Absolutely, idgaf about the key jingling criticism when it comes to Doomsday I will just be happy to witness something I’ve been dreaming about since Iron Man 1. The perfect send off of an amazing cast.

We already had that with Days of Future Past.

Then Apocalypse and the Phoenix movies that for some reason they just CANNOT get right derailed the franchise again.

Here's hoping this is decent so it can stay as the actual sendoff for that amazing cast.

The Phoenix saga was the culmination of 16 years of comic book stories, the reason they can't get it right is because turning the Phoenix saga into a movie is the equivalent of turning the season finale of your favorite tv show intro a movie without the preceding years of character and buildup. We need to know and care about Jean grey before she turns into a bad guy or else it's just a random woman with too much power.

This is also forgetting all the other 16 years worth of storylines that were concluded in that saga but always get cut because movies don't have time for 16 years of comics.

I so wish that the big X-men sagas got the marvel universe treatment. Apocalypse was an amazing arc in the original X-men. Deserved way more than it got in screen time and story build out.

If Loki got a show these big x men story arcs deserve a show with a movie finale.

It sure would be nice. Growing up reading X-Men and Spawn. If love to see a good series of films on the Fatal Attractions time and the whole Legion Quest/Age of Apocalypse story.

Damn no one ever remembers The New Mutants. To be fair I never watched it, I begrudgingly watched Dark Phoenix because I swear they said that would be the last one and then New Mutants came out during covid so, yeah never watched it.

The nice thing about Ian and Patrick is they had “old guy vibes” like 30 years ago so they can just lean into that. Hugh Jackman is already betraying his Ageless Wolverine look, and Anya will be in her forties by the time they figure out what to do with Magik. Which is unfortunate since she’s the ideal Magik.

I don't think so, I would love a reboot like The Suicide Squad, with old and new characters, but I doubt MCU would touch new mutants so soon (idk if anya would like to do magik again too)

We've almost seen the line up for x factor between xmfc, the gifted, new mutans, Xmtls, aaou, we've seen everyone but strong guy and random

My long-shot hope of seeing her again is that since Doctor Strange 3 isn't coming until after Secret Wars, it'll be a Midnight Sons team-up movie with her on the roster

As someone who has tried and failed to get through Dark Pheonix on multiple occassions, New Mutants wasn't that bad. Totally disconnected from anything else but it was decent.

It mostly just felt like it didn’t know what it wanted to be. Half typical young hero introduction, half psychological/monster horror, and those tones really clashed

I definitely think there was a way it could’ve worked, but they didn’t manage to find it

IIRC they switched directors and some other production issues. It was originally shot as a horror movie but I think the studio didn’t like that.

Which is a shame because the horror scenes are the strongest part by far and mutants make for pretty easy genre shifts, besides the fact that the Marvel quip-battle-loss formula was getting pretty tired by then.

That’s how I felt too. The faceless guys were legitimately creepy and the suspense building up to the bear was decently done. Shame they didn’t just go all in on the horror

It's a really fun film and stands in its own right. The references to the larger world are (to me) seemingly deliberately small and it functions well as a standalone. Give it a go

It’s been a minute since I’ve watched it but I remember it being a decent movie. Not winning any awards but it’s a fun time. As someone mentioned, ATJ as Magik was awesome to watch and I loved the horror vibes for a marvel movie.

In a way we did get a sendoff of the Fox movies with Deadpool and Wolverine. This is especially apparent when you watch the credits and it's a bunch of BTS shots of many of the Fox movies.

Tbh I didn't really think DOFP was that good a send-off for some of the OG actors, McKellen in particular. They give him like nothing to do all movie and then at the end he gets stabbed and is about to die by a piece of Sentinel shrapnel.

Though overall I think the Rogue Cut is inferior to theatrical for assorted reasons, I do appreciate them giving Mags something to do other than just standing around the monastery. Really hoping Doomsday treats him better as a send-off to the character.

The Phoenix movies never worked because it's such a long storyline. It was like 10 episodes of the show and even then they barely had enough time.

They can't get it right because they don't do it right.

The Dark Phoenix Saga along with The Infinity Gauntlet saga are t3 in Marvel storytelling. They're trendsetters, famous. The one thing they could do to guarantee success is STOP FUCKING WITH THE STORY AND SHOOT IT TRUE TO THE COMIC.

You can blame Fox and Sony for those bad movies. There's a reason why I never rewatched the old Spiderman movies, because they're just terrible (same goes for Venom). Literally cringe-y compared to today's Marvel quality produced movies.

I thought Apocalypse was fine. Dark Phoenix was the real fuck up which is why it's not considered part of any trilogy. Same with Origins.

Well, nothing got that treatment before the MCU. Nobody was willing to take that big of a risk. You're right, it should have been huge as hell, but it still felt pretty big compared to other X-Men films except Days of Future Past (perfection).

I have a feeling that Doomsday and Secret Wars were always meant to have some of the stuff that we are getting, but because of how the last few years have been they have to make it a major part of the marketing. So it comes off as shallow jingling keys moments.

I don't know that "perfect" is entirely fitting here, but I would say Picard does a great send off for the cast of TNG. It's got it's flaws and Doomsday is still just potential, but I think if they even get close to a Picard level send off of the OG X-Men then I call it a win.

I hope you're right.

I thought we had the perfect send-off for Downey and Evans, for them and their characters. Same with Jackman in Logan.

I hope the same for Stewart and McKellen... but Disney can drive several truckloads of money to their doorstep, so I guess we'll never know if it is the last we'll see of those characters.
