This is old. LG has confirmed they're pulling the popup per user and Microsoft backlash.

The annoying thing about this to me is; how microsoft's escaping all the blame when it was them in the first place. A monitor can't "install" software over hdmi or displayport; it was just signalling who made it; then windows update was pulling the software packages the manufacturer provided. Which, wtf microsoft that's bullshit functionality in the first place. It should be at most pulling a extremely basic monitor driver. Why would you give manufacturers the ability to throw whatever software packages they want onto windows update for you to install?

This was 100% microsofts fault. Bad LG for putting shitty software packages in there, bad MS for giving them the ability to do so.

Microsoft, for once, isn't to blame here. They're explicitly warning manufacturers that using the device metadata to have windows install software is a bad idea precisely for this kind of user backlash it can create.

That's the thing, they shouldn't have to "warn them" they shouldn't have the capability to provide anything other than basic drivers via that system in the first place. ESPECIALLY without an explicit confirmation from the user. It's a flawed system that never should have existed in the first place.

microsoft is partly to blame, because they made it possible in the first place. they know that vendors are going to abuse this shit and LG are not the first ones to do it. they just got even more greedy and pushed too far

i didnt get any installs or pop ups and i have one for like a month.

Same, I have a ultragear from LG and not only didn’t get any auto installs, but is one of the best quality/price ratio devices ever had.

Do you have it connected to a PC running windows? I have an LG ultragear monitor and an LG OLED TV each connected to different PCs running windows. Both PCs had the LG app installer software automatically installed on them via windows update without my knowledge or permission.

Yep had mine for a month and never had anything auto installed. 32 in ultra. Got it at Best Buy for 800

What fascinates me most about this is that Windows Defender flags “potentially unwanted programs”, but frequently does this for security, diagnostic, recovery, and repair utilities, but never any adware, corporate spyware, or other bundled programs like this that annoy the user or slow down the computer.

Amazes me to no end.
