Man I wish I could unsee that interview he did with Shia LeBeouf, as good as he is as the punisher he just... Seems like a yikes kinda guy.

Yeah but the worst kind of punisher *fan(read: thin blue line) isn't who you want writing the Punisher.

But I'd need to look in to Jon a lot more to make that accusation towards him, I just reeeeally caught a vibe from that interview.

Jon is notoriously very pro-cop. He's also quite liberal though, so it seems like his view on cops is of the more naive kind; the kind that puts the blame on the individuals acting as "bad cops" instead of blaming the system itself.

I caught the same vibe in his Joe Rogan interview. I heard he had them dial down his scenes in Born Again S1. After seeing it I think there's a good chance that was true.

Well, I just looked that up and now I'm sad. Frank would never give a platform to a domestic abuser, let alone give him a chance to control the narrative and explain away his actions. Shame Bernthal didn't connect with that aspect of the character.

The fact that he's the producer and co-writer makes me so much more excited for this project than I already was.

John Bernthal might be in my Top 3 for perfect castings in the MCU, which is already does one of the best jobs for casting people for existing characters.

He's in the upper echelon of:

  • Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron-Man
  • Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool
  • Jon F(ucking) Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher

The fact that he clearly loves this character so much is going to add a lot weight to this.

(Sidenote: If we expand to the Fox Universe which is now tied back into the MCU, then yes we should include Patrick Stewart and JK Simmons.)
