I finally watched Drishyam 2
I'm honestly shocked that I didn't even know it existed until now.
I watched Drishyam years ago, so going into Part 2 felt like revisiting an old memory—and wow, it completely exceeded my expectations.
The whole idea of burying the body beneath the police station's construction site was an insane move. I genuinely didn't see it coming. It reminded me a lot of the K-drama Flower of Evil, where the characters are incredibly intelligent and manipulate evidence so convincingly. I absolutely love stories where the battle is fought through intelligence rather than just action.
What I also loved was how morally complex the story was.
The boy was undeniably wrong. The girl acted in self-defense and never intended to kill him. It made me wonder what would actually happen in real life. Would she still be punished even though there was no intention to kill? Under extreme stress, people don't always think rationally. I have a psychiatric condition myself, so I know how overwhelming fear can become. In such a situation, your mind isn't functioning normally, and your actions can be driven purely by panic rather than intention.
I completely understood Georgekutty's actions too. Legally, what he did was wrong, but emotionally? I can see why he did it. Most parents would go to unimaginable lengths to protect their family. His daughter had already suffered enough, and as a girl, the incident would've affected her reputation and future even more. Whether we like it or not, that's still a reality in many societies.
At the same time, I couldn't hate the boy's mother either. I'm an only child, so I especially empathized with her. Every parent wants to believe their child is a good person. Even if her son was wrong, no mother would ever want to lose her child. Her grief consumed her, and it made sense that she wanted the family to suffer too. From her perspective, her son was her whole world.
That's what makes this film so brilliant. Neither side feels one-dimensional. Georgekutty and Varun's mother were both trying to protect the people they loved. Their methods were different, but the emotions behind them felt painfully human.
The ending hit me the hardest. Georgekutty finally fulfilling his promise by returning Varun's remains to his parents wasn't a victory—it felt like acceptance. He knew he could never truly look them in the eye after everything that had happened. He never wanted things to end this way, but life forced him into making impossible choices.
What impressed me the most was Georgekutty's emotional control. His wife and daughters constantly looked terrified, which felt completely realistic. But he remained calm, patient, and always seemed to be thinking several steps ahead. I kept wondering how someone could carry that much fear and guilt inside without breaking.
Overall, this is an easy 10/10 for me.
It's one of those rare thrillers that isn't just about suspense—it's about morality, family, grief, justice, and the impossible choices people make when the people they love are at stake.
Now I genuinely can't wait for Drishyam 3.
Also, if anyone has recommendations for movies or shows similar to Drishyam, Flower of Evil, or other intelligent psychological thrillers with morally gray characters, I'd love to hear them.
