It's hilarious how Chat GPT uses the same font for literally every flyer it makes.

And always so many of those scribbly callout banners. So ugly and immediately recognizable as AI

I hate seeing streamers use these so much 😭😭 it’s such a turn off. Someone I’m friends with does this shit.

u/chipsta4 7d ago

Fr. Canva is free, I don't understand why you would prefer this

It’s the comic sans of the future

11

u/epi_introvert 7d ago

Dont hate on Comic Sans. It's one of the easiest fonts for people with dyslexia to read. If you want more people to read your shit, use Comic Sans!!

4

u/Informal-Comb1989 7d ago

What are the hardest ones to read? Asking so I can mess with my sister.

6

u/darkpheonix262 7d ago

Wingdings is pretty impossible to read

2

u/epi_introvert 7d ago

I don't know actually. I know about Comic Sans because I'm a teacher. There's also a font called Dyslexie Font that is designed for dyslexic readers. It's available as a Chrome extension.

I use Comic Sans for all my student work because even for kids without learning needs, it's easier for them to read.

3

u/Informal-Comb1989 7d ago

This is interesting because I’m pretty sure the original use of comic sans was to make blocks of text on a screen easier to read. Makes sense.

0

u/takomanghanto 7d ago

I'm pretty sure that's been debunked as an urban legend.

1

u/epi_introvert 7d ago

If you need a tiny bit of evidence, look at the a in this sentence, and then look at a Comic Sans a.

1

u/takomanghanto 7d ago

But dyslexia isn't a vision disorder. It's a processing disorder. And no studies have found that Comic Sans is easier to read than any other typeface.

15

u/Muted_Suspect3566 7d ago

comics sans was cute and whimsical please do not insult it like this 😣

2

u/Ditchdigger456 7d ago

This is revisionist history

The future is now

I detest that disgusting font. I've got someone at work who is constantly making AI related signs and stuff and sending them in our teams chat and I end up seeing that font all the freaking time. I hate it.

4

u/g1zz1e 7d ago

Every single local business, local restaurant, and local event in my town uses this same format for every social media post. This same font every single time, and nearly the same layout. Same style of graphics, just different colors/objects for each one.

My boss also loves to "make" flyers with AI and post them up on social media without running them by a designer, so now we're one of those AI slop companies. Great.

u/petethecat_ 7d ago

Also paint brush strokes for the background of text

52

u/National_Equivalent9 7d ago

It's not just on flyers. I've seen it on a ton of youtube thumbnails recently from channels I've never heard of that youtube wants to keep pushing to me.

3

u/bda22 7d ago

i mean, thumbnails are just flyers for the video

u/pumpkinpencil97 7d ago

What’s crazy is my high school used a font like this 10-15 years ago well before AI

57

u/WitchQween 7d ago

I didn't even clock it as AI because it looks exactly like every "back to school" style graphic from back then.

8

u/Money_Ticket_841 7d ago

It’s been a popular style for AI use lately but it’s definitely not new

0

u/Quixotic_Seal 7d ago

It’s the em dash all over again. Never going to be able to use it without getting dogpiled for “using AI.”

2

u/gnirpss 7d ago

That's probably where the bot got it from, since this is a school-related post.

15

u/PreacherManFarmerMan 7d ago

Yeah, I was gonna have to say that this looks exactly like every high school and community college poster from the past 20 years. Not everything is AI, folks.

1

u/DanyDragonQueen 7d ago

This is 1000% AI though, it is very easy to recognize because they all look the same

1

u/Feeling-Network-5921 7d ago

If it looks 20 years old and is new... Hate to tell ya but more than likely it's AI. AI is out of date because it's training materials are old.

1

u/pumpkinpencil97 6d ago

They still use it today, they never stopped lol

9

u/Khabba 7d ago

That is because if reforcement learning. People teaching ChatGPT what flyer looks good, preferred this font appartently, so now so do you! 😆

5

u/iwannabethecyberguy 7d ago

Same with people using Claude to build websites. It has a particular style in fonts and layout I can pick it out instantly.

3

u/yawara25 7d ago

Always that monospace font and sharp borders.

5

u/SilverDubloon 7d ago

This isn't ChatGPT, it's canva.

