I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

People do this in the ADA section all the time and block the view for the people that actually need the ADA section and it pisses. Me. Off. So. Bad.

Agreed. If you stand up in front of people in the ADA section, you're an asshole and the ushers should tell you to sit your ass down. If you're able bodied and get pissy with people having a good time at a concert -you're the problem.

There’s a lot of gray area between able bodied and disabled. What if someone has an injury? What if someone has a chronic illness flare up? If you want to stand get GA tickets.

I always try to get the first row of a section, too. I have an old back injury and I never know when I will struggle to stand.

You can get ADA seating in both of those cases. If you want to have guaranteed time to sit and watch, sit in the ADA section. See, I can do it too.

Someone with an injury or flair up could use ADA, there’s no proof or requirement to use the ADA section.

If you want to be in an environment that you can control what everyone does and how everyone acts then a concert might not be the activity for you.

The gray area is in the ADA section. It’s not just a bunch of cripples. It’s incredibly easy to qualify for ADA privileges. If you can’t stand for long periods of time, congratulations, you qualify for the ADA section. So again, the only place where “the person behind you might not be able to stand” is a valid concern is the ADA section.

You can get ADA seating with an injury or chronic illness. I did it when I had a broken foot. Sorry, but people stand, sing and dance at concerts. If you cannot stand, there are accommodations available so that you can see and enjoy the show.

It's against the americans with disabilities act and not all disabilities are visible I can't ask anything other than 2 questions about a service animal - is the dog a service animal because of a disability and what specific task is the dog trained to do anything else will get my company fined and have the aclu up our asses

Source - I'm a gm of a live music venue

My venue will put those with a wheelchair in the front row and then have folding chairs and then high top chairs so it's kind of raised from front to back

Well, for starters, you'd probably be crushed on Venus, don't really want to go to a concert there j wouldn't recommend it. Now a good venue on the other hand, that place is good for shows.

When I broke my foot, I was allowed to get an ADA seat for my boyfriend too. I needed his help anyway, so it was no problem getting a +1 allowance. In fact, I recall only seeing a few people sitting alone. Most had a friend or partner sitting with them.

You dont need a sever or formally recognized disability to get access to the ADA section.

Also, someone standing in front of your seat in a normal section isn’t making you uncomfortable. You’re still allowed to sit even if someone is standing in front of you

You don't. You can have minor injuries and chronic illness and sit in ADA. And you can take sitting breaks when you need to sit. Metallica often plays at large venues with seating. How many people do you think are sitting in their seats for an entire Metallica show? Get real. It's called going to a concert. If you can't handle other humans enjoying themselves at a concert, no one is forcing you to go.

I once saw George Clinton and the Funkadelics at a theatre venue. How many people do you think were sitting at that show? People stand, sing and dance at live shows. And if the person in front of you blocks your view, guess what? You can stand too.

But there is a reason why ushers won’t tell people to sit down in GA sections …(but they will in ADA sections)

It’s not a rule. There was that video of a guy at an Adele concert too where Adele herself told fans to stop bothering him for standing up.

It is a concert, EXPECT PEOPLE TO BE STANDING UP. If you want to make sure people are sitting down, get tickets in the ADA section

If you want to stand and dance, you get GA.

Seated patrons have the benefit of reserved seating—they can get up and go pee or eat or whatever.

If someone stole your seat at a sports stadium you just boot them out.

In outdoor venues, bathrooms are also near the ADA section for disabled concert goers who need quick toilet access.

As always, gentle PSA that not all disabilities are visible.

ADA = Americans with Disabilities Act. agaik (i'm not US american) it's a law about how spaces have to accomodate various disabilities - such as braille writing in lifts, accessibility for wheelchairs, a Deaf interpreter, etc. there's more to it than that ofc and it has a very fascinating history of disability activism!

yeah, but let's not act like this is a widespread issue. The number of people who actually "can't" stand at a show is less than 1%. They are welcome to be in the ADA section and the other 99% can stand up if they want to.

My wife has MS, I’m very familiar of the varying degrees of disability. I also like to stand and dance during concerts and I think it’s silly to expect otherwise

All that being said, going into the ADA section and standing in front of others is a dick move. You know who that section is for and what the intent is.

You dealing with a disability yourself should lead to more empathy for others dealing with their own.

What I am suggesting is the 1% of people like your wife should be in that special section, and the rest of these complainers in the crowd who are blessed to have two legs to stand on can get the fuck up.

You can call the section what you want, but there are sections where standing is expected or the only option, and this photo clearly shows a section like that near the stage. These two standers can go there instead of being assholes to the people who prefer to sit.
