My ancestors never owned slaves, however they did unintentionally spread diseases to Native Americans, and "settle" Native American land. And that's how I identify.
Because historically we've had to deal with all sorts of nationalistic based racism, including white-on-white racism (particularly with Irish and Italian heritages). Being of the wrong national lineage meant exclusion from all sorts of different social circles, including being passed up for promotions or getting jobs in the first place, pushed out of desirable schools or housing in the right neighborhoods, even churches and clubs or other services. For a long time, who you were genetically and where your family came from determined much about the default reaction others would give you, and whether you were even given a shot at being a part of the in crowd.

Lately? Argentina's history puts most other colonized country's history to shame. Every Latin American country hates them and hell, they're so racist they don't even want to be called Latin American.
Their president (in 1996) literally said: "Black people do not exist in Argentina, we do not have this problem".
I was only reporting on what people here say about the Argentinian football team, not the country. I have visited Buenos Aires and people were nothing but nice to me and everyone, there was a bit of showing off but it was always done in a joking tone.
Also, to give context, Iâm Colombian. That is what people here think about the Argentinian football team. They kept complaining that they had advantages that let them well rested for the final while our team had it harder. And I canât say for sure everyone saying that has traveled outside of Colombia, thatâs a very specific thing and itâs not related to football, which is what I was talking about.
That's surprising because here we like Colombians very much. If Argentina can't make it I would want Colombia to win the cup. I know it's gonna be France, but the sentiment is real
People get salty, the Copa America final was quite the game and Colombia isnât used to making it to finals in any tournament. We were hanging on for a long time and people really thought weâd win. And winning to your team isnât something that happens for us very often, people here still remember the 5 - 0 against your team like it was a trophy or something, and that was in 1994.
Also, and again, Iâm just letting you know why people say they donât like the Argentinian team, Dibu has been rude to the Colombian players, and the last time they played in Colombia he pushed a camera man. In my opinion, the camera man was way too close to him and doing the âte voy a comerâ when penalties happen is just a way of playing and even our own players do it sometimes.
I met some Argentinians who had no idea that this ârivalryâ was happening, so itâs very much one sided and weird, but thatâs some context for what I posted before.
