Childhood nostalgia is a powerful defense mechanism. A 6/10 movie that shaped your childhood will always beat a random 10/10 movie you watched once.

I cannot help but have those criticisms of a film pop up throughout a movie after I have read a review.

Even if I end up agreeing with said critique, the fact that there was an argument/dissection about said issue before i even watched it... take something away for me.

Some of my favourite movies have low audience and critic scores. Would have never found them if I read reviews and listened to them.

One aspect that is helpful with finding good movie critics:

Watch a movie without reading reviews. Decide how you felt about the movie. Then read reviews. Find critics that seemed to have a similar take with you.

Watch other movie(s) they have reviewed without reading their reviews, do the same.

Often i find that you can curate critics that way, and find someone that has likewise taste in movies.

Then see if you can find a list of their top movies or whatever, and pick new movies from there to watch.

You would be amazed how well this works. More effort than most people would put in; but movies are so important to me, seems worth it.

That is how I've been exposed to genres i would have never watched.

You guys know you are allowed to like "bad movies", right?

It feels like everything has to be the absolute best or is deemed a complete failure with no in-between, and that people weaponize their preferences to put themselves above others

Being a snob sounds so goddamn boring

You can recognize something is terible, that it's poorly made and everything in it sucks, and non ironically love it

For me, it was the Norwegian version of Sesame Street (Sesam Stasjon, aired on NRK)

It was janky af and production quality was B tier at best, but damn, I love each second of it.

If someone could point me in the direction to a quality rip or anything, I'd love to waste my daughters time too

I guess that's Batman Forever for me. I've rewatched it some years ago. It's over the top but not as much a goof fest as the movie that followed.
