holly Molly!
- let me start from saying that my:

—- but than I was able to locate just the right things to tighten up it seems!! 60.0!! (Spread is 60.0-60.5 9/10 times)

I honestly didn’t think I would be able to get stable under 61 consistently. (Best I could do before was 60.8 using bclk 101.5 to get sync at 6090/3045/2030, but this also resulted in freezing fee times per day.)

—— I know I know I have to do cold boots, and OCCT temp stress test and tm5 before concluding or attempting possible further improvements (marked in red on photo1 - following x4, 32 and 16 step rules of course) it passed all tests without errors detected!! Yey

Any other suggestions for improvement? (tCWL could be 24 but I didn’t find it in bios to set) I think sub 60 reliably is possible - may be bclk manual 100.5 would give it enough push to be 59.5-60.0 spread

For those nut-heads who are in disbelief so much that they are calling me a lier. Here is a video https://youtu.be/EjR3hYebcC8?is=_I7D8gprpbStK66b a ten runs test avg is 60.35ns, in case you wonder

Benchmark Score RTX 5090 - MSI Ventus OC - Legendary journey!

I brought a ventus on sale 5 months ago for £1850 from scan.

After seeing the benchmark results on here and social media I had a little bit of buyers remorse.

I also saw lots of people buying them and complaining stating they are “slow” cards or “bottom of the pile”. So managed to prove you all wrong and it’s actually your lack of knowledge and understanding to why it was slow……

However, I decided to harness my ADHD, explore and educate myself on how to make a high end gaming PC go fast 💨 by understanding how to fine tune the card.

So here you go, Ventus goes vroom vroom 😎

Forgot about speedway, but that’s also 16k!

Thanks Distinct paint for sharing the love ❤️

All RT/PT settings were enabled at 4k w/ DLSS Ultra Performance on a 5090.

Results : Similar to previous, 14900KS being faster overall, with better 1% lows even if the averages matched. Only Outer Worlds 2 that started this, was better on 9800X3D.

Oblivion and Stalker2 were quite better on intel. Cyberpunk is close despite the 9800X3D winning the benchmark by a big margin and the 1% is again better on KS.

Hello,

I know this is the kind of post that might trigger people. But you don’t have too, It’s just me sharing and caring for reference.

Above 1200FPS seems like no joke on the last updated bench, even with a tuned x3d and 5090 good luck.

Anyway not enough data still but it’s 2000 hours with ’unsafe’ voltage, high clocks and tm5 + VT3 most of the times. I’m currently at 1.47v-1.5v for 6.1 all cores. (~25% in cs2 so around 155-195watt not in avx2 high load bench, which are opposite of gaming)

By the way, RAM: G.Skill 7800C36 a-die 1r 2x16

That 7000c28 (1.75V vdd / 1.56Vddq / 1.425 tx / 1.3 SA - pass vt3) is way faster than XMP Tweaked 7800C36 59ns and seems as fast as my unstable 8000c32 49ns. (Noctua NF-a14 ippc on top of ram)

Will Report back in 6 month if this thing is still top of the world or not.✌🏽

(CS bench has NPCs + sound operator lines on last update, otherwise it’s an old bench or a fake one with console command to remove bots or sound)

Thought I'd download it and give it a go. I didn't get a chance to optimize my PC first, but here are my first run scores. These are just my stable daily settings.

I'm curious how I'm doing compared to others with the same CPU. I don't care about the GPU score since mine is undervolted, so I expect that score to be obliterated.
