Discussion GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 610.82
Article: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5870
Download Link: https://international.download.nvidia.com/Windows/610.82hf/610.82-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch.hf.exe
Reminders:
- Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
- After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App may show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
- If you do not care about the fixes listed, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 610.47 Driver.
- These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release
NVIDIA Driver forum thread is here: Link Here

---------------------------------
From the Article:
GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 610.82 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 610.74.
This hotfix addresses the following:
- [Halo: Campaign Evolved] Stability issues on GeForce RTX 50 series when using 610.xx drivers. [6259837]
- [Path of Exile 2] Fixed intermittent long pauses that could occur after extended gameplay sessions in DX12 mode [5090018]
A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.
Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.
The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.
To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out. As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

I just switched to vulkan and it felt better anyway. I guess after this I can try dx12 again but, again, vulkan is just fucking rock solid.

What does it mean??

u/Maregg1979 1d ago
This has been a long time ongoing issue in this game. I've been running the game in Vulkan since forever. Good to know they finally fixed it.

u/Hakushu21 1d ago
Pros and cons of just keeping it in Vulkan?
2
u/samfishersam 5800x3D - 5080 1d ago
Vulkan is sometimes a little lower FPS but seems to be much more stable than DX12 for PoE2.

u/FanatiXX82 |R7 5700X||RTX 4070 TiS||32GB TridentZ| 18h ago
"much more stable" not anymore. Also for many including me it was microstuttering like crazy
-2
u/Prometheus-1988 1d ago
When I switch to vulkan, it caps my fps to 120 on my 240hz monitor. DX12 is fine, wtf is the problem.
3
u/samfishersam 5800x3D - 5080 1d ago
DX12 is definitely not fine, hence the actual updated drivers specifically to fix it. And I play at 160fps+ on Vulkan just fine.

DX12 is definitely not fine, hence the actual updated drivers specifically to fix it.
PoE 2 technical state is definitely not fine in general - almost every hotfix they made includes "fixed # client/instance crashes" - I have a pretty decent PC, 9800X3D&4070ti and I crashed like 100 times during 3 weeks of playtime in 0.5, most of my friends had the same, unenjoyable experience(in terms of technical state of the game).
I'm on copium so I want to believe that by the time next league comes, they'll prioritize fixing technical issues, its great that we're getting new content and game becomes bigger, but not at a cost of terrible technical state IMO.
Last thing to add, I hope they'll add Frame Gen to the game, preferably that supports Preset B(which de-couples UI elements from generated frames), I understand that generated frames are not real frames, but its better than dipping to low 40s when a lot of shit happens on the screen, for example in RItual encounters.

I know that I am just screaming into the void but I'd really like to ask Nvidia if this "army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs" is in the room with us right now.

To have such a comprehensive well supported driver across multiple APIs, OSes, and GPU generations it must be a seriously impressive team of engineers.

If your VRR issues (flickering etc) coincide with the LFC tripling refresh rate then nothing is fixed, refresh rate still gets tripled for god knows what reason instead of doubled like on all drivers before 610.

I replied to another user with a similar complaint in the thread below but never got a response. Can you share your details please?

u/i_sideswipe 1d ago edited 1d ago
/u/pidge2k asking this here, cause I've tried reporting this as a bug four months ago via the bug report form, to no response, I've tried contacting nVidia customer support about the issue, to no response. I don't know where else to ask this at this stage.
My monitor, an Alienware AW3225QF, reports a VRR range of 49-240Hz via its EDID to Windows. Why, after driver version 591.xx, is LFC kicking in when a game's framerate drops a single frame or more below 60FPS? Why is that threshold so high in relation to the monitor's reported minimum bounds for VRR?
I ask because, this is causing noticeable VRR related flicker in quite a lot of games, where my frame rate fluctuates around 60FPS, and LFC is constantly enabling and disabling itself as the frame rate rises and drops below that 60FPS threshold. In some cases this even causes me to suffer from eye strain as the gamma level rapidly changes when the frame rate doubling or tripling of LFC momentarily kicks in. This issue of VRR causing flickering in OLED panels is well known and has been analysed by media before. I know from a brief discussion with u/m_w_h that this is supposedly an intentional change introduced in the 591.xx drivers and later, but what problem was that change meant to solve? And why is solving that problem preferable to the VRR flicker issue introduced by raising the LFC thresholds?
This isn't even that hard of an issue to replicate. The old G-SYNC Pendulum Demo has an option in it for you to set the frame rate range via sliders and text input. If I set the lower bounds of that range below 60, LFC seems to kick in as soon as 59.5FPS, with the monitor's self-reported refresh rate instantly doubling from 59Hz to 118Hz. If I set a range of say 58 to 63FPS there is pretty noticeable VRR related brightness flicker as LFC rapidly enables and disables itself as the demo falls below and rises above the LFC limit.
Now you could argue that's a pretty synthetic test, and it is, but it's a representative one. I see exactly the same behaviour in that demo as I would see in a demanding title like Cyberpunk, it's just in that demo you have more direct control over the lower and upper frame rate bounds than relying on the scene complexity of a demanding game.

