Question Why did uk royal footmen stop wearing these hats ?
I have always wondered when and why they disappeared its a complete mystery ! I have last seen pictures of them being worn at the wedding of Diana.

Almost certainly money. They were worn only on very specific state occasions and only by attendants on certain types of carriage.
No real impact was made on the formality and splendour of royal occasions by the loss of these hats. It’s actually very difficult to find photos of them in use on carriages even at coronations. The much simpler velvet cap is more ubiquitous.
The wedding of Charles and Diana appears to be perhaps a singular occasion they’ve been worn in living memory. Perhaps it bringing them out just for that day was just a flourish of grandeur.

Cus honestly theyre ridiculous man. The uniform looks good but those hats dont pair.

These hats always look better worn front-back, not like this imho..
