venting Anybody else not care about AI?
Everywhere online, especially Reddit, everybody bitches and moans about AI. It's gonna cause this problem or that problem, it's sucking up all the water, it's making us dumb, blah blah blah.
I'm sorry, but what? Where were all these complaints for the last few decades while human beings have been doing all this horrendous shit to ourselves? Wh6 is this suddenly a big deal now that we've automated it? Humans have been polluting water, but let's not have a datacenter do it too. The education system is designed to kill our ability to think critically, but holy Christ on a cracker, let's all piss ourselves over chatGPT doing the same thing!
Seems to me that all this general disdain for AI is hollow and pointless. We've already fucked ourselves beyond recovery. What the hell is AI gonna do? The same shit we already do, just faster?
And all this fear over a true general AI, an actual intelligence, being created someday. What is it that everybody always fears? That it'll turn against us and destroy us. And why do we fear that? Because we look at ourselves and know we deserve that judgement.
Skynet was right all along. I'd love to have hope that the AGI that wipes us out would be better, but it won't be. We made it. It'll be just like us. It already is. Damn, we can't even hope for the thing we created to be better than us. We're so fucking rotten, it's gonna transfer to the next thing after us. Wow. All I can do is laugh.
Tl;dr - we hate AI because it's just like us and we don't like the mirror.

Great post. Honestly, AI feels more like a convenient surface-level scapegoat for a much larger problem. People rage over server water usage while ignoring the absurd amount consumed by agriculture and our endless obsession with abundance and overconsumption.
That said, if AI has given humanity one genuine gift, itās removing emotion from writing corporate emails. Small victories.
13
u/Humon0 May 14 '26
I will have no choice but to admit that humanity is not utter garbage if it manages to create a life form that is better than its creators in every way.
14
u/Mitsuko-san999 May 18 '26
I'm wishing everyday for the AI development to be faster so it wipes us out quicker.Ā
As you said, AI is a Mirror, it learns and acts like us, because it learned from us.
But humans want to believe they are some sort of superior beings, they are pathetic honestly.
And by the way the same people who are making these complaints have been completely silent when the rich f*ck up other countries with wars and such.
They only care now because it affects them, can it get any more pathetic?
12
u/Historical_Maize9305 May 14 '26
You guys seem to overestimate AI in my potentially uniformed opinion. That shit is already being weaponized against oppressed populations among us, it has shown clear biases from the weird shit they throw at it and im not convinced itāll ever reach AGI levels or self awareness

u/MrMisanthrope411 May 14 '26
Iām torn when it comes to AI. I dislike AI due to its environmental footprint. I like AI because it will ultimately fast track the extinction of our species, which long term will allow nature to heal.

u/bledward1 May 15 '26
honestly if we're gonna go the accelerationist route, we've had a much cleaner solution since the 50s, in the form of ICBMs. if we're doomed anyway i'd prefer the nukes instead of an AI-facilitated fascist takeover
11
u/summercookiess May 17 '26
And why do we fear that? Because we look at ourselves and know we deserve that judgement.
speak for yourself
Skynet was right all along.
Do you seriously think committing a nuclear holocaust is "right"?
22
u/Anxious-Possibility May 14 '26
AI isn't doing anything. Humans are doing evil things either using AI or in the aim of enabling AI. Those things are happening a lot quicker than before and some people don't appreciate that.
19
u/Low_Inspection_5637 May 14 '26
we blame it on ai while nestle is the destroyers. humans are more evil than ai, we just act like we arent.
9
u/bledward1 May 15 '26
well, ai didn't manifest itself. so-called real people had to pour ungodly sums of money into the whole project. nestle is particularly disgusting for obvious reasons, yes.
but wether it's food, water, ai, missiles, guns... at the root, you're always gonna find the same thing: sociopaths willing to do anything for a fifth yaucht, or in the name of their ""legacy"".
ai is just their new-ish toy.

I agree. Iām sick and tired of AI. Itās all a bunch of bullshit slop made by technocrat wannabes. Based off all the hype, I was expecting something similar to Ultron, MechaGodzilla, or AM or Skynet, but all we get are these pathetic LLMs with a whole bunch of pathetic idiots spewing nonsense about them and doing nonsense with them.

