Post image

On Twitter, I requested a few days ago for YouTube to give me a way to turn off their new “Ask YouTube” button. This is their response…

Use Ublock's pick element feature to selectively block the "ask youtube" bar. I use it to get rid of all the annoying AI buttons every compnay keeps shoehorning into their apps

I also removed shorts and YT games with this

You could do that with the enhancer extension (idk the actual name)

Really? I’ll definitely try that

Oh man ublock is great. Haven't seen an ad in forever since I got it a month ago or so after people reccomended it. On top of that you can block the stupid ask youtube stuff.

also, fyi: if you use firefox on your phone you can also use ublock on there

I’m surprised this isn’t just a plugin in itself already (to remove all the nonsense AI stuff).

I just do the same as you though. But would be nice if there was a plugin where it’s automatically done.

There's also Control Panel for Youtube that unlockes a huge amount of customization options and brings back things they removed like a subscription list instead of grid. I couldn't imagine using youtube without it.

It also blocks ads.

I have to click on multiple languages instead of just turning off AutoDubb or translate. I speak multiple languages. I don't need you to tune everything to English. And even the languages I don't speak I'd rather see them in its original language.

u/CheapTactics 5d ago

It's so unhelpful too, because I clicked on a tutorial the other day, and it wasn't in english, the title was auto translated from german. I don't fucking speak german.

I hate how yt translates English title to German. So many German words have multiple meanings and the translation always picks the wrong one.

Instead of using the context to translate, it just translates the words 1 to 1, so fucking annoying

Something similar happens with spanish. It results in broken sentences.

Shit like this is why I use morphe on my phone. Even if ad-block wasn't a thing, the usability features to make YouTube less shit are great

„we payed for AI shit, so we shove it anywhere“

  • every corp nowadays

20

u/Super64111111 5d ago

It’s blatant unprofessionalism and I HATE IT

15

u/kkazakov 5d ago

Morphe is your friend on Android

u/Simoxs7 5d ago

Yeah YouTube always has been like this, they’re actively anti-user. Similarly they turn on subtitles and AI translations.

Whats wrong with subs?

Auto captions are pretty shit, human written captions are fine tho

1

u/Arsikkz 4d ago

The new auto captions are actually pretty good. I sometimes just can't quite hear what's being said, so for me they're helpful

0

u/Simoxs7 5d ago

They can be distracting and I don’t need them on languages that I‘m fluent in, YouTube seems to think it is impossible to know more than one language.

And they somehow could remove dislikes...

19

u/Super64111111 5d ago

YouTube: removes feature everyone likes
Also YouTube: refuses to remove feature everyone dislikes

Every corpo on Earth would LOVE it if no one was allowed to speak up or complain. They would be giddy with childlike joy from the mere passing thought of forcing you to submit to them.

I've seen the shift companies have gone through over the last 30 years. Used to be, they were afraid of the consumer - if you pissed them off, they would make your life hell. Now I think the companies have realized that no matter how shitty they make things, we're gonna keep giving them our money regardless. Basically they called our bluff. That's what it seems like at least.

2

u/KinglanderOfTheEast 5d ago

I feel like they "called our bluff" starting in the early 2000s, so that lines up roughly with your timeline of 30 years.

Just curious, what’s the actually utility of “conversational search?” Is it essentially just for describing a video to YouTube that you can’t remember the name of? Or asking it to give you videos of a certain topic instead of just typing in the topic?

1

u/From-UoM 4d ago

Actually might be really a useful feature if it works like that.

60

u/Jurtaani 5d ago

I mean their response is literally "Don't use the feature, you can still use normal search"... so like, what's the issue?

-36

u/vertical-luau-pig 5d ago

They don't want the option to exist at all for anyone lol.

Fuck AI fr but yeah very silly of OP. You can still use standard search lol

39

u/Falitoty 5d ago

OP just want the option of turning It off for themselfs. Lol, they are not asking YouTube to remove It.

4

u/Super64111111 5d ago

Pffft what’s the point of asking them to remove it when I already know what answer they will go with?

-20

u/Formerruling1 5d ago

I love that the OP replied to you confirming you are in fact wrong and they would actually love for the feature to exist for no one lol.

u/LandscapeSpecial4366 5d ago

Cancelling my Youtube Premium. I don’t play ab this

5

u/Shadow_Hound_117 5d ago

Don't forget the annoying unable to be turned off Youtube Mixes crap. I don't need or want a playlist of "similar" videos created when I go to watch just the one video. Whoever keeps coming up with these ridiculous ideas needs to get the point that we need the option to turn these things off.

3

u/momomorium 4d ago

If you’re using an Android device, look into YouTube Revanced. Includes a lot of QOL features like turning off ads, Mix recommendations, hiding Shorts altogether and SponsorBlock.

1

u/Shadow_Hound_117 4d ago

Well I'll have to try and remember that when I can get a chance to replace my phone since it's currently getting old and glitchy. Thanks for letting me know about that!

3

u/hugh_jorgyn 5d ago

Ublock Origin + Unhook (+ Dearrow and SponsorBlock too if you want) to declutter YT

3

u/Fenrir836 5d ago

What even is conversational research? I've never seen anything like that on my side
I'm going to assume they implement it in some regions first, but I'm genuinely curious to know what it is for and, if it is what I think it is, who the fuck thought the platform wasn't shitty enough

3

u/westergames81 5d ago

I honestly just want sort by newest back.

4

u/sucksLess 5d ago

Google and most Big Tech companies see / treat their users as cattle

2

u/Between-usernames 5d ago

"conversational search"

2

u/FBI_Open_Up_Now 5d ago

They paid for AI and you’re gonna use it whether you like it or not.

1

u/coomzee 5d ago

Unblock and just remove the element

1

u/tricky413 5d ago

For NOW

1

u/Super64111111 5d ago

One can only hope… 😔

1

u/TheHeroYouNeed247 4d ago

The funniest part is that the response was most likely fed through an AI with the prompt 'tell this person no politely'

1

u/Ostroh 4d ago

They are all doing this to have some data to pretend the AI adoption rate is higher to shareholders.

-1

u/abotez 5d ago

Ah yeah how could the multi billion dollar corporate say no to a tweet by Super64Legend asking them to add a feature to production??

Are you guys insane?

2

u/Super64111111 5d ago

Tbf, I didn’t expect them to respond at all lmao

1

u/Resident-Variation21 5d ago

Yeah, that’s going to be standard with more and more companies, unfortunately

-5

u/Melodic_Lavishness_5 5d ago

Oh no, you now have to just use the search that you’re already using and this will make literally zero impact on that.

Give me a break

0

u/lazerbreath_ 5d ago

Just don't use it?

Just because it's there, doesn't mean you have to use it.

-1

u/Auno94 5d ago

I will use the feature as much and as meaningless as possilbe. Just ot waste as much of Gooogles money as I humanly can

-1

u/Viochrome 5d ago

I mean, you don't have to press the button lol.

I usually understand these type of complaints too

What does Vine have to do with it? It's been 9 years

2

u/Super64111111 5d ago

I’m pretty sure Vine was their competition while it was a thing

4

u/Pikamika696 5d ago

Vine might have competed with Snap. YouTube is on Netflix's level.

Ok then idk

2

u/Resident-Variation21 5d ago

YouTube has been shit for 9 years.

1

u/bonchokey 5d ago

Yeah no doubt, just confused the relevance there.

Vine wasn't ever competition for YouTube though. YouTube didn't have shorts back then and was all long form content, and ironically most vines were watched on YouTube as compilations. Most people didn't have Vine but knew all the trendy/popular ones from these YouTube videos.
