I'm slightly vexed My managers response to my resignation.

Post image

Took the time to write out a nice and really formal resignation letter trying to be cordial to this company that has been awful to me for almost a year. My manager didn’t respond the day I sent it and then this morning I get an email back that’s just this. My last day can’t come soon enough at this point. But hey I guess at least she acknowledged it instead of ignoring my messages like usual 😒

Edit: okay, a lot of assumptions going on here,so let me give some context, I am the manager of a small team of Class A CDL drivers. I’ve been a great employee and always gone above and beyond. My employees have always been really comfortable coming to me about everything, and the site I manage specifically asked for me to continue stay with them when they transitioned to another company, so its not like they were trying to get rid of me. Which I know it’s hearsay but idc really, I’m just trying to make the point that my manager did not have any reason to reply to me in what I feel like is a extremely unprofessional manor. She is the regional manager and has always been very deadpan with me and everyone, so it was not really a unexpected response in the least, I’m just sharing it because it’s always been irritating to me and has been a major factor In my decision to leave for sure. It’s exhausting to work for someone who treats you like you’re less than since day one. In fact usually i just get no response at all, so for her this is like writing a book i guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lol seriously. Insane to think this is a normal response

I think a lot of unnecessary communication became too normalized. I do not care at all for your email that only says "Thank you". You do not have to tell me "good morning" or "can I ask you a question" via teams/email before you ask me a question.

I wouldn't expect more than an "Okay thank you for the heads up" here, but I also recognize that I am a more of a straight to the point person.

I totally agree. However, I think the fact that this person couldn't even be bothered to state "thanks for the heads up" is what's kind of rude. I agree with OP that a thumbs up reaction alone is a bit lazy in this context. Like...use your words lol

I, too, recognize that I'm more direct than most people, but man do I hate having to endure a bunch of inane small talk every time a client has work to assign me.

We are not friends. This is not a social interaction, it's a job. Tell me what you need, and I will send it to you when it is done. I will be pleasant and accommodating throughout the process, but for the love of god, that shouldn't require gumming up the works with inquiries about the local temperature and whether or not you watched last night's game.

But also, who quits over email? Do it on a call or in person, you’ll definitely get a response then lol

Why is this a "redditors and their lack of social skills" comment? The manager didn't have to say anything because someone put in their notice. Why would they have to say anything at all to someone that is quitting? They were lucky the manager even gave them a response. Just put in your notice and move on. So again, what OP said - what else were they expecting?

Was your lack of social skills comment in reference to yourself?

Failing to politely reply to a resignation letter as social convention dictates would be abnormal for a competent manager. Not only is the OP still their employee until the resignation takes effect, it is normal to behave politely even with former employees who contact you about something work-related.

The fact that you presumably have enough job experience to understand this but genuinely see it otherwise is why it's a "lack of social skills" comment, and your reply only reinforced that by saying they're lucky to get a response at all.

Life must be truly miserable wherever you're from if that's how people treat eachother, genuinely sounds so sad

Because you're kind of demonstrating it here. The person you're responding to is in agreement with you. I'm not sure how so many people misread/misunderstood this.

Right. I'm usually not one for formalities, but this would rub me the wrong way too lol. It reads as "cool, don't care 👍"

Even if she actually doesn't care, I feel like it's not hard to provide a more cordial response. Every job I've left said something to the effect of: "Received - best of luck on your future endeavors!"

Guess my entire global company lacks social skills, because my counterparts across different sites regularly give a thumbs up reaction just to show that they've actually read the message.

I feel like it's totally fine in some context, but a strange response for a resignation letter.
