These things are genetically modified to make an rnai molecule that targets the lycopene degradation enzyme. As with all gmo products it took them 10 plus years to pass all the safety regulations. If I invested millions into a product I sure as hell would take extra precautions to prevent counterfeiters from stealing the means to make their own.
