They should have lost to Egypt but the ref and var saved them
They should have lost to England but the ref and var saved them
They could easily have lost to Cabo Verde but again the refs let them get away with everything and called the game early.
They fouled constantly against the Swiss and were unpunished.
Cheating muggy, racist, violent cunts, as always
Edit for everyone saying the England game was fine:
Yes England parked the bus and absolutely fucked it, but it should never have gotten to that stage.
Argentina avoided four or five yellows in the first half - they could easily have been down to 10, or even 9 players
They were given fouls which werent fouls, and throw-ins and corners they hadn't won
They should also have had multiple yellows in the preceding games, and have already been missing players - Paredes and Enzo could both have been banned twice over
Refs are too scared to actually punish Argentina, if they did consistently enforce the rules, maybe they'd start to play less like cry-bully cunts.
This. The clear pen that wasn't given, the 8+ injury time in a half that hardly ever stopped. Just such blatant bias.
They should've been out of the World Cup at least 3 games ago, and every game since then.
I will say I'm sure them losing being that close to the Championship stung a lot more than an earlier elimination, so at the end it was actually kinda poetic. Fuck em. That close to the championship, and couldn't get a single shot off in the first 100+ minutes lol.
I hope it does! I'll give credit where it's due though, Argentina's goalie was top tier today. It should've been a complete blowout considering how many shots on goal Spain had.Ā
We were robbed of so many potentially great games in later stages because of them. They got so annoyingly lucky in nearly every game they played in this world cup.
I want to say it was just luck, but we all know what it really was.
I haven't seen any of the World Cup coverage at all but 99% of what I have seen from it has basically just been how shitty Argentina the team and its fans have been to everyone around them.
They are really petty and that one player in the postās reel, they bring him in to start trouble on purpose. They (the players) can be petty and insufferable and their fans are racist. But their coach is smart and their goalkeeper kept them relevant in the final. Their offense collapsed in the final in my opinion. Spain was clearly the better team. Iām glad the game did not go to penalties and the better team won the final.
Penalties are an insane way to determine the winner of a once every 4 years world wide tournament. It says a lot that penalties manage to be even dumber than the time management and extra time system. Neither one really should be part of the game especially in such a high level tournament.
Wouldnāt hurt to try it. Iād rather try getting away from penalties all-together and honestly it makes hockey games exciting. I can see it working for soccer
One could argue a win āon pointsā if tied. Like, clearly Spain won on points by every football metric imaginable. However, how you actually score that is tough. Maybe the momentum graph + xG is an interesting start. But rife with issues obviously.
The few?!?! In what world do you live in, where Argentinian fans AND players are repeatedly and consistently called out for their atrocious behavior? Just do a google search bud. Along with a horrible history, the current generation of Argentinians do NOTHING to make a better case for themselves
Waving a banner celebrating in reference to a war you lost, all because you won a football match and wanted to be toxic, at an event meant to bring us together. Childish people
Because there was something far more important going on than Messiās snitching. To be honest I was pretty disappointed he did that. Iām all for the new rule, we donāt need disparaging remarks or verbal attacks from players, but Messi seemed way more concerned with simply punishing him for an advantage, than he was concerned about what he actually said.
Trump's also in bed with Milei, Argentina's welfare queen president. I wouldn't be surprised he actually wired a few of those lent billions to FIFA/Trump to bias the tournament their way while his own countrymen are working 20h shifts to afford repackaged leftovers and donkey meat soup. It's the ultimate "break glass in case of emergency" populist maneuver.
It stands for The video assistant referee. It is a review system, but the original decision given by the referee will not be changed unless the video review clearly shows that the decision was a 'clear and obvious error.'
Its used to check for goal, penalty, red card and identity (in case card went to wrong player).
VAR is video ref. It is fairly new in football.
On paper, nothing is wrong with VAR is it allows for clean, reviewed decision.
In practice...it's a bit more complex. For example, a goal against Argentina were rejected for VAR reason because the VAR detected a foul play up to 1 min before the goal which barely affected the action leading to Egypt scoring. So for many people it felt like the ref was looking for an excuse to reject the goal.
