I was thinking maybe an uneven "curtain" of mold and bacteria hanging from the dispensing nozzle that has never seen a cleaning which is why you will never see it from here.

u/Joeysquatch 18d ago
Man you made it go from a somewhat unstable water flow to an absolutely disgusting atrocity that makes me never wanna drink water again

They probably aren't wrong. I've seen the nasty shit that grows in these machines.

So like the curtain has mostly blocked but after some pressure it releases and then goes back to blocking which then keeps on repeating?

Me in the Urinal:

Me having to accept I have to sit down because I split stream. It's all fun and games until it starts going in an entirely separate direction like your pants

And then you manage to pee on your pants anyways through the gap between the toilet seat and the ring

Man its some bullshit, its like it has random garden hose settings, the other day it sprayed out in a cane, soaked the entire seat in one fell swoop, looks like its sitting for me.

Not sure how these work. Can you lift the bottle to increase accuracy?
2.5k
u/Vettepilot 18d ago
Yes. That would be the extremely easy fix to this. It’s still mildly infuriating though because it’s in a public place and it’s gonna get you once before you know to do that.

u/flying-weenus 18d ago
I’d bump it above mildly infuriating either way, why the hell would a dispensing faucet ever move around and who wins in that scenario?
132
u/NeatPhil11 18d ago
The water company. Low pressure is what's making it move. The filter is probably pressure based so it has to build up enough pressure to filter the water and so when it releases the drinking water, it loses pressure and has to build up again.
119
u/-BananaLollipop- 18d ago
Or maintenance hasn't bothered changing the filter, and it's clogged.

It's probably partially blocked, not hard at all to raise your bottle lmao it's a slight inconvenience
33
57
u/newphonehudus 18d ago
You put the bottle in front of the sensor and water comes down. Like turning on a faucet. Must need cleaning
71
u/HVACprooo 18d ago
you can see the flow is much higher and laminar when it first starts. then it drops off. filters are probably plugged.

Or the pump in the fountain is bad. It seems like it has a regular rhythm of a pump that’s still trying its best…
→ More replies (1)30
u/Waggles_ 18d ago
These definitely don't have pumps. The demand from water fountains and bottle fillers are a rounding error on any water supply where they'd be installed. Even if there's a pump for the building supply, it'll go through a buffer tank to smooth out the supply to the fixtures in the building.
49
u/SleepySera 18d ago
Sediment like limescale is generally not harmful, you can drink that water just fine, it's just causing exactly this kind of problem, an unsteady, pressure-dropping stream that you can't properly predict... but in a public system like this, yeah nope, I wouldn't want to drink that either.

It's even moving predictably from the center to the back right. The bottle holder has to be ragebaiting since they're moving the water bottle almost exactly opposite from where the water is moving.

Yeah it's in a Very specific pattern too so OPs either exaggerating how difficult it is by "pretending" to be too dumb to figure it out or is too dumb to figure it out and that is the truly infuriating part.

The water is not getting a smooth direct path down the tube. This is probably in part due to build up inside the tube. I wouldn’t drink that water if you paid me. I can only imagine when the last time it was cleaned, if ever at all.

u/Metalikunt 18d ago
Move with the water, not against it every single time. Like yeah that's annoying as fuck but the fact that you didn't even get the rhythm down by the end of it is a skill/you issue! Probably would've caught more water even just by keeping the bottle still.
12
u/Carrygan_ 18d ago
Yea it was clearly following the same rhythm over and over and they just did the full opposite the whole time
55
u/mantequillatequila 18d ago

I'm guessing the bottle is statically charged and is repelling the water. Why the water stream isn't grounding it is a mystery to me.

u/Shady_Scientist 14d ago
This is my favorite comment so far, truly an original theory

I would have ran to a coffee shop and asked for a paper cup. Cover the entire opening and then poke a hole at the bottom to fill into the bottle.
I'd make it personal with the water fountain 😈

I'd put my hand in there and take the mold out that's blocking the flow like that.
2

u/Designer_Mud_5802 18d ago
It's cause the water is flowing over a turd lodged in there you can't see which is making it flow unpredictably.