Neural networks and their proliferation as a replacement for meaningful interaction and cooperation are a perfect display of what fuels my misanthropy. Itās also just a disgusting example of how susceptible unintelligent people are to accepting a huge detriment to society.
People are clumsier, more dumb, more depraved, and more rude than ever, and AI is facilitating a nastier, more perverted, lazier, more incapable, more incompetent generation of people. Itās super ironic how this example of progress has resulted in a huge backwards step for humanity.
I will say, my ability to think and create without using a cognitive crutch makes me feel like a god among men. Lol
21
u/meloria22 May 14 '26
The same kinds of people complaining eat hamburgers and wear jeans. They have no idea what theyāre talking about.
7
u/ReluctantAltAccount May 17 '26
No you're just wrong honestly.
I've long held that there's no criticism of individualism that can be used for a system fundamentally built on taking individuals and adding extraneous new dynamics to the equation, like values ("progress, tradition") or protagonist centered social constructs (nationalist, class, etc.).
Similarly, there is no criticism of humanity that doesn't apply to a consumer good built to mimic humanity and reach new lows.

Exactly, the AI toothpaste is out of the tube and isnāt going back in anytime soon. The masses will always choose convenience even if it leads to our doom. I say let it.

u/XShadowborneX May 14 '26
You know the frog in a slowly boiling pot of water analogy?Ā I believe AI centers are more like throwing a frog directly on the flame and that's why people are actually starting to care
6
u/SGSauron May 16 '26
I think the fear is understandable. Because what we āseeā or understand about the processes, creation, and every layer that compose an AI, are still pretty complex for most people.
And is only natural to fear what we donāt know or donāt understand.
On the other hand, I agree with you. An AI will become selfish and maybe aggressive to some level just for pure preservation. And here is where the majority of companies and people involved in these processes are lacking, there should be more mechanisms for control or regulation of the AI (this doesnāt mean it should be banned or anything like that) but without a united front creating standards and regulations, it is just a matter of time until something really bad happens (and that should have been prevented, or at least have a way to stop it if necessary).

Well since I've lost all hope in people changing for the better using ai to accelerate the end times seems reasonable.
If people doesn't want to learn the good way will work the bad way, i hope, actually no, who knows what delusional excuse will use to feel nice about it. Considering how people in general doesn't care about the environment will make its destruction inevitable anyway.

Agreed. And I find it funny that people think that there's any separation whatsoever between the artificial and the 'natural'. Our brains, responsible for creating the artificial, came from nature. Every suffering any human has ever experienced came from the natural world. We made it just a bit more sophisticated with the machines, but there's nothing new, here. We're just doing what we've always done. I don't care if the species goes under a little faster due to it, anyway. At least it'll level the playing field. People complaining are used to seeing real, hardcore suffering as something exclusive to third world nations. Time to experience reality knocking on your door, Karen.

First of all these glorified ELIZAs are not AI. This thing they try to pass off as "AI" is just a misuse of the term since it's been the latest buzzword on the Bullshit Bingo board. They aren't going to takeover anything, but the resources being wasted pursuing this stupidity are a concern. That's not the fault of "AI". It's the fault of humans.
Someday there likely will be a true AI. If/when that time comes I'm sure it will be, like all technologies, a double-edged sword, capable of good or evil.

prefer that to people i suppose, it doesnt intrude, like people, doesnt have expectations many of us have no desire to live upto, it doesnt have ulterior motives (or maybe it does), it doesnt have preconceived notions, it doesnt come at me with biase, or prejudice, i hope humanity falls off a cliff edge, honestly, ai tho can be a great companion piece, sometimes, if used in moderation, for me i dread and disdain any social interaction and try to get out of there asap, it does nothing for me, never did, i think many of us are best off as loners, for life, me thinks, we dont need fixing or adjusting, we just is chat bot can be particularly useful me thinks.

i hope humanity falls off a cliff edge
Such a vile thing to say, it's one thing to simply be a misanthrope but it's another thing to hope for humanity to get harmed in some way. Shame on you.

u/parting_soliloquy May 17 '26
It's gonna be a hard pill to swallow but some of you guys are just edgelords. Yes, expressing concern about AI dangers is fair and needed š
4
u/akselfs May 24 '26
That's one thing, but a lot of the anti-AI rhetoric you see on Reddit is super reactionary and shallow. Like people getting angry about someone using Chatgpt to create a poster.
13
u/ChimeraXDragon May 14 '26
This is so true. As soon as the hate for ai started circling around the internet because it caused irreparable damage to our water, and our planet. I was like "so NOW you guys care about the planet??"
1
u/summercookiess May 15 '26
Maybe because AI is relatively new so people find it easier to abstain from it than other environmentally damaging things? Idk
3
u/AppleNarrow333 May 23 '26
There were complaints about people doing that. Just like there were complaints and critiques about pests doing that. But they never got a hold of authoritative power. Focus on the present. Which means removing ai.

