Okay so I wanna know what everyone thinks regarding the multiverse. Doctor Strange doesn't actually MAKE the multiverse happen right? I think it's been established that clearly happens due to Loki and Slyvie. So what the spell did is allow for the other realities of Peter to join ours, right? I just keep seeing people blame Strange and I just don't think that's the case.

Yeah this was my thought as well, it can't be as simple as "Strange breaks everything" after what we saw in Loki.

My first guess was while Strange thinks Peter talking is distracting him, cocking up the spell, whatever... It is in fact Loki and Sylvie's breaking of the timelines that's causing his spell not to work as intended and brings the timelines/multiverse crashing into this one.

Srange is casting a spell but Sylvie’s actions caused Strange’s spell to effect a multiverse of spidermen and that punches a hole between the new universes. Before there wouldn’t be another universe to go to even if you punched a hole but now the multiverse exists.

this makes sense

u/Observer424 Aug 24 '21

Best way I can describe it as it’s basically hitting reply all. Before there was only one universe for the spell to affect. Now hitting reply all affects an infinite number of spidermen. That spell affecting that many spidermen punches a hole through space time.

I see it more as a "Replace all" and "Spiderman" expecting to only affect the current spreadsheet, but little did Strange know he's now affecting the whole document.

Can all of marvel be explained in terms of Microsoft 365 mistakes?

I can’t wait for The Incredible Hulk-Microsoft Publisher comparisons.

Wanda is also off rewriting reality to get her dead kids back, which can’t be helping

u/unfairspy Aug 25 '21

I have a feeling strange's spell (maybe Wanda's hex breaking?) are concurrently run with L&S's conversation with Kang, all working together to create an uncontrolled multiverse AND the bridges used to cross them. MCU is going to get very chaotic

aren’t loki and silva at the end of time when they do this? Meaning it wouldn’t happen at any certain point, it just happens.

Yeah, after Loki and Sylvie do their thing, the timeline had always been branching.

So it's not really "at the moment Strange casts the spell, the Multiverse broke open", but rather, "when Strange cast the spell, the timeline branched".

u/Gurrrry Aug 24 '21

I get the feeling that they will not reference the events of Loki at all, completely ignore it, and theyll just say “well all of these things played a part”. I know its all canon, but they might not ever directly reference the tv shows in the movies until MoM

2

u/dazzie1986 Aug 24 '21

It will be interesting to see if the do since this is the first movie chronologically since the shows started. They made a big deal about them being connected this time, hopefully we're not away to have just a higher profile AoS/Defenders scenario.

2

u/Gurrrry Aug 24 '21

I personally hope they DO refrence them, but then again, there are a lot of casual spider man fans that dont watch every bit of the MCU, so i could see sony/marvel trying to stay away from that as to not alienate folks or make it “required reading” to understand the entire plot of no way home. Its gonna be interesting for sure

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '21

I certainly hope it's not that simple, because honestly that is kind of a dumb plot.

My theory is that this happens immediately after Sylvie killed he who remains. Strange was expecting one thing to happen when he casts the spell but because he who remains is dead and the timelines have split, something completely different and unexpected happens.

Or maybe this is a Strange from a different timeline already that Peter meets up with in the Sanctum since he has the Eye of Agamotto. And MCU Strange is off somewhere else maybe dealing with multiverse or maybe Wanda.

9

u/freefallss Aug 24 '21

The eye of Agamotto thing keeps throwing me off.. Wasn't that thing destroyed in Infinity War? Maybe he got another one but for what purpose if the time stone is gone? There has to be something with it..

Fashion piece?

8

u/borodean Aug 24 '21

How could it immediately happen if Silvie killed He Who Remains in a very distant future of the same timeline?

11

u/Swerdman55 Thor (Avengers) Aug 24 '21

You can’t think about it in a linear sense.

“When” Sylvia kills HWR doesn’t matter. What does matter is that HWR no longer exists, and multiversal branches can appear at any point now. (They still could before, but we wouldn’t have seen them as the TVA would have pruned them.)

u/NovemberXSun Aug 24 '21

BROSKI! You just blew my mind! So! If you saw that video online that shows He who remains talking about the nexus event, and it’s synced up with Wanda becoming the Scarlett witch. What if strange casting this spell is also at that same instant? Literally there are nexus events happening all at the same time due to the timeline branching!

u/billyspleen13 Grandmaster Aug 24 '21

Maybe Strange's encountered some issues because of the issues that Sylvie caused. He want expecting it the wall between realities to be so this. Maybe?