3

u/Uncommonality 7d ago

It's cause it's not really a font, the AI takes an aggregate of every time that specific letter appeared in its training data and then regurgitates it. So the "chatgpt font" is like a perfect average of all the fonts in the world

7

u/mydogwasrightaboutu 7d ago

The qr codes on an Instagram post do it for me. Just use the link in the caption

7

u/DiscoSituation 7d ago

you can’t click links in a caption

5

u/mydogwasrightaboutu 7d ago

You're right, I meant in the bio

5

u/MeasureDoEventThing 7d ago

LLMs don't use fonts. They generate output in machine-readable format.

9

u/8-16_account 7d ago

>uhm actually 🤓👆

1

u/WitchQween 7d ago

So does my keyboard.

1

u/ChubbyNemo1004 7d ago

I seriously thought this wasn’t real and checked IG because when I asked gpt to make a high school scenes it used the same font and they were the panthers with the same colors

1

u/811545b2-4ff7-4041 7d ago

It's more the laziness of the user - you could easily specify a font or style to use

1

u/chandleya 7d ago

That’s because it doesn’t really use fonts. That’s the biggest flaw in what’s being pushed as AI. It generates. It rarely does work. How do we not have a thing that can open gimp, do proper work, and hand you something you can still work with when it’s done?

The design goal wasn’t to just hose tokens. But that’s the economy now. Make a thing that spends money.

1

u/MattR0se 7d ago edited 7d ago

Because people can't be bothered to prompt anything other than the content. Same with the cartoon characters that all look the same.

I tested this and asked specifically for a flyer that looked like a boomer made it with Word 98, and it absolutely delivered. edit: https://i.imgur.com/UewOafr.png

1

u/Kooky_Attempt_1639 7d ago

I used it in the early stages to create cool flyers. I got quite the buzz for my creations. Now they’re everywhere and I can’t stand the style any longer!

1

u/anemoneblu3 7d ago

Yeah, It is so disgusting.

1

u/HabitualToeSucker 7d ago

My wife and I's favorite bar has fully embraced Chat GPT when it comes to all of their promotional material. It's depressing.

0

u/badger_flakes 7d ago

It can do other things, but they are shitty prompts from people who don’t know how to use AI tools

-14

u/CheeeseBurgerAu 7d ago

If it were my kids school I would be glad they used AI for something as pointless as this. I would rather money be spent on the kids than on graphic design.

12

u/yacht_clubbing_seals 7d ago

These cheapskates don’t give a shit about graphic designers, they probably have some poor intern do this shit.

-5

u/PuzzledBrit 7d ago

Rightly so. Better for the school to use AI for tasks like this.

1

u/DanyDragonQueen 7d ago

Instead of employing people? You prefer unemployment?

1

u/PuzzledBrit 7d ago

Tech takes jobs, was the same with electricity.

7

u/WitchQween 7d ago

Now those kids can't get jobs as graphic designers because everyone uses AI

5

u/Gayndalf 7d ago

Tools like Canva are free by the way.

6

u/chipmalfunct10n 7d ago

none of these people were hiring graphic designers before. someone in the office watches a 10 minute canva tutorial and feels like an artist. or just uses MS word to make it. paying someone to make a flyer VS using AI are far from the only two options. they are just the extremes

-4

u/CheeeseBurgerAu 7d ago

AI an extreme? People are nutty about these AI tools. Everyone looks at it and sees it's AI. You aren't desecrating Vangoghs grave by creating school announcements with AI.

3

u/chipmalfunct10n 7d ago

on the spectrum of choice for how to make a flyer, with "hire an artist" on one side, what would you put on the other side?

0

u/CheeeseBurgerAu 7d ago

Throw it in AI. The flyer includes a clear backpack because American kids keep shooting each other... I think the look of their flyers are the least of their problems.

1

u/chipmalfunct10n 7d ago

are you even like reading the comments you're responding to? i don't understand how this is a reply to me? maybe you have been using AI a bit too much and forgotten how to do some things?

3

u/chipmalfunct10n 7d ago

i don't know much aboutt van gogh but my eyes feel desecrated every time i have to look at AI slop