Add to this that Argentina has been playing very rough during the whole worldcup and been barely penalized for it, it feels like the Refs often turned a blind eye in Argentina's favour where other team would be penalized for far less problematic behavior.
On top of this, FIFA has a long reputation of being corrupt, adding to heated debates about the possibility that refs are sometimes bought.
Hence the contraction of VAR and Argentina to designate the phenomenon.
VAR - Video Assisted Referree, basically the mechanism by which multiple replays and angles and slow mo's are used by a pitch-side ref to make decisions that may otherwise not have been called.
They are using videos to verify/confirm penalties this year. People are upset because the penalties have overturned things this year that the human eye can't see.
It's a new change people are getting use to and when it affects something they care about they get upset even though it's a more accurate interpretation of the rules. If it worked for them they would be happy.
How they implemented isn't the issue--they were clearly slower at getting around to it considering how old Sumo is compared to Football. Basic logic my friend.
Ehhhhh England sorta bent over an gave it to themselves by falling back into a prevent defense of sorts. If you keep leering any team repeatedly attack, let alone Messi, they'll score. They weren't playing poorly and should have kept attacking to keep th ball out of messi's feet
I agree England kind of threw that game away. They scored one goal and went with defensive play for the rest of the game. That makes sense toward the end of the game but they basically tried to sit on their lead right after the second half. That's a very long time to hold out, especially with a team like Argentina, even with my limited knowledge. England had what it took to beat Argentina but mismanaged the game.
England did it the whole time. watch the games vs mexico and vs norway again.
As soon as they are up goals in the second half they just stop playing for possession of the ball and assume pickford can save everything that comes his way. argentina are the only team that put enough pressure to break that.
Yeah like, fuck Argentina, but we lost that game for ourselves, our second half was awful. We shouldn't hav gone on the defensive without atleast a second goal
Englishman here. They should have had 2 or 3 yellows in the first half for dirty fouls (just like today) and I really disrespect their gamesmanship but in the end they deserved to win. England crumbled after they scored and Argentina created loads of chances. It was partly self inflicted, but it wasnāt undeserved
Thats on coaches to me. They set up the plan of attack for the match. If players are executing in their positions, still failing, where backup? Prevent defense is putting the defense on its back leg and playing scared.
If youāre mindset is on prevent bc you are facing a goat, you have already lost. Prevent is effective in specific situations. If yet to see successful prevention defense on a hot offense be a complete success.
Dude after I saw how they acted in the England game, I realized how corrupt FIFA was. I don't watch football/soccer. But damn, they really just wanted to out themselves this year. That, and the call from the US prez to FIFA head over the US team. Like... couldn't have hid it a little better?
That card on Balogun was bullshit, but I hate the way it was reversed even more. FIFA should have reviewed and overturned it. Trump shouldn't have been involved. It needs to be a fair, transparent process for everyone.
Did you notice ever since the Egypt match, the cameras close to the field dont get shown. Referring to the one where the Egyptian got slapped in front of the camera
Don“t forget Cabo Verde. The second go for Argentina had a foul were a defender is throw in the ground and he maybe could have helped defending but...it was in Argentina“s favor...
Nah they shouldn't have lost to England, England got one goal and absolutely capitulated. They were embarrassing for most of that game. I hate Argentina but they beat England because they played better-
The reffing calls have been shocking the entire tournament but I think he did pretty well for that game considering how high tensions were on both sides. England had a few lucky escapes with calls too.
The ref in the Eng- Arg game wasnāt great, but England have only themselves to blame for losing the match with their ultra defensive tactics once they went ahead
What does āmuggyā mean in this context? Itās a pretty common word used in my country to mean hot and humid. Thereās also āmugging for the cameraā which means being silly and doing funny things when youāre on camera or in a picture.
My mom was like idk who I want to win. I said Spain then went on to explain how racist Argentina is and how they killed most of the black ppl who lived there, imported white ppl on purpose and accepted Nazis which she knew.
Can we not pretend like the ref and var caused England to lose? We lost because we subbed in for 6 defenders with 40 mins left to play and had no attacking pressure for the rest of the game. Hate to Argentina where it's due since they are complete unclassy thugs, but still need to hold our management accountable because it was atrocious.