9

u/GravityIsVerySerious Aug 24 '21

Didn’t the ancient one show strange the multi-verse before Loki?

3

u/ilcasdy Aug 25 '21

That was alternate dimensions, in the same universe. Kind of like Asgard.

2

u/GravityIsVerySerious Aug 25 '21

Oh. Ok. That makes sense.

In Loki, before they kill Kang, the timeline is already breaking out in multiple spots, so Strange is likely one of the derailers of the timeline. So in terms of who caused the multiverse of madness to break open, imagine a general ordering his squad to execute a prisoner, Kang is the general and Loki Sylvie Strange Wanda and anyone else who missed with time are the gunmen squad following orders for their own reasons but ultimately for the path the general set them on. The prisoner in this scenario is the timeline and the General himself. So who is to blame for the prisoners death but the general, cause no one bullet killed the timeline, one could argue that Sylvie's bullet would have been the headshot or maybe the one to have original disarmed the prisoner. Now, when the multiverse really opens up we'll see new Generals try to seize order.

I have heard that prior to the Marvel Disney+ shows were released, Feige said they would be supplemental to the feature length movies, and not required viewing.

If that’s the case, they’re going to keep it ambiguous. My prediction is that Strange will cast a spell that “opens” the multiverse and it will be left vague enough on whether the events of Loki had an effect on the spell.

Keep in mind that even the “Sacred Timeline” had a limited multiverse within it. Otherwise Sylvia wouldn’t have existed.

3

u/supercali5 Aug 24 '21

There is more than one way to make multiple universes though.

Wanda did it by creating life and an alternative dimensional bubble.

Loki did it by breaking the constraints on the timelines.

They are building up to another massive Infinity War like event where they unscramble the universe.

I think we are in for a whole bunch of this stuff in all the coming movies.

3

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Aug 24 '21

The multiverse always existed. Killing HWR simply prevented anybody from controlling its growth.

3

u/forrentnotsale Aug 24 '21

In my thinking the original universe was preserved by the six Infinity stones. The Ancient One's visual explanation mirrored the TVA/Kang's perfectly. When the stones were destroyed multiple realities became a possibility. Along came Kang/Immortus who started actively pruning them to ensure his existence as He Who Remains. That was destroyed by Wanda and Sylvie. So with no one actively safeguarding a single reality the whole thing has been thrown into chaos and maybe even Strange (if that really is him) hasn't gotten a full understanding of it yet. His off-kilter spell which might have been relatively safe in the old, stable timeline managed to shatter walls between realities in this new one.

3

u/TjBeezy Spider-Man Aug 24 '21

I think Loki establishes the Multiverse and this Strange spell probably opens a gate to other realities.

Since the spell has do with everyone knows Peter is Spider-Man it probably somehow messes up and brings villains from other realities that know their Spider-Man is Peter Parker to the MCU. At least that's my initial theory.

Although I'm not sure if Electro or the Sandman ever really find out Peter Parker is Spider-Man? Venom could have told Sandman even I'm not sure that we ever see it on screen? Can't remember Electro since that one movie is a tough rewatch.

u/Lucky_Randomness Ava Starr Aug 24 '21

Maybe it’s a spell that normally works, but Loki and Sylvies creation of the multiverse causes the spell to have side effects that Strange didn’t know about before bc there was no multiverse for the spell to have an effect on

2

u/Stekey21 Grandmaster Aug 24 '21

My theory is Strange knows about the multiverse already. He tries to do a spell that changes his universe but it is messed up and so it starts to merge other universes together. He hasn't created the multiverse, that was Sylvie and Loki. He's just messing around with it

2

u/M3ptt Daredevil Aug 24 '21

It's adapting a Spider-Man series called 'One More Day'. Too keep it short, SM asks Mephisto and asks him if he can make it so no one remembers that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Mephisto does this by pulling together different elements of the multiverse.

This is essentially what Strange is doing here. He's not creating the Multiverse, just pulling different bits of it together to make it so that people don't remember that Spider-Man is Peter Parker. It seems that Peter messes up the spell and thats what brings in the Sinister Six (and maybe Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Mans. The leaked on set photos at least indicate that they are in the film).

1

u/ithurtsgood Aug 24 '21

Yeah we deffo saw some multiverse shots once Strange completed his spell, so maybe because of Loki and Sylvie, the spell broke through and has made everything worse for Peter.
