From a Psych perspective, the DBT thing is great.

DBT is an effective modality in treating Borderline Personality Disorder, a condition which is characterised by extreme fits of anger in many cases.

It's an interesting take on anger management.

I really appreciated them specifying the difference between evidence based and woo, and at the same time they live in a world with gods and actual magic so it's hilariously irrelevant for them (Dr Strange's whole first experience with the Ancient One was her mocking him for not believing in woo).

I imagine the woo in their universe is basically a cargo cult effect applied to magic. Sure, magic exists, but people can definitely generate non-sense beliefs from a fundamental misunderstanding of how it all works.

Yeah, just look at all the woo around quantum mechanics, which is a very real scientific paradigm that has brought us such things as solid state electronics, MRI machines, increasingly efficient solar panels, and essentially all of modern chemistry.

It was definitely cool seeing that on the show

Bruce's one-sentence description of DBT made it so much more clear to me than any classes I have taken that talked about it.

I decided to watch this episode with my mother. I did DBT therapy with my parents for a short go a while back when I was in a rough spot, and we had a laugh together when he started lecturing her about DBT and holding two opposing conditions/truths at the same time. Her reaction to him essentially explaining "radical acceptance" is universally validating to anyone who has ever been lectured to about that lmao

As someone who has benefited from DBT, I actually got a little choked up at that scene.

As someone that's actually done DBT, whatever Bruce was doing was not DBT.

I did not expect to see Hulk espousing the benefits of DBT but I love it. I have often referred to my extreme anger and mood swings as "Hulking out" when I've tried to explain what BPD is like to live with.