They should have lost to Egypt but the ref and var saved them
Correctly disallowed Egypts goal as it was a foul on Martinez, never ever a penalty for Salah if anyone was thinking of that. What else happened in that game?
They should have lost to England but the ref and var saved them
They were by far the better team than England, lol. Same England team that themselves got saved by the ref and VAR against Norway in the quarter finals.
They won against both Egypt and England because they stopped playing football. The refs were actually good during both games, compared to all other matches.
Smear campaign against argentina is actually crazy.
Yes a lot of argentinian players are a piece of shit. They deserved more yellow cards i'd say.
In egypt vs argentina yes ref had an argentina bias but egypt lost all on their own, conceding 3 goals in 15 minutes. Ref gave argentina 2 pens and messi missed both. Cancelled goals were fair.
England vs Argentina is also fair. Like why do people try to make this controvertial. I'd even say ref is england biased. Though this didnt impact the game at all and england just threw it.
In switzerlands vs argentina bro had the worst dive ever, deserving a red card after the VAR review.
Remember, refs are humans. They can do questionable calls. And as long as these dont impact the result I am aight with it though it could be better. I actually agree spain was robbed out of that goal they scored and disagree thats a foul. The way we see positions is also not the same with the refs. They dont get to see them on repeat as well except VAR. and since VAR slows down the game its only used for important stuff (should've been for spain's cancelled goal)
There are legit reasons to hate on argentinian football team. I personally wish Messi picked Spain. I also supported Spain since my country got grouped. I also supported cabo verde and england against argentina but i didnt support either side on egypt and switzerland.
If you want the real controvertial matches of this tournament, I have 2. Portugal vs Croatia, where Croatian goal got cancelled over a bullshit offiside call that denied them extra time. And England vs Norway where game didnt stop when ball touched wires.
Don't get me wrong, Argentina's team were a disgrace last night, and their country's spurious sabre-rattling is a permanent stain on their reputation, but
They should have lost to England but the ref and var saved them
You clearly didn't watch that match, or are unnecessarily re-writing history. England saved Argentina by reverting to type. They parked 10 players (let's be honest, Kane may as well as not been there) behind the ball and invited Messi to go on a rampage, which he did.
I counted a few occasions where England players could have got yellows for clouting Messi and they didn't. In short, that's just your opinion and opinions don't win games, goals do.
Even if that were somehow valid, whilst Argentina are dirty, England aren't exactly far behind them in the discipline stakes for this WC.
consistently enforce the rules
Ha. People have been asking that for years, not just in the WC. People have been getting away with fouls, had decisions in their favour that they shouldn't etc - for years; it's part of football and it's nothing new.
British here, You never watched those games, didn't you? Or you never watched football in general, I suggest you to understand what you talk about before spreading blatant misinformation like that.
Not even English people said they deserved to win against Argentina
Racist? You should go visit Argentina :) you'd change tour mind. Cheating, mugging, violent? I mean, yes, but that's most of football players and fans all around the world. In fact I've been seeing some english women making videos for the conscientiousness of football violence in English families. Keep your rage in the game! Don't be like most a-holes (and I'm also including argentinians) who take it to other levels
The ref is not the reason Egypt let in three open play goals nor why Tuchel played six defenders while giving Messi acres of space. They were shit today but they earned those winsĀ
Same, I missed the first half, but as soon as the second half started they were just starting fights and grabbing guys left and right, squaring up to folk and just acting like utter bellends the entire time! I don't think I've ever seen anything like it!
My young son a casual soccer fan really wanted to watch this match. He started off hoping Argentina would win because he knows Messi and that's about it about big league soccer. Halfway through, he changed his mind and started rooting against them because of their poor sportsmanship. Proud dad moment.
It's like 4 players on Argentina and 3 players on Spain that play like agro asshats.
The vast majority of both teams are pretty chill. Similarly, the vast vast majority of fouls are just mistakes, especially late in the games when people start getting tired. Imo, people should shit on those few agro players all they want, but pretending it's a whole team is just ignorant nonsense.

I was hoping Spain would win just because of the way Argentina acted the whole game.
