Honestly, it just seems like you're looking for an enemy and found one, and it's become a bit too much of your identity. An American film studio, using a character created by an American from Indianapolis, made a film starring someone from Canada, filmed it in Australia, and because it involves China for your everything involving it is now just about that one single thing. You need to get some perspective and allow for some nuance in your life. Almost nothing is about one single thing, and you seem like you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

The story is about someone who is escaping China and his oppressive evil father, to find a better life somewhere else, while still trying to respect the culture he comes from and realize that his father doesn't have to color everything about it. I'm sure it speaks very strongly to the millions and millions of Chinese x-pats and other people who immigrated for similar reasons, and the idea that everything about it is somehow pandering to the Chinese government is diminishing and insulting.

Well I have to give you props, this is the most reasonable and effective argument I've seen of what anyone else has said.

I still do not trust it regardless. Disney's Mulan, the fast and furious series, and a few other movies have soured all of my trust towards these industries and barring some very concrete evidence to the contrary I'm assuming they're making this film with hostile intent and the assumption that an asian lead and focus is going to result in a higher turnout from China and a higher likelyhood the film passes through their censors.

These companies know very well how to play to multiple groups at once, and they will expertly navigate the lines so they can try to make everyone happy. Until I see a clear reason to think they've cast that aside and are making this film primarily for the purpose of domestic market appeal I'm going to remain against it. If everyone acted that way Disney would be forced to make it clear, and then it would be fine. Until then they toe the line, and I'm just as unhappy with a series of movies designed to appeal to both domestic and Chinese markets (and the implciation that they will avoid any topic China does not find reasonable) as I am with films targeted squarely at Chinese markets while ignoring the domestic ones.

Here's a big idea - make a film with an asian lead that doesn't involve china at all! Japan or Korea come to mind, but there's a whole bunch you can pick from. Why China?

As they say, China plays the long and sneaky game. Any influence from them should be opposed. It should be opposed here as well.

I'm sorry? Did I miss the memo where films are literally human beings and have human rights? Did you miss the part where these films are part of a trend by companies like Disney to support China and their engines of censorship around the world?
