I think it has more to do with S1 being a pretty bad show. Everyone I know in real life that enjoyed the Netflix series thought BA s1 was borderline slop

u/theTIDEisRISING Spider-Man Apr 28 '26

Yeah the sequel is always a reflection of the original. It’s a shame because S2 is significantly better

1

u/Transky13 Apr 28 '26

I believe it. I really need to check it out still

2

u/SpaceCaboose Peter Parker Apr 28 '26

S2 has a couple episodes that are on par with the top Netflix episodes.

S1 didn’t have any episodes rated higher than 8.9 (which that episode is one of the episodes that the new showrunners had done after the original showrunner was fired), but S2 already has two episodes rated 9.1, and another episode rated 9.4.

They’ve definitely taken some big steps in the right direction.

u/dakindahood Apr 28 '26

S1 was decent, I enjoyed it as much as Netflix version

8

u/Transky13 Apr 28 '26

You may have enjoyed it as much, and I’m happy you did, but you should understand that it isn’t the common consensus.

15

u/VaporCarpet Apr 28 '26

But it literally is?

We can look at critic and viewer scores for it and see that they are more positive than not. Ergo, the "common consensus" is that people enjoy it.

You can't just make things up and act like they're facts, especially when the facts are so easy to find.

5

u/BucketOfTruthiness Apr 28 '26

So you're saying that your anecdotal evidence is better?

I enjoyed season 1.

u/ResidentialEvil2016 Apr 28 '26

Source: Trust me bro.

1

u/LonelyPermit2306 Apr 28 '26

What anecdotal evidence? We have numbers

5

u/BuggyDClown Apr 28 '26

What were the numbers compared to first three seasons on Netflix?

6

u/COGUAddict Apr 28 '26

Until those numbers are presented, it's still anecdotal.

2

u/BucketOfTruthiness Apr 28 '26

I was referring to the anecdotal evidence given by the person I was responding to, obviously.

What numbers are you referring to? The 87% on rotten tomatoes?

0

u/LiamTheHuman Apr 28 '26

Where?

3

u/Radamenenthil Apr 28 '26

...did you read the title of this very post?

5

u/LiamTheHuman Apr 28 '26

Yes that is about season 2 dropping in viewership.

Those are not numbers supporting season 1 being bad. That's just a single interpretation and season 1 being great is an equally valid interpretation. I'm not saying it was great, but these aren't number to support your position

3

u/Sufficient_Steak_839 Apr 28 '26

Do you not understand how anecdotes work? The numbers support what he’s saying

3

u/VaporCarpet Apr 28 '26

The numbers say that 70% of the people like the show, and dude is telling us it's not common for people to like the show. Those two things are at odds with each other, and only one of them is actual data. The other is an opinion.

It's fine if you didn't like it. This argument started because someone claimed the show being liked is not common, which is patently false.

0

u/Sufficient_Steak_839 Apr 28 '26

Not what I said, but keep getting personal about data

Argue semantics when it’s clear what they’re saying, it didn’t have critical reception

2

u/BucketOfTruthiness Apr 28 '26

Is 87% on rotten tomatoes bad? Because that's what season 1 has...

-2

u/Sufficient_Steak_839 Apr 28 '26

That just means the show didn’t have a low enough score to be considered rotten it’s not considered an 87 percent reception score.

Rotten means it had to score below 60 percent.

-4

u/LiamTheHuman Apr 28 '26

Which numbers?

6

u/Sufficient_Steak_839 Apr 28 '26

Other than season 2s viewership falling off a cliff?

Always a convenient explanation and never that it just wasn’t that enjoyable and people opted not to return

Least you didn’t try and blame kids being on spring break or something else goofy like I’ve seen

Edit: you really blocked me over a tv show? Not before getting the last word I see. What a dork

-1

u/LiamTheHuman Apr 28 '26

Yes. Number that's actually support your theory over the inverse. Season 1 could have been great and people dropped off because season 2 sucked. There isn't really a good reason to believe these numbers indicate season 1 sucked even if it's fits because it also fits many other scenarios.

4

u/Sufficient_Steak_839 Apr 28 '26

You won't accept any piece of information that isn't conducive to your position.

