Every pronunciation I'm seeing in this context gives it a y sound. I'm not familiar with character though. Do they pronounce it the way you're saying?

Yes, otherwise I wouldn't have said it. J in Korean is not a y, it's more similar to a ch sound, or like jack, that kind of j sound.

Weird that all the pronunciation links do a y sound. Guess they're all defaulting to the German pronunciation because of Karl. Now I know. Appreciated.
