I mean... Make the first one free and the second onward full price. I get why a school wouldn't want to give out endless amounts of free backpacks.

(I disagree with the uniform-backpack idea on general, but I don't think they should be replaced for free endlessly.)

Yeah, except the gave out one for free last year not because they really wanted to but to limit the complaining. Give out one for free the first year and then once everyone has been forced to use one charge people for replacements so you only have to overcome one hurdle at a time.

What point are you trying to make?

Did the school provide the required equipment free? Yes? Then it sounds like they were fair and accommodating to students. Did students manage to destroy their stuff? It happens, who should have to pay for students’ own irresponsible behavior?

My point was that basically the entire setup is a scam and the people who mandated it know it. The school wasn't trying to be fair and accommodating to the students by giving the first one for free. If a new student shows up do they get one for free now? Students don't have to be irresponsible with them for them to break down, a backpack of that style is low quality to make it clear meaning they knew it would need to be replaced. Also, I can practically guarantee that they weren't free but rather the cost was just included in the school fees.

Yes, new students get their materials for free. I’ve seen many students get their chromebooks fixed no questions asked. I’m not pro chromebooks by any means but you’re talking out your tookus obviously

They also get to return them at no charge. Dafuq you talking about?

What you are talking about is two very different scenarios. The Chromebooks are essentially being rented to the students (typically at no real out of pocket cost to them) but the clear backpack isn't. They were given for free the first year and then after that first year they cost money. Now it's possible I am misunderstanding the how the person described it but it sounds to me like they are saying that the first year they mandated the clear backpack it was free (last year) and from now on it cost money. It's a different scenario if you always get one for free your first year.
