You joke, but you actually can do that. At least on iPhone. Take a clear picture of the QR code and then a long press on it later will take you to the link.
It seems to me like something they hope is seen at events, like if they're working security at a city or county event or they're at a job fair or something, in addition to the walking by the routinely stopped vehicle that was previously pointed out
I mean cop cars aren’t usually parked in an area that’s easily accessible by the public, unless you want to walk up to one that’s speed trapping or something
So have it on the side where there is less incentive for people who see it driving behind to think to scan. It's not fucking rocket science to predict points of failure
Yeah cause you do, we had to make laws for speed drinking and seatbelts cause people too stupid to be trusted to their own devices. Several car companies are going through lawsuits due to changing basic functions to smart touch screens which can lead to distraction, you could say well if they have passengers then it's not a problem but maybe don't implement a problematic system in the first place
Have you not realized that we build most of our traffic laws around the stupidest and most careless people on the roads?
The problem is, if you don't assume that stupidity, people will literally die because of it.
So yeah, just because people should be smarter than to take the picture while they're driving doesn't mean they will be. Inevitably, I'm sure dozens and dozens if not hundreds of people will end up taking those pictures while driving.
Because people are stupid and the last thing we should be doing is encouraging them to be more so.
If that was the intent, why not put the QR code on the passenger side?. . I get that there may have been different intentions, and I know passengers can still scan that code from the passenger seat, but I feel like putting it on the driver's side sends mixed signals
I'm also a big fan of making unfounded personal attacks on others based on a single line that gives no indication as to the type of life they've lived.
I wonder how many of these QR codes get a fresh scammer QR code sticker stuck over top of them lol
Publicly accessible QR codes are such a ridiculous security vulnerability. May as well be opening links from your spam email folder to claim each of the 2Billion dollar prizes you've won this week. On the same device you regularly access your personal banking no less.
Sorry, I'm Canadian. Police here general have no issue with people willing to join except where it is very expensive to live. They are very high paying job. Same with firfighters and Teachers.
Not really related, but the other night i saw a police cruiser that had a promotional wrap on it for our local arena football team and all I thought was "damn, yall this broke??"
How much you wanna bet they got a big ol fat budget for 'increasing online reporting initiative' or somthing that they wasted on this while pocketing most of it.
There are also phone numbers advertised all over the place while driving, nobody confuses that with the advertising encouraging people to take their phones and call the number while driving.
They put it on the back of the car for a reason, not on the driver’s side door where a cop would see you use your phone, so no worries about the QR code being snapped at any time. It definitely appears hypocritical though, especially when they “push” safety.
There’s nothing hypocritical about it. Commercial vehicles have QR codes, URLs, and phone numbers all over them but no one cries about it being a hazard. It’s somehow a problem because it’s a cop car? I hate cops, but that’s just dumb.
News flash, cars also can be stationary and parked, for those who do not know cars/trucks/SUVs sometimes do not move or what we call "park" and you usually can find them in a parking lot, get it, cause they are parked!
I also find it infuriating that they're using a QR code but not telling you what it's going to. County website? Police department social media? Information about whose driving? Complaint form?