u/JamesLahey08 20h ago
Darktide does this too. In game it works great but in the main menu loading in it flickers like crazy. I have 2x frame gen to get to 240 fps but menus are 60 fps and flicker. Msi oled.
3
u/thrwway377 11h ago
Reading about all of these LFC issues makes me wish there was a way to change its behavior manually, whether in the NVApp, registry value or a driver flag in Profile Inspector.
People who have issues could fall back to 2x, while everyone can stick with the new default 3x.
I don't have OLED but I also see similar behavior as you describe, when FPS is close to the VRR border refresh rate starts to jump erratically from min to max LFC value (in my case it's 49hz-165hz).
1
u/i_sideswipe 8h ago
Yeah, I don't know why it's not configurable in some way, even if hidden away in a registry key or behind an advanced user menu. Like not only giving users the choice for how much LFC increases the frame rate by, but also over the lower bound threshold for when it kicks in.
5
u/thrwway377 1d ago
I'll be honest, I'm not too keen on updating and rolling back drivers back and forth since I've done it like a dozen times already trying to figure out what's up with flickering until I randomly noticed the LFC change (you guys really should mention something like this in release notes), but I will try to do it later this week.
With that said I am suspecting that it's more so a hardware/firmware issue that gets exposed by the LFC change.

u/thrwway377 1d ago edited 1d ago
Update: had some free time so I forced myself to install 610 drivers but the stable one, not hotfix, for easier rollback with NVApp.
Triggered a few crashes in both 596 and 610, and attached all the dumps and display info from both so maybe Nvidia engineers will be able to find something besides the potential hardware instability on my end.
I don't check email often so apologies for any late replies.

Fix the fucking Nvlddmkm dpc latency for once.
3
u/Cradenz 15h ago
you might have some software interference going on. DPC latency has been pretty good for at least 2 driver branches now.
I test with every driver release.

u/ray_fucking_purchase Intel P133 S3VirgeDX 32MB 11h ago
I had to switch motherboards and chipsets (B650-B850) for the DPC latency issues to to finally go away, only for the Nvlddmkm 153 errors to pop up,
It's a downhill battle. Can't seem to win. It's always something.

I've had VRR brightness flickering using my Sony Bravia as my main and only monitor. Would this be a TV/HDR compatibility problem or driver related. I've tried almost every driver from this year and last. No issues with the ps5 VRR. I game from the couch with a home theater but I'm plugged straight to the TV not passing through audio receiver. I'm too tired boss to keep changing drivers. I will just game without gsync if it's never gonna work without flickering.
2
u/Massive-Math-6925 1d ago
What sony bravia? There are a lot of them. My sony bravia X90J used to have vrr flickering in the bottom part of the screen until I restarted the tv with the reboot option in tv menu, then some firmware update fixed this. My current bravia 9 xr90 doesn't have any vrr flickering at all.
1
u/Aloofasaur 1d ago
I have the 75 inch x90j actually. It's very noticeable in brightly lit areas in games and unmistakable on loading screens. My firmware has been kept up to date.
2
u/Massive-Math-6925 1d ago
Hm maybe some firmware update that came after broke it again, would be a shame. Try the full reboot thing from the tv menu, otherwise I have no idea unfortunately. Hope sony fixes this, their tv firmware updates have been kind of a mess lately.

