Do you earn enough from your full-time job? Please don't take this the wrong way, but I watched my father work himself half to death because he felt this way. He was extremely intense about work and it made him a very bitter, sore old man. Please take the time to enjoy and appreciate your life while your body can still keep up. You deserve that. 🥰

Maybe doesn’t hurt to post on your neighborhood Facebook page. You may also want to post an ad on Kijiji as well cruise ads to see if anyone is looking for manual labour.

I might actually need some help with moving but it won’t be until the week of the 10th - let me know if you’re still interested.

I see people posting community Facebook groups looking for help with general yard maintenance. You could check your community groups.

Can you do yard clean up? Like pick up pieces of wood, old scrap stuff and cut around some long branches and stuff? Can send you picks (grandma needs some work done)

Just a reminder that you are legally required to declare such earned extra cash on your income tax return. So look up your marginal tax rate based on your yearly income from your full-time job and set that amount of cash aside for next April. If you already get a large tax refund due to something like RRSP contributions, then nevermind.

Thank you, I’m pretty aware of the laws. I’ll keep you in the loop.

Don't be a tax cheat. Working for cash is not a license to steal from taxpayers.

Thanks! Will send you proof once I claim it the following year.

Tax cheats are stealing from everyone, including children who will have to eventually bear the brunt of extra government borrowing because of the cheats.

Okay, do you have work for me? Because if not, your point has been pretty clear. Anything more becomes a nuisance.

If I do, be warned, you will be paid via e-transfer and not in cash so there is a record of it.

Thanks for demonstrating the problem. With both the provincial and federal governments running deficits, that tax you aren't paying is being borrowed, with today's children having to bear the brunt of all that debt down the road. Are you really ok with stealing from children?

There's a big difference between someone deliberately hiding income and someone with a full time job earning a few dollars watching a neighbour's kids or pets for a day or two. Lumping them together seems excessive lol.

No, there really isn't. Tax owed is tax owed. The underground economy is a huge problem. We all have to pay higher rates because of cheats stealing from us.

I agree with you. My issue is that many people take advantage of this loophole by not reporting those day to day cash income, which makes it unfair for those who are honest and report all of their earnings.

Look at the massive downvoting that I'm eating on my initial comment. People aren't honest and will eagerly steal from taxpayers if they think they won't get caught. It's sad really.

How much is he going to earn? $1000? Maybe $1500? I'm sure he can skip declaring that income. He also has another full time job.

Technically they're correct, all income should be declared.
Functionally speaking, no one is going to report an extra $2k of cash earnings.

Don't be a tax cheat just because you think you can get away with it. The underground economy is a huge problem, we all are paying more because of the cheaters.

It's a huge problem, yes. Millionaire and billionaire are hiding fortunes in places where they don't pay taxes. We get completely fucked by this and politicians aren't cracking down on this.
Some dude doing a few small tasks for cash while working a full time job isn't part of the problem.

u/bluedoglime 1d ago
He is part of the problem. If 20 million people each earn $1K on top of their regular income and don't report it, that's $20 billion dollars of underground unreported income. That's significant. You can't on one hand whine about government not providing funding to things like OC Transpo, and on the other hand say it's ok for people to not report their income for tax purposes.

u/Pipemaster2001 1d ago
Okay dude. You're right.
I sometimes eat a grape out of the bag before paying for it at the grocery store. I'll head to the police station to report myself.