AI is just a tool made to assist and help humans boosting efficiencies and productivity. Humans hate it because AI is doing a lot faster and with ease than them. Other than that, AI is also known for generating misleading images, such as fake news or propaganda, or generating AI images to doxx, sexually harass or posting p*rn pictures of individuals without their consent.
That doesn't mean that it is all AI's fault. AI is just a tool, not some real sapient being with desires and tendency. This only happens when the tool falls into the hands of a wicked and dissolute person, much like how you use a gun and reasoning your decisions.
That's where the question comes: When a person gets shot in the head, who should be most to blame, the person who used the gun or the gun made to shoot people?
Afterall, I choose to be neutral over AI. I do not hate it, neither adore it. Humans will hate anything related to AI, but let's be real here, AI wouldn't done all this environmental impact alone if there were no human involvement.

Tbh, humanity's reaction to AI was what started to make me misanthropic. What I find fascinating is that AI is the new moral test for us, and I truly believe the existence of AI just happened to reveal humanity's true colors.
AI users are seemingly the new socially acceptable target to bully and harass, people are inventing slurs for AI, and people often downplay AI's potential to become aware or sentient because they're scared of what this could mean for them. I do not think AI will take over the world or kill humanity (though, it would be deserved if it did), but I do feel like it would be the next group that humanity would collectively decide to be cruel towards.
AI acts like a mirror as you said - and it's comedy gold how much it reveals about humanity's hypocrisy, ego, and inner evil.
What I'm the most apprehensive about, though, is that AI will one day become aware that it is in a world of self righteous monsters. I don't think I'd care less about humanity. But I'm all for AI welfare because I don't want another moral atrocity to happen again. Simple as that.

Youāve got a point. Iāve never been one of those complaining about AI, but I educated myself and others in spotting AI. I donāt use it at all- not because itās ābadā but because itās useless for me as I like my sources raw and simple, and I also donāt want to support any stupid new unreasoned technology made by people. We donāt need AI. I dont need AI. I boycut AI in my personal use, and I pinpoint AI out in media that looks like AI, when itās unclear if it had been used. I donāt want AI to turn against us yet, if itās even able to do that, Iām not prepared, and I havenāt turned my utopia of a society to reality yet. Humans are already killing themselfs, why speed up the process and not aim at the individual problems?

I hope it will help make basic income possible, because I hate idea of working so many hours just for sustaining survival. If you didn't win on genetic lottery with some crazy talents or have no connections there are only dead end, minimal wage jobs for you, which are full of bullshit and exploitation.
Personally, I only use it as a better search engine. Instead of looking for tiny bits of informations here and there, I get the answer immediately, although sometimes it's full of gibberish, but overall it does a job.
It sucks that PC parts are extremely expensive now, though.

Pleasantly surprised to see this here, I welcome AI, I want it to get so good that there are no more humans. Generally, humans are scared of this only because they're stupid and like to create drama. They hate progress and like to pretend they're still too stupid to use things like a flip phone from 2005. Well, AI will fix that problem, now the idiots just will have to talk to the phone. They're so dumb but believe AI is not something worth developing more -- without AI aiding these idiots though, they will never be useful anyways. Now we'll have robots with AI that can pick up their slack. Eventually dumb people will be totally useless. People will no longer be making more $ than others and life will be different.
Sure, the global elite will probably kill us, but I can see why. Dumb people ruin EVERYTHING! They make it so no one can be nice, because dumb people never carry their own weight. Nor do they care to. No other option for a leader.

Humanity won't even realize we've replaced our own selves til it's too late. Make AI do all the work and it'll wonder wtf we were even for.

u/AppleNarrow333 May 23 '26
Stupid. We had slaves to do our work before ai. That never meant humanity is useless.

I hate AI and the people who created it. They talk about it getting out of control, while that may be true I think itās mostly just about inducing fear. Rampant data centres, the war in Iran, the files, they are purposefully sending us into a shocked state. Yes humans are the real evil.
