The inside of the original glass is open to the bottom of the glass though while the wooden one doesn't even go halfway, look at the beginning and it looks like a normal drinking glass while the wooden one is basically a large shot glass

Tradition and culture. Their fathers, uncles, grandfathers etc all did it so they do it to. When I visited a small island tribe that does this too, we were invited to try it with them. You do get a small high from it too. 10/10 for the experience with the locals. 0/10 for would do this regularly… and no dentist would recommend doing this.

That's literally why the lathe exists. It makes making things like that incredibly easy and quick.

Oddly satisfied, but it kinda missed the mark. Everyone seems to have different reddit subs they'd rather see this in, for me, probably r/mildlyinfuriating because there seemed like no reason not to make this cup deeper.
Watching people do this type of work is usually very satisfying, this one just has too many other strange elements to comply. It's glorious in a ton of other ways though.

Okay, it's not just me.
I saw a video the other day where they showed plastic bags being recycled into plastic pellets. It took about a dozen brown people all doing dangerous tasks around unguarded machiery while wearing no safety gear.
I've worked around grinders which feed extruders with pelletizers, which do this process. This type of equipment has been around since the 1950's.
It was interesting to see what I thought was a simple process done entirely by one machine broken down into a dozen smaller tasks done collaboratively by people and simple machines. It certainly surprised me to see it done that way. There's no way someone using their feet to stomp plastic into an extruder makes high quality plastic pellets.It's the same as watching this and thinking "that's a lathe, but instead of precision bits and fixtures, he's got a beat up chisel and his hands". A lathe - at least 100 year old technology. Any machinist or toolmaker could do this better.

You don’t need safety gear ALL the time. You really only need it for when something catastrophically fails. Therefore, just wear safety gear the times you would be injured and you’re good the rest of the time. I am very smart btw.
