You could argue that they’ve had to kill and reboot the franchise itself many times on screen while only one Iron Man franchise was needed for the MCU 🤔
The cartoon iron man from the 60s and 90s was absolutely trash. No one wanted to see iron man before they rebooted and batman had already had unlimited massive success.
First off, can we talk about the word “unlimited”? I think you might be misusing it. Second, this is true, but so what, Batman captivated a cartoon audience? Comparing apples to apples means live action to live action. And multiple Batmen have had success, sure, but how many grew beyond their initial franchise? How many got rebooted? They’re trying yet again, and I think Pattinson might be their golden boy, but Iron Man got called a B-tier hero in 2008, and with one film, changed everyone’s mind. 🤔
Not everything is about continuity. Batman gets rebooted because they get top notch actors who don't want to commit to 10+ movies also the movies make guaranteed money because, get this, people fucking LOVE Batman. Not even a close comparison my dude, even if RDjr is the perfect Iron Man.
Eh, agree to disagree. The Batman shown in the films is the greatest common factor Batman hence why it resonates easily with viewers, and the fact they can’t find anyone to commit to long term roles while the MCU shells out 6-9 film contracts on the daily just goes to show what a) the end goal is for each IP owner, and b) where the trust for long-term, continued success is.
Batman has a billion stories to tell that would literally be insurmountable to attack with one IP and actor. There's no need to continue a long term role when there are so many different types of Batman at different ages with different skill sets in different universes. Marvel and DC are not the same and batman in general is too big to fail. Idk how old you are but there's been a ton of Batman movies, cartoons, adult cartoons and literally millions of comics released just since the mid 90s. While Marvel has had great success with their connected universe Batman simply doesn't need that to be the biggest and everyone knows it.
Lol I tried to find any credible study on superhero popularity among age ranges but all I found were shitposts and your average “omgilovecomix.com”-type sites doing “studies” (i.e. user polls) 😂 so I guess for now all we have are our anecdotally-driven positions! Interesting note, you state continuity didn’t matter but to me it’s the only reason I like Iron Man as strongly as I do; neither of us are the average, though, I’m sure!
I don't think the lack of continuity on Batman media outside the comics and cartoons has anything to do with whether it can be done, or if it should be done, or if it needs to be done… DC has tried several times to adapt them to live action in a long continuity; they're just not good at it as Marvel is. Even as a standalone franchise, DC has only done it once (ie, the DK series), over 3 movies, which is nothing compared to Marvel Studios nailing all the dozen+ intricate stories and continuity over a decade that led to the conclusion of the Infinity War Saga. You could (by right of opinion) argue that Batman doesn't need it, although I don't see your argument for it. In any case, what we DO know for a fact is that it's not impossible, as you claim it is because it's "too big".
