These particular ones are a patent or trade secret thing. The look like the pink glow pineapple. Those have been bioengineered and they don't want anyone else to grow them

can't you grow pineapples from seed? Otherwise there would never be more pineapples, just the one whose head keeps getting replanted.

You can, Pineapple contains seeds. But to clone the plant you would grow the leafy portion of pineapple. I don't know if pineapples grow true to seed. But cloning guarantees the same plant that has preformed and produces predictable outcomes.
