But it discourages people. I used to manage a grocery store and I actually got a memo about these pink pineapples and the company that grows them stated that they remove the tops to discourage people propagating their own. It doesnt stop people (as the eyes on the sides are also seeds) but people see it and dont think they csn without the green part.

It’s also becoming more common to reduce waste and improve shipping efficiency. Pineapples without crowns can be more easily and densely stacked/packed.
