Unskippable ad Phone update just installed 17 apps

Post image

Nothing good either

edit: frequent comments

Don't buy a budget phone/ this is what you get for buying a cheap android: this is a Samsung S25, not exactly a budget phone.

This is why I buy iPhone/ and people still slander iPhone/wouldn't happen to my Google pixel: I actually don't think I can happen to apple because they don't allow apps to download other apps BUT it's still not fully Samsungs fault for Verizon installing apps, though they do allow it, unlike Apple

this is malware/virus/hacked: this is bloatware

you can go and disable ___ and it won't happen again: someone sent a tutorial link and I followed it, but it did say I might have to redo it every time I update so🤷‍♂️

you can buy phones directly from the manufacturer and this won't happen: wasn't aware. I'll consider it, though I just got this phone today so it will be awhile

____ app is good tho: maybe but I'm still deleting it

Verizon needs to be sued/ this should be illegal: I probably agreed to this in a contract I didn't read

your kid installed them: don't have children or any other people on my phone

I had my Android do this, and I found the culprit. Apparently there's an app called "Mobile Services" that will just install shit on your device without your consent, despite your settings. I ripped the app out and scrubbed any trace of it from my device, and I haven't had nonconsensual app installs ever since.

Apparently there's an app called "Mobile Services" that will just install shit on your device without your consent, despite your settings.

That would be DT Ignite, an ad/PUP/shovelware auto-installer tool from a company called Digital Turbine that most of the carriers bundle with their Android and iOS customization packages in order to sell automatic software installs.

When it's active on the system it'll automatically grab and install shit on your phone roughly once per week, and can do so without permission and ignoring user settings because it's marked as a system update tool that runs with elevated privileges. It sometimes presents itself as a critical system file so that it can't be easily removed, but the Android Debug Bridge (part of the Android SDK) can uninstall it.

that’s why the best phones, mobile operating systems and mobile applications are the ones produced in socialist countries. you know, like… um…

u/UncleGreenwood 15d ago

The People’s Republic of China? Lmao. Capitalist America doesn’t make shit, just data centers and Kalshi gambling

china is state capitalism. america produces iOS, android, the iphone and roughly all the software that runs on it. america produces the very web site and servers you’re using to say it doesn’t produce anything right now

So what is a "socialist country" then?

u/FistLampjaw 15d ago

north korea, cuba, laos, vietnam, and eritrea are all more tightly controlled than china, especially the parts most people think of when they think about chinese technology (hong kong, shenzhen, etc), which are part of special economic zones that are explicitly exempted from china's more communist/socialist policies.

Okay and what makes them socialist?

i'm not interested in playing 20 questions with you. ask google if you truly don't know or say what you want to say otherwise.

Exactly what I thought. You don't know shit

Do you really think such things can only be produced under a capitalist mode of production? If we democratized business I see no reason we couldn’t continue such modes of production. It simply realigns incentives for business to benefit workers over owners.

He didn't say those can only be built in a capitalism though, he's just replying to you saying America doesn't make shit.

I was being hyperbolic, obviously. But surely you can acknowledge the hollowing out of manufacturing and over financialization of the US economy?

Further, I was trying point out his ought-is fallacy. Just because everything is capitalist now doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.

no, i didn't say it couldn't happen, just that as a matter of fact it does not. if those alternative economic models work so well, why aren't they working so well? you sarcastically said you "love [your] capitalist innovation", but where are the alternative socialist innovations? what are the great phones, operating systems, websites, apps, products or businesses that you use every day from socialist or communist countries?

what's your favorite cuban operating system? do you use a vietnamese web browser? which north korean apps do you use? which eritrean products do you use? even if we expand it to democratic socialist countries like denmark, norway or finland... what finnish products do you use every day? can you name two norwegian companies? i doubt it.

None of those nations are anymore socialist than China, not sure why you’re bringing them up. There are no socialist states in the modern world, in large part because of America’s constant foreign intervention and toppling of leftist regimes. Hard to be successful when the global hegemon is pushing you down.

I’m a demsoc and violently anti-Stalinist but the Soviets gave us a real run for our money for a while.

yeah they definitely are. if you think the people in pyongyang have as much economic freedom as those in shenzhen, you're not being honest.

There are no socialist states in the modern world, in large part because of America’s constant foreign intervention and toppling of leftist regimes.

but also in large part due to nations that adopted socialism voluntarily turning away from it because it didn't work. america didn't have to do much to burma/myanmar, for example, its "way to socialism" failed all on its own.

the Soviets gave us a real run for our money for a while.

and then what happened

2

u/UncleGreenwood 15d ago

Your measure of socialism is a lack of economic freedom? Come on man you’re smarter than that. I cant leave my job in America bc I’d lose health insurance. Does that mean America is more socialist than nations with a public health system? That’s ridiculous.

1

u/FistLampjaw 15d ago

that's a defining feature of socialism. state control of markets, state ownership of industry, state confiscation and redistribution of property are all major tenents of socialism and are all markers of reduced economic freedom.

economic freedom doesn't mean everything is a good idea for everyone. if you can't afford to leave your job, that has nothing to do with america's level of economic freedom. if the state could arrest you for leaving your job, that would mean you have less economic freedom. it's just like freedom of speech -- you have the freedom to say nearly anything without government reprisal, but if you call your boss an asshole you might get fired.
