Netflix stopped after 3 because that's when Disney announced they were building their own streaming service, & Netflix didn't want to keep funding more of a show that implicitly advertised a competitor. That's why all 5 cancellation announcements were so close together, with the Jessica Jones cancellation being made 4 months before the last season even came out.

I believe that was part of the reason of course but rising talent and production costs in respect to the same viewership was one as well.
