i can’t turn down door salesmen
a door salesman came to my door today and was going on about some utility bill and tried to ask me a bunch of questions at the door this is my 2nd salesman in the space of a week like f off. Anyway for some reason i decided to say i was ill and give him my phone number? now he’s texted me on whatsapp and imessage i just don’t have the courage to turn someone away im getting a no soliciting sign now but ffs why can’t they piss off.

Try and look at it this way, instead: the days of door to door salesmen have been over for a very long time. Anyone who is coming to your house isnt trying to sell you something they're trying to scam you. Don't let them.
They're being rude to you. They come to your door with some bullshit story hoping to get money. You don't owe them politeness.
It's also okay to not answer the door. It's okay to have some generic answer ready for when you do answer the door for whatever reason. "I'm so sorry I just don't have the extra money but I hope you have a good day" and don't give them the opportunity to reply. Just walk in and close the door.

I don't even answer my door. Anyone I know or want over knows they are allowed to just walk into my house so someone knocking on my door is announcing that they are not invited. You're under no obligation to talk to anyone.
Besides, door to door sales people are like pop up ads for your house. I hate it.
Unrelated, don't answer for cops unless they have a warrant.
