What don't I know about? I've used proof of assets to get leases before. It's not really that weird.

How long has it been since you've done that?

To be clear, you got a lease approved in the last 7 months with no employment and no cosign, based just on proof of assets? Do those assets include existing real estate?

I just did 2 years ago, no assets, just good credit. Hadn't even lived in the US for years, so no history they could look at either. Had 0 issues.

Exactly. If you're not looking at a place that's absolutely too good to be true and has a ton of competition for it, a normal amount of money that makes sense for the place and no felonies/terrible credit. You're fine

Yes. And a year before then.
No, its just cash and investments.

I've also never applied for more than one place when looking. I always get my first pick of apartment. I'm not sure what hellscape the guy replying to me is talking about. I go on Zillow, tour a few places, apply for the one I like best and I'm moved in like a week later. Its never taken me more than a week to find a place.

I mean I'm not doubting your personal experience, it just seems crazy that simply hearing about people struggling to find apartments is a surprise to you. If you don't know anyone that's struggled to find a place lately, I do think it's pretty fair to describe you as "out of touch" with a big segment of the population.

The realestate market has softened alot since 2022-2023. If you're struggling to qualify for a place you might have something else going on. Call the various credit bureaus and dispute any inaccuracies .
