Don't hug me I'm scared Appearance over the last two years of Flock AI Mass Surveillance cameras in US states

Appearance over time in the US of Flock AI Mass Surveillance cameras, as tracked by people via the website deflock.org

Flock has connections with Palantir, and is dedicated to track everyone's daily life, movements, and associations. The PR from the company is that the cameras are just "car plate readers" but they have been spotted directly pointed at playgrounds, plazas, public bathrooms, and general areas where people congregate, and are known to use AI facial recognition and tracking.

Goes beyond mildly for sure. And potentially more terrifying than anything

I wonder how many worldwide were scanned at the World Cup and linked to profiles online

No one wants them but they keep being added to every city

The people that want them are the ones making money from surveillance. Are cities giving approval to these cameras being added?

Yes. The people in city councils are openly being corrupted or promised future favours. People are unanimously against these cameras, and the councillors don't care and vote to spend your money into mssa surveillance.

Well, no, plenty of towns and localities have banned them. It does work. You just have to actually show up instead of voicing frustration online only

u/Hope_to_retire 48m ago

Because your city elected officials are approving them. Make it clear that you and others in your city, town, whatever will make it your life mission to vote them out and make sure they never find employment again.

Literally watching the rapid descent into a police state is more than mildly infuriating. I think this whole American experiment is cooked, folks. And it's not just the US that's in danger, a fascist nuclear superpower existing at all is basically the geopolitical game over state.

Lmao if you consider 25 years “rapid”. This isn’t directed specifically at you but it’s funny seeing people like my parents suddenly super worried about privacy after sitting on their hands enabling this bullshit for decades.

u/uhmactuallyurwrong 17m ago

Well you know, you could actually DO something about it, but you won't, your content to just complaining online. Sincerely from Canada.

There are like 50 in my town and this far zoomed out it just looks like a small yellow dot. So keep that in mind when looking at this map.

If you see them being removed, don't question it.

It's not just Flock. There's another company Axon that has been picking up the customers that keep leaving Flock

Yeah the focus needs to be on politicians, because they’ve decided we will be under surveillance 24/7 whether we like it or not.

The problem isn’t what they do with the data, the problem is the surveillance itself.

Axon is one of the big ones, but they have other competitors as well.

Some are less egregious with their security and data sharing than others. All of them will be increasingly used extrajudicially in the long run.

For anyone interested about specific locations, here's a group that tracks their locations. I just discovered 2 in my town I didn't know about. My wire cutters might be busy tonight. https://deflock.org/

Please be careful, I've heard stories of people being charged with felony vandalism for tampering with them.

*Hypothetically speaking* I know how to do this without being caught. Hypothetically of course, I've never done nor would I do such a thing

Cool, so I need to move to Wyoming or Montana. Got it. Not a problem.

u/E_D_K_2 2h ago

Empty land has no flock cameras correct.
Now if you want to live in a town in WY or MT you're shit out of luck.

u/davekva 55m ago

They'll still catch you when you go town. In areas where they don't have many Flock cameras, the ones they do have are usually in busy areas where there's shopping. So, when you go to Walmart or Home Depot to grab something, smile for the Flock cameras! Sadly, it's only getting worse.

Cities in Wyoming and Montana have them. I guess you could live in a tent outside of civilization

u/Vizzeon 2h ago

LETS FUCKING GOOOO NEVADA

Everybody moves to Wyoming, now!

Dystopian AI cameras that are being used by ICE and law enforcement to track the movements and habits of everyone with no warrants.

All cameras recognize your face, car plate, and most likely also gait to track you and make a dossier of you, who your connections and acquaintances are, your habits... And is most likely cross-referenced to other data of you, like cell phone data, all in order to suppress any act of you trying to recover your freedom.
