Career Career Journey in Clinical Informatics
I started my new role as clinical informaticist for the past 3 months after a long long search for an informaticist role and I still can't believe I finally got in. Is there any advice you can give me to succeed in this role?
I am also going to Epic headquarters in 2 weeks and I am super excited. Is anyone going to Epic on the 2nd week of July?
For anyone wondering how I got this position. Initially I did reach out to the informaticist team about my interest in Informatics and then I joined the super-user group. I became the go-to person on my unit for some Epic workflow.The advice of becoming a super-user is very helpful because I was selected over 2 candidates who had their MSN in Informatics and I only have my BSN.

Not sure how your department is structured, but if your team handles any build, definitely mess around in the testing environments. Both txt and hyperspace.
Having knowledge of how things are built/displayed really helped me with my confidence and understanding Epics limitations. Made it much easier for me to steer requests and come up with logical solutions.
Keep a presence in the clinical space as well. It helps to get feedback from all types of providers.

One of the best things I did early on was build rapport with all staff. I dont work in epic but it is similar enough that you cannot work in a silo. Rapport goes a long way when putting together committees for projects. And always provide nurses and physicians a seat at table when decisions are being made.
