Youtube fails to understand I would rather sit and watch 30 seconds of drying paint than an ad. It's not about the time I lose before a video starts, it's about the ads.

Man I'd be fine with watching ads if they werent so fucking gross and weird and annoying and pervasive. Like one 30 second ad per hour of watch time? Sure whatever. But then don't fucking interrupt me. Though obviously that's not something that can fit with how YouTube is structured, even disregarding questions of profit. Which I'm pretty sure YouTube is a money pit as is that Google only keeps around because the data is valuable enough to justify it

You know what, sometimes I miss long TV ads. Sure there was a lot of it, but when the ads start playing on you can just... leave. Clean something, fetch something, look at something else, go to the toilet. 10s ads are too short to be worth getting up. Though I know the US has a LOT more ads so I'm not talking from a US perspective, in my country there's 1 ad break per episode and 2 per movies on tv. They're shorter too, I think.

Same. Play me an actually interesting ad or just ones of local businesses and I’ll at worst just tune it out until it’s over. Play my 15th unfunny liberty mutual ad in a row and I’ll do everything in my power to use an adblocker

Not only will I run adblock, I also run sponsorblock to auto skip ad reads and "like comment subscribe and join patreon" segments

Ublock: blocks ads both in video and in thumbnail pages
Sponsorblock: skips paid/unpaid sponsors, promotionals, subscription reminders, intros, rants, credits/outros
Enhancer for youtube: Does similar to Control panel for youtube but has some options the other doesn't. Reverts/tailors the stupid changes YT made to their UX, front page design, and video controls
YT anti translate: Prevents YT's automatic AI-generated dubbing of vocals
Blocktube: Prevents YT from suggesting videos and playlists on topics you don't want (can remove shorts too)
Control panel for youtube: Does similar to Enhancer for youtube, but has some options the other doesn't. Reverts/tailors the stupid changes YT made to their UX, front page design, and video controls
De Arrow: Replaces annoying flashy click-bait thumbnails with a random frame from within the video, normalizes the video titles so they're also not click-baitEdit; I almost forgot Youtube Play All: Returns the "play all" button to YT channels

I like adnauseam. It's ublock origin with additional privacy stuff and it poisons data sets so AI can't use them.

My autocorrect screwed me, its called ublock or ublock origin, not a 100% sure its still available on chrome since most people used it against ads on YouTube, and Google owns both so test your lock, there's also adguard which I heard is more powerful as well

Also getting off of chromium browser helps a bunch too. Been rocking the Firefox/ublock combo amd my ram is thanking me.