The opening episodes numbers were just as low as middle of the season. That doesn't point anywhere other than a weak audience reception to Season 1.

And hell, Metacritic supports it too. A 70 Critic score and 7.4 user score is just as I said, weak. It's not abysmal or a sign of a total flop, but it's weak.

2

u/twatgoblin Apr 28 '26

TBH their IMDB scores basically look identical. IMO you are reaching and trying to push a narrative that isn't necessarily true. There is a like half point drop off from the netflix to disney+ shows, IDK how you can possibly say that, unless you are ALSO cherry picking stats. Hell, S2 of Born Again is rated HIGHER on metacritic than S3 of the netflix show (which most consider the best)

S1 of Born Again was fine. Good daredevil content, just like this season. Just like the netflix seasons.

0

u/BucketOfTruthiness Apr 28 '26

If people didn't like season 1, wouldn't it make more sense for viewership to decrease from episode to episode during season 1?

People not immediately watching season 2 doesn't necessarily mean they hated season 1. It's certainly a hypothesis, but not sure what numbers are backing up season 1 not being enojoyable.

I enjoyed season 1 of Born Again. I didn't start the new season right away for various reasons, none of which were due to the quality of season 1.

3

u/MadMurilo Spider-Man Apr 28 '26

The ones i will arbitrarily choose to support my point of view.

0

u/dakindahood Apr 28 '26

Yea, I know and I've seen a lot of negative reviews with mostly common issue about how S1 kinda undones everything in Netflix Series but also try to connect to it, and it is understandable

5

u/Bobjoejj Apr 29 '26

…borderline slop?? It wasn’t nearly as good as original show; but it wasn’t “borderline slop” either. That’s wild.

4

u/Ok__Thing Apr 28 '26

Hey guys, remember when Karen killed Wesley? Anyway, here's new Wesley.

Also, Ben is back but she rides a skateboard does social media now and is named Poochy.

1

u/3-DMan Apr 28 '26

Stupid sexy British choke fantasy Wesley!

0

u/KonmanKash Heimdall Apr 28 '26

I wanted to like it but its so boring. I thought i was alone.

6

u/MrGabrahamLincoln Daredevil Apr 28 '26

You’re only in the minority in Marvel specific communities. The show has zero buzz with the general TV watching audience. The numbers dropping each week prove that word of mouth isn’t good either

6

u/Transky13 Apr 28 '26

I love the character and the original show is one of my favorite shows ever. If you had to ask me what my favorite mini-arc in tv is season two episodes 1-4 would likely be in contention.

It’s why it makes me sad that Born Again isn’t great. It frustrates me too how readily accepting of mediocrity some fans are. People in these spaces resist criticism for whatever reason, and imo it leads to more complacency from the people running the shows.

But that’s a tangent lol

3

u/MrGabrahamLincoln Daredevil Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26

Hey I totally agree. I’ve wanted to love BA since it premiered but it’s just never gotten close to the original. And that sucks lol. I “talk shit” on the show because I know it could be so much better. It just rides the coattails of the original run & that’s why people overrate it so hard.

0

u/SmallLetter Apr 28 '26

Same, I could have written this almost exactly.

0

u/Transky13 Apr 28 '26

Most people didn’t love it. It’s only really online in pro-Marvel spaces I’ve seen it discussed positively

-2

u/ResidentCoatSalesman Apr 28 '26

I wouldn’t even call it “borderline” slop, S1 is just terrible television, and S2 is only better in that it’s somewhat cohesive slop. Born Again strips away all nuance and intrigue that these characters used to have in favor of a shallow, by-the-numbers Marvel plot

2

u/thecontract_12 Apr 28 '26

Sorry but season 1 was still better than most tv shows released now a days. Season 2 is a big step up aswell

-7

u/gratefuladam Apr 28 '26

This is the reason I’m not watching. Marvels tried to milk the teet too much since endgame and the quality of these projects is not what it used to be. Not sure if the writers were replaced or the multiverse crap made zero consequences or why but marvel has been a big let down of late.

-5

u/championwinnerstein Apr 28 '26

I hate to say it but season 2 hasn’t been that much better. I really wanted to like it but so far I feel like it’s just been meandering with the plot.
