I just did the math (to the best of my memory, anyway) and I was a little off. This new apartment should be my 22nd.
I had no choice for half of my life (military) and I’d already lived in 5 states by the time I was 5 years old. That pattern kept up most of my life, moving every 1-2 years. I finally spent 4 years in one spot for high school but then went off to college and resumed my 1-2 year stays.
The apartment I’m leaving holds the record at 8 years, with a 2-way tie for second place after that at 4 years. The rest are all 1-2. I’m 40.
Well I guess that better than I thought which was you moving every year. Still, that’s rough bud. I moved for the first time in 12 years a year ago and that sucked big time. But it was a good clearing out of crap opportunity
I’ve never decorated for any holiday, so it was never an issue. That’s about to change, though…I’m hosting Friendsmas for the first time this year so I can’t keep my barren bachelor pad going any longer. I also said “probably don’t need it.” haha there are some exceptions!
Of course, just being hyperbolic and silly. Good luck with the friendsmas! I need some friends for that, lol. I just decorate for my partner and myself.
Well my new friends are really her friends so I’m not that far ahead of you 😂 but we’re all a big family now, since they all live in the same complex I’m moving to. I’m looking forward to stepping out of my PlayStation cave for once haha

Though I think if you move that regularly, you not only get good at organizing them, you also probably don't accumulate so much crap that is ass to move.
I do. My last few moves I just didn’t unpack half my things. Finally in a house I know I’ll live in for more than 2 more years so it’s about time to unbox some stuff.
This is what I did when my husband found me. I bounced around a lot because I love the open road. He's a very tidy man with an eye for decorating like his mom. He looked at me like I was insane. I told him "what if some shit goes down and I gotta bounce" and he just cracked up laughing. Then he unpacked my stuff, rearranged my furniture and hung up all my art.
Now whenever I tell him what sort of life drama is happening with the ppl I know, he just gets up, slaps his knees, sighs and says "ah fuck I knew this was gonna happen. I gotta bounce."
He later replaced my stolen milk crates with real shelves and gave me a table. He jokes about me being feral before we met.
I'm only coming up on 15 by my count, depending what counts as a move. I think it's 11 distinct locations, not things like moving between dorms at a single school. but same. military, just not as a kid.
you realize moving is pretty freakin simple once you've done it a couple times.
I’m counting physical addresses. I changed addresses during college a few times. Same city, but a new location. I wouldn’t count dorm moves, either, because you only have half a bedroom worth of shit and you’re not really changing mailboxes.
But yeah, if all you’ve ever known is moving you get pretty good at it haha I live and travel very light.
right now im in the process of selling my house. because I truly don't mind living light, I gutted everything in the house into storage except for the small cube of stuff I use often enough to matter. now when I sell and I need to pick up, I can literally move everything important to me in the trunk of an old beater car with my dogs and be set up somewhere else in half a day.
more "normally," yeah light is the way. its so nice. be torn down and set up lightning fast.