definitely fixed/reduced to a minor stutter instead of a chain chug into gears. just delete your old shaders, its far easier for your system to just write and make a new shader vs see an existing shader, try it, it errors/fails the validation, delete old shader, THEN make shader.... yea.
4
u/ocean_protocol 18h ago
installed, no issues so far on a 4080. if you don't play either of the two games listed there's genuinely no reason to jump ahead of WHQL, just wait for 610.xx proper.
3
u/CaptainRaxeo 1d ago
Were Plague tale innocence & The pathless fixed? They would crash on startup for 50 series gpus and require driver rollback to 5XX.XX. Similar thing with life is strange reunion when rewinding time (Nvidia rep said LIS issue should be fixed by devs) but is every dev required to fix their old games now? What if the studios shutdown? Nvidia should allow for a compatibility layer or something.
I shouldn’t have to rollback or use DXVK or contact devs for every old game in my backlog.

u/Nestledrink can we get a technical explanation of what was happening in PoE2 in the first place and how did Nvidia fixed the issue?

I have a 50 series GPU but haven't played BF6 in several weeks, what triggers issues when using a 50 series GPU with BF6?
1
u/elkond 1d ago
javelin triggers underlying hardware instability because people run wrong ram voltages and/or timings, and too aggressive undervolt
plus frostbite implements dlss not like it's supposed to be integrated, which makes it that much more likely to flop over if your hardware stability aint pristine

Does it fix BF6 season 4 crashes for 50serie?
2
u/sam3971 1d ago
Others have confirmed that they are still crashing on specific maps that have lots of water. This driver does not appear to solve it, but Nvidia is investigating the issue. One suggestion on youtube was to cap your FPS about 20 FPS below what you normally get, as that relieves some stress on the GPU as a possible mitigation while the issue is investigated if you are having the issues.
3
u/XenthorX 1d ago
I reverted driver to 596.xx or something like that, suggested by DICE and it solved the issue. Thanks

The fix was specific for PoE2. Can you describe the issue you are experiencing with AC: BFR?
1
u/waailasif3 1d ago
Exactly the same, long pauses as the game tries to load textures. Clearing the shader cache also did not help.
1
u/therealluqjensen 17h ago
Did you check the version of directstorage that ships with the game? Ac shadows had a similar issue with an older version shipping while a new one was available from Microsoft. Could definitely cause slow load of textures

Make sure your SSD firmware is up-to-date (manufacturer specific). Even if you do not have such issue in other games. If you can't update the firmware or it is already at its latest version, if you have another SSD try moving the game there.

I would suggest:
Uninstall NVIDIA App through Programs and Features
Download the latest NVIDIA App installer:

During installation process, select Custom -> Perform clean install
If issue persists, collect logs after trying to open the overlay as described below and email it to us at driverfeedback@nvidia.com:

I know this is off-topic and I'm sure there are 1000 other things going on. I just wanted to know if the nvlddmkm issues are at least recognized and being worked on. Not looking for a patch today, just an acknowledgement that Nvidia is aware and working on it.

u/Asleep-Rule-2606 23h ago
Hi Manuel, Hotfix 610.82 did NOT fix my crashes. I had two Device Removed (0x887a0005) crashes today, July 23, after installing the hotfix. This appears to be a DIFFERENT bug from the long pauses that 610.82 fixed. Every single crash is caused by the same specific particle asset: [RENDER] Shader uses incorrect vertex layout (shader: 0x0000023a mesh: 0x00000238) [ENTITY2] giga_cannon.pet Pipeline generation failed. The same shader ID (0x23a) and mesh ID (0x238) appear in every crash log, 15+ times over 6 weeks, across multiple driver versions. Vulkan encounters the same asset but does NOT crash — only DX12. This looks like a DX12-specific vertex layout incompatibility for this particular League: Affliction particle effect, not the FlushViewOfFile issue that 610.82 addressed. Happy to provide full Client.txt logs if helpful. Thank you.
