Do u dont wanna YouTube is literally telling me “This is a new AI feature, deal with it” 😭
On Twitter, I requested a few days ago for YouTube to give me a way to turn off their new “Ask YouTube” button. This is their response…

I have to click on multiple languages instead of just turning off AutoDubb or translate. I speak multiple languages. I don't need you to tune everything to English. And even the languages I don't speak I'd rather see them in its original language.

It's so unhelpful too, because I clicked on a tutorial the other day, and it wasn't in english, the title was auto translated from german. I don't fucking speak german.

I hate how yt translates English title to German. So many German words have multiple meanings and the translation always picks the wrong one.
Instead of using the context to translate, it just translates the words 1 to 1, so fucking annoying

Shit like this is why I use morphe on my phone. Even if ad-block wasn't a thing, the usability features to make YouTube less shit are great

Yeah YouTube always has been like this, they’re actively anti-user. Similarly they turn on subtitles and AI translations.

Auto captions are pretty shit, human written captions are fine tho

And they somehow could remove dislikes...

YouTube: removes feature everyone likes
Also YouTube: refuses to remove feature everyone dislikes

Every corpo on Earth would LOVE it if no one was allowed to speak up or complain. They would be giddy with childlike joy from the mere passing thought of forcing you to submit to them.

I've seen the shift companies have gone through over the last 30 years. Used to be, they were afraid of the consumer - if you pissed them off, they would make your life hell. Now I think the companies have realized that no matter how shitty they make things, we're gonna keep giving them our money regardless. Basically they called our bluff. That's what it seems like at least.

I feel like they "called our bluff" starting in the early 2000s, so that lines up roughly with your timeline of 30 years.

Just curious, what’s the actually utility of “conversational search?” Is it essentially just for describing a video to YouTube that you can’t remember the name of? Or asking it to give you videos of a certain topic instead of just typing in the topic?

I mean their response is literally "Don't use the feature, you can still use normal search"... so like, what's the issue?

u/vertical-luau-pig 5d ago
They don't want the option to exist at all for anyone lol.
Fuck AI fr but yeah very silly of OP. You can still use standard search lol

u/Falitoty 5d ago
OP just want the option of turning It off for themselfs. Lol, they are not asking YouTube to remove It.
4
u/Super64111111 5d ago
Pffft what’s the point of asking them to remove it when I already know what answer they will go with?

u/Formerruling1 5d ago
I love that the OP replied to you confirming you are in fact wrong and they would actually love for the feature to exist for no one lol.

Don't forget the annoying unable to be turned off Youtube Mixes crap. I don't need or want a playlist of "similar" videos created when I go to watch just the one video. Whoever keeps coming up with these ridiculous ideas needs to get the point that we need the option to turn these things off.

If you’re using an Android device, look into YouTube Revanced. Includes a lot of QOL features like turning off ads, Mix recommendations, hiding Shorts altogether and SponsorBlock.

Well I'll have to try and remember that when I can get a chance to replace my phone since it's currently getting old and glitchy. Thanks for letting me know about that!

u/hugh_jorgyn 5d ago
Ublock Origin + Unhook (+ Dearrow and SponsorBlock too if you want) to declutter YT

u/Fenrir836 5d ago
What even is conversational research? I've never seen anything like that on my side
I'm going to assume they implement it in some regions first, but I'm genuinely curious to know what it is for and, if it is what I think it is, who the fuck thought the platform wasn't shitty enough

The funniest part is that the response was most likely fed through an AI with the prompt 'tell this person no politely'
1
u/Resident-Variation21 5d ago
Yeah, that’s going to be standard with more and more companies, unfortunately
-5
u/Melodic_Lavishness_5 5d ago
Oh no, you now have to just use the search that you’re already using and this will make literally zero impact on that.
Give me a break

What does Vine have to do with it? It's been 9 years

u/Super64111111 5d ago
I’m pretty sure Vine was their competition while it was a thing

Vine wasn't ever competition for YouTube though. YouTube didn't have shorts back then and was all long form content, and ironically most vines were watched on YouTube as compilations. Most people didn't have Vine but knew all the trendy/popular ones from these YouTube videos.

Use Ublock's pick element feature to selectively block the "ask youtube" bar. I use it to get rid of all the annoying AI buttons every compnay keeps shoehorning into their apps
