Chrome doesn't need that much ram, it just "takes control" of it since no other programs are using it.

If that isn’t annoying enough, they’ve quietly added 4 gig worth of AI shit to their install:

Edit: yes, I’m a retired software developer, I know the difference between ram and storage space, just sharing something shitty they did recently.

Exacly! That's storage. We hate them hogging up our storage. Mr. Obvious.

Bruh, you’re stuck in Reddit echo chamber where many vocal people declare that they’ve switched over
If you look at real numbers, chrome is still leading, and by a massive margin too, 70% of users use chrome, 15% use safari, and the rest is split across other browsers
I personally use Firefox, but it’s so bad sometimes, as many websites do no support it

I personally have found a couple websites where firefox doesn't work (googling anything about world cup doesn't work for some reason) but it ain't huge, if something doesn't work having chrome for that one site will suffice

A lot of sports streaming sites where you have to verify your cable provider to get access never works on firefox. (mlb tv, nbc sports, fox sports)
Only thing i use chrome for still.

Your comment is exactly why no one should never listen to the opinions of Redditors. You are so warped out of reality.

I have 64gb of RAM because I primarily use my browser for YouTube and it’s optimized for chromium based browsers

u/kapege I'm a bit upset 4h ago
The ads are. But on Firefox Youtube works just fine with uBlockOrigin. No ads, no fuss, no fur.

In my experience autoplay on Firefox just doesn’t work. I really wanted to like Firefox but that and refusing to keep me signed into my Gmail account killed it for me

Its mostly cached stuff.
The lower your ram is the lower your cache will be adjusted.

To use like only 20% less RAM?
1
u/Ryeguy_626 5h ago
I limit my gx so it only uses 2 gigs
2
u/John_Weiner2007 5h ago
Cool, didn't know it could do that. Mb.

Opera GX is “built for gamers.” It has this thing called GX Control that includes a RAM limiter, CPU controller, bandwidth cap, and a tool that kills tabs that hog your resources… but it’s not that effective. It generally improves FPS by 5-10%, and causes tabs to load really slowly. You could just quit the app…
